You're not sufficiently nerdy as to have allocated memory bandwidth to remembering the crappy ones?
Heck. I'm a Pokemans strimmer, and I can't keep track of which Pokemon are which types. Even though I do the post-game PvE battle challenges where you wind up encountering a pretty wide variety of things. Yay having Bulbapedia open while I battle.

@FrostCat No *; I was disappointed they didn't use the opportunity to make the graveyard a haven for ghost-type pokemon.
- is it just me or is this getting used for smaller and smaller misses?
-
@Yamikuronue Since we don't have the and also a certain nameless vulpine got upset about said , probably.

We need a gif/emoticon of a model airplane flying by, I guess.

I'm finding the Eevee's to be a pain, I managed to get a gaggle of them with three different move sets, and thought "Oh hey, this must be tied to what they evolve into" but nope, both times I tried I got the same one. Really hoping it isn't random.
Also, don't know if this was intentional, but the Hitmonlees all over Seattle was funny, but there should be Porygons all over Redmond.

Far as we can tell, yeah, it's random.
-
@Yamikuronue Then I guess it's back to smushing Eevee's and Vaporeons into candy

That sounds needlessly cruel and destructive...

Has anyone committed enough science to know which is more effective for grinding xp: evolving 5 weedle -> kakuna, or evolving 1 weedle -> kakuna -> beedrill?
-
@izzion said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

You can do that?
FFS I ran out of balls, how do you all get so many pokemon that you can "smash" them into candy for funzies?
I guess I just live in badlands or something...
-
@Tsaukpaetra Go find the nearest pokestop where you won't get arrested for perving. Preferably where 2-4 are in close proximity. Camp there for like an hour. Spin each stop every 6 minutes. Marvel in all the Pokeballs, Razz Berries, and other items.
Also, use Razz berries for anything yellow or orange/red circled, rather than playing the Pokeball catch lottery unassisted. And don't flick with your thumb from a weird angle so it curves into the next phone over.

Cool--maybe it'll get to the point where you won't mind getting one, if we still had the badges!
-

This one. I believe the XP bonus is a static 500xp, no matter what you evolve. Also, pop a lucky egg first, it applies to all XP gains, including evolving XP.

I guess I just live in badlands or something....find some place nearbyish that's got lots of pokestops? I mean, surely you can find something similar to the stripmall I mentioned the other day that has 9 of them.
Plus, people are saying--maybe you already knew this--that you can reuse them after just a few minutes and get more balls.

Snort. That'd be pretty funny if that actually happened.

Those are sparingly placed where I am, maybe I'll take a drive some time...

You know, I've never been able to use Razz berries. I get the feeling you're supposed to do it from your bag or something, but touching it doesn't do anything so

Bonus points if it smacks that pokemon on the face and captures it XD

I've never been able to use Razz berries
Method:
- Be on the pokemon catch screen
- Tap the bag in the right side
- Tap the razz berry
- Tap the berry again, while it's floating in front of the pokemon
- Profit (for 1 ball throw, it will be easier to catch)
-
@Yamikuronue said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:
Tap the bag in the right side
Yes, that's the part that doesn't do anything. No sound, but there is an animation droplet-effect thing.
Edit: Side note: Watching a pokemon jump around in front of me for hours is somewhat entertaining. For some reason it seems the only run once you attempt to act. Since I can't act, they just sit there.
Abra's "jump" is cute as all get out!
-
@Tsaukpaetra meanwhile, Abra just hanging out...

Not sure if I like the game.
Me too. Not much in the way of teamwork required. The only team aspect at all seems to be gyms. Ingress requires teamwork to put up BAFs over (or through!) cities or to build a high level farm for high level loot.
For a location-based game it really doesn't require much in the way of movement. People just stand around the same pokestop spinning and capturing. All night. Ingress at least has the four hour portal burnout period.
Eggs require a huge distance to be covered to hatch but the game is extremely hostile to pokedriving (not a bad thing) and pokecycling (annoying). Pokemon appear after you've moved out of range, and the time it takes to tap and spin a pokestop is longer than you're in range at a decent pace. You can't pre-tap and then just spin in range, you have to wait to be in range to tap.
Overall I'm unimpressed but I still play occasionally, mostly while walking places or waiting for my wife or whatever, after all, I gotta catch them all or something.

At a minimum, it's getting me out of my chair. I've logged more than 30km since I started playing the game O_o

Wait for the stop to do the spinning become-a-circle thing, tap, spin. All while remaining in range.

I dunno, I seem to get better pokemon hunting them down on foot than waiting at a lure pod.

I can't wait for the new social experiment "What could happen to your kid playing Pokemon Go [Gone Wrong] [KIDNAPPED]" video complete with the "Are you outta your moind?" hyperbole

Meantime, over in England, which you’d think has bigger problems to freak out about, the authorities are warning that the app could be used by predators to lure children to their doom. Mind you, the app isn’t even available there yet.

If it didn't drain the battery so much, I would be able to hatch all the eggs on my ride to Portland this weekend :/
-
I don't play, but someone in our school's subreddit (we have a pretty active one, we're a bunch of nerds) posted a PSA asking people not to cross the street while staring at their phones. Apparently someone got hit by a bike because they were playing.
-
It was my understanding that the velocity limit for egg hatching was low enough that even biking tends to break it?
-
Depends on why you didn't like and what your typical goal for a Pokegame is. Nothing has really changed in the story pacing. Other than the gen 6 addition of fairy, which breaks the hell out of the elite 4. But the post game stuff (shiny hunting, competitive breeding/battling, dex completion) all has all the gen 6 QOL improvements that make it much less grind (or hacks) required.

Funny how the loading screen features just such a situation, and not to do it...
-
@izzion some guy figured out that you can put your phone on a turntable or hang it from a ceiling fan and hatch them that way, though.
-
@anotherusername I want to mythbust that, because everything I've seen suggests it uses GPS data to see how far you went, and that won't update if you put it on a turntable.
My mythbusting queue for this weekend:
- Can you reclaim a pokeball by tapping it after you miss (signs point to no)
- Does tapping the compass make you face the pokemon you have in your sights ( no, it really doesn't, but nobody on facebook believes me)
-
@anotherusername said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

Yeah, essentially the "walk to hatch" function isn't based on speed or location at all: It's actually using the pedometer functions to count your steps, which is why bikes/cars/etc don't work.
-
@Tsaukpaetra but... I have seen it go up when I'm in a car.
-
@Yamikuronue said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

That would be amazing! And surprisingly realistic if it were true. I mean, why on EARTH is a pokeball ruined if you miss? Do they get damaged so much from dropping on the ground that they can't be used anymore? I would understand if it sucked in a pokemon and they broke out, because that would physically break the ball, but in this case, merely dropping a case of them would render them effectively useless...
-

Bumpy ride?
-
@Tsaukpaetra Sadly, I'm 95% sure it's false. I plan to do a more scientific test this weekend, so I could be wrong, but my experience has been that it doesn't work. It does something, but your pokeball count doens't go up
-

It was a video, and based on the phone's screen, it thought it was walking in a small circle. Presumably it's using the inertia sensors for fine measurement where GPS isn't precise enough.
Granted, after 5 minutes it said he'd walked something like 0.15 km, so it's not exactly fast, but still... it'd add up after a while, I guess.
-
@anotherusername Maybe it'll do both?
-
@Yamikuronue perhaps. Feel free to test it; I don't play, or I might test it myself.

Which I could really use sometimes. Such a pain how the 4k steps resets right at midnight every day, no rollover if you go 10k steps on a given day or whatever. Makes shiny hatching a real bitch...
