Is it really the droplets that are being programmed though? It looked more like programmed droplet manipulation via electrical stimulation.
Are you programming the robot, or are you programming its joints?
In the case of my Lego MindStorms robot, I programmed the hands, arms, legs, head, and chest. Damn thing was super limited, even after using custom compilers to code the RCX units... I thing the IR transmission rate was something like 5 cps? And of course, you have to avoid transmitting at the same time as another RCX, so TDMA. I lost interest pretty quickly when I got my hands on real microcontrollers.

There's a real microcontroller inside. Just load your own OS on instead of the vastly limited default.

Ah yes, something every expiring teenager would know how to do...

Instructions are online. They should be used to the idea of looking things up by now.

Back in the 90's? Tell me where so I can visit myself with my time machine with this data!

Yes.
Hmm... I remember trying to get nqc working but failed, can't remember why though.
Oh well, whatever.

The Forth stuff worked, and that was what involved an actual new runtime on the RCX. By contrast, nqc used the default runtime. (How do I remember these things?! How…)

Well now that you've warmed up Trivia Cache 2....
Other projects I built using the MindStorms system included a tile grout scrubber and a cradle rocker. There were also plans on an automated window blinds control system (with timer!), a run-away alarm clock tank, and a recordable control module add-on for my R.A.D. Robot toy (may it rest in peace).

I built things like punch-card readers, burglar alarms and plotters. Good fun…

New (recent...April 2018) trailer for 2001!
And reactions to the new trailer from a couple of guys who haven't seen the movie yet ...
@blakeyrat will enjoy this. Or not.

@boomzilla Yeah, so this just happened.

A woodworking YouTuber that I watch regularly and love the style of does a project for charity every year. This year it is for a camp that works with kids who stutter:
He tells in the beginning of the video that the reason he is doing that charity is because he has a stutter and for the first time in all of his videos have watched it comes out for a brief moment. Seems he does videos partially because it is a medium he can communicate in and obscure his stutter while still speaking.
Now it makes sense why he speaks so deliberately in his videos. I am a sucker for realness in media. I like him even more now.

I miss David Ogden Stiers.

I'm amazed, I didn't think anyone would be able to sustain a power output anywhere near that even for a short time.

@polygeekery Is a can of surströmming supposed to be bulging? Normally, a bulging can is an indication of botulism. Never eat anything from a bulging can; don't even open it. (And yes, I'd include surströmming, even if it's supposed to be bulging.)
Just opening a bulging can is potentially deadly, much less eating the contents. Botulinum toxin is so deadly that inhaling 700 – 1100 ng (yes, with an n, 700 nanograms, 0.7 μg, 7E-7 grams) can kill an adult.
A bulging or swelling can indicates that the contents have been infected with Clostridium botulinum, a bacteria that is responsible for botulism. Bulging or swelling cans should never be opened, sniffed or consumed. Commercial and homemade products are all at risk for botulism, as are jarred products.
Unopened Cans
Bulging cans should not be opened or pierced. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advise that you place the can in a plastic zipper bag, then seal and wrap another plastic bag around it. Tape the bags tightly and place in a non-recycling trash receptacle. Make sure the receptacle is out of reach of children or pets and that other trash does not pose a risk for piercing the can.

Yep. As gross as that is.
-
@polygeekery I'd ask how you're supposed to tell the difference between a can that's ok and one that's gone bad, but the answer is obvious.
-
@hardwaregeek considering that the Swedes open the cans outside under buckets of water and far away from other people I don't think there is a difference.
-
@polygeekery Exactly.

His stutter is pretty bad. I can only imagine how cathartic it must be for him to be able to do video where he can edit as much as he wants in order to convey his thoughts without his stutter coming through. To be able to just be, for lack of a better word, normal. In the interview he truly looks pained as he attempts to convey his thoughts but the stutter makes it so difficult for him.
Now, for something more happy: He turns a Telstra World Cup soccer ball from wood.

Paging @Mikael_Svahnberg:
Ok, so they did everything wrong which you could do wrong:
- You're supposed to open it outside
- You better open it underwater, preferably in a river (not just a little stream).
- The neighbors need to be warned that you're opening one of those, or his next video might well show that 10 minutes later somebody came over with gas leak detectors.
-
I sure hope they didn't leave any plastic drinking straws on board.
