@remi Why Python?
-
@remi And why not Java?
-
-
Coffee (Java) has no relationship to this since it wasn't known in the Antiquity.
I almost added that Oracle should also only use mercurial as source control system, but while Apollo is associated with Mercury (the planet), Mercury (the god) is actually Hermes, not Apollo (who kept the same name in Rome, AFAIK).
-
@Zecc because Oracle didn’t originate that, they bought it.

Everything written by Oracle should be either in Delphi or Python.
Nah, everything in Oracle is in Oracle. The bug tracker. Source control. You name it.

Do they have to licence it from themselves? Do they get a discount?

I’m sure they do. Some form of Hollywood accounting to ensure they’re dirt poor and only make profits on the Caymans.
Do they get a discount?
That’d defeat the purpose.
-
@topspin I was thinking given how... interesting... the licensing is, giving themselves a discount would explain a few things.
But of course, Larry needs another yacht.

With the rise of the "self checkout meta" making us effectively non-financially-renumerated employees of stores, are we subject to the "employees must wash hands before returning to work" mandate?
-
@izzion while I don’t quite understand the multi-tier snark of your post, here in the civilized world everybody does that, to the point of being quite surprised to see signs pointing out the obvious.
-
@topspin said in Random thought of the day:

I learned people stand up to wipe. I contend the surprise is a symptom of naivety.

I would imagine so. The part that really makes me feel like an employee is that you get bossed around more if you checkout your own items than if you go to a cashier line. If they got their act together and left me alone, I might be more inclined to use the self-checkout.

I just noticed on the label that my shaving foam contains menthol and caffeine.
Caffeine?
-
@da-Doctah Apparently it's a way to reduce the redness after shaving.
I am a proper fucking neckbeard, I have no idea, but a quick internet research tells me this is apparently the claimed reason.
-

It's a way to wake up the menthol. What a silly question.
Related: I just finished a tube of shaving cream that turns warm on its own. It does that as advertised on the label. However, it was the worst shaving cream I have ever used. Soap and water is better.

The fact that it looks like a bottle of something you'd put in your car is I'm sure a coincidence.

I don't want my car to gradually lose its hair.

@DogsB "And does Mr Ellison require another yacht?"
-
Thought: If the bootloader can be unlocked, and the bootloader is (apparently?) what's responsible for providing verification of integrity (somehow?) then why hasn't there been anyone brave enough to recompile the bootloader to replace the unlocked bootloader and re-attest itself?
-
@Arantor said in Random thought of the day:
@DogsB "And does Mr Ellison require another yacht?"
I think this train of thought needs more input from someone versed in corporate accounting. I worked for a company that had to purchase hardware from the German office to test it. I wonder if it was written off against tax. I can do something similiar as a contractor in Ireland.
-
@DogsB it's mostly facetious on my part, because this is a thing:

If you drop a remote on the floor, why do the batteries always fly out?

You know how some planes have ejection seats, right? Same concept.

@topspin Do you prefer the mobile version?

I wonder what's the point of a super yatch for these guys after the novelty is over
-
@sockpuppet7 That's why he used to race them in the America's Cup. It's not enough to have a yacht if you're not trying to out-yacht someone else, I guess.
-
@topspin said in Random thought of the day:

IANAP, but, I figure it is because the kinetic energy finds the easiest way out, which is through the battery cover.
-
@jinpa that and the batteries are also usually spring-loaded.

They also constitute a considerable part of the remote control's mass so there's a lot of kinetic energy that can be discarded by getting rid of them.

Must be a knee-jerk reaction, I doubt the remote has the time to consciously make that decision.

Millennials watching classic comedy, like "Who's on First?", the stateroom scene from "A Night at the Opera", or "The Music Box":
"I don't get it. Is this supposed to be funny? Not one person farts, not one person gets kicked in the balls, not one person makes insulting remarks about how the other person's mother is promiscuous. How can they even call it comedy?"

...so, does this explain why the Time Stone is green?

If you ask someone to read something, but then continue to talk (thus preventing them from reading it), does this say something about you?

No. If you don't know, you don't know.

On older phones, the back covers and batteries were removable, and would sometimes pop out when dropped. Compare with modern sealed phones:
