Get a better fucking phone.
A post, again?
Every time someone mentions mobile I am obligated to remind them how fucked up their phone is.
I will also mock their tiny editor screen estate, if it makes you feel better.

Nope! Traditional 5.5" phone here!
Do you use a magnifying glass?
Only the built-in lenses. I've been told I should get myself tested to receive external implements though.

Don’t forget that he’s using the “keyboard for ants”. No idea how that works with a normal screen size.

Yeah, one of these days my request to get them to stop analyzing the entire text input for every key press will get some attention, but I'm not holding my breath...

And by 5.5" you obviously mean width, not diagonal.
Get lost with your size shaming.
It's an Oppo Find7a, if it's five inches wide I must be bigger than I thought...

WTF of my day: So, I've got the Xbox Gamepass Ultimate and I noticed that it now includes Kingdom Hearts III for the XBox. I had been quite intrigued by the screens I had seen and the reviews also seemed to be okay.
So I installed it.
Jesus Tapdancing Christ on a Pogostick!
This has to be one of the most inpenetrable franchises on Earth. Seriously. There were absolutely NO fucks given in the "Explain to the newbie what's going on!" department.
First you immediately get an intro which consists of the whole development team being introduced by name, while two blokes play kind-of-chess interspersed with seemingly happenings from the previous games. However, there's no exposition, explanation or voice for any of this. However, you can skip this intro.
Then comes the normal "Start a new game" screen.
After that you get the two blokes playing kind-of-chess again, this time with voice. And flashbacks. But this does not explain anything at all. Except that there has been some kind of conflict (well, duh!).
After that it launches into Japanese dubstep video (seriously!). No fucking clue what's that about.Then you get to steer your character aaaand ... get to decide your character class and focus? Maybe? I mean, I'm presented with three pictures (again depicting something from previous games?) which are labelled "Vitality", "Magic" and "Balance". After that I get to choose "Warrior", "Guardian" or "Magician".
Yeah, that's all of the explanation you get. A quick combat tutorial follows and then ... you're told that you lost your powers, failed your exams and thus need to earn them back. Okay, makes sense but why not make the intro about that?
Fucking hell. Good thing I didn't actually buy this.
-
Fucking hell why doesn’t it introduce two characters when I start the game once?!

@levicki Is the answer "Safari sucks"?

Minor WTF of my day: So, I have this Flutter Form which contains multiple DropDowns which depend on each other - so if you choose option A in the "parent" DropDown you get options 1, 2 and 3 in the child DropDown.
Until recently the values of those DropDowns were strings and everything worked fine. If the parent DropDown had a value selected I then set the child's value to
null
and also rebuilt the list of possible child values.In order to optimize the number of database accesses down the road, I refactored the whole thing to use instances of custom classes instead. Which made the whole thing blow up. But only if I switched the selection of the parent class while also having a value for the child (i.e. parent null => A, then child null => 1 and then parent A => B)
The complaint? The selected value for the child was not contained in the list of possible values. But I set the value to
null
and rebuilt the list?Yeah. Turns out that for some reason, switching from
DropDownButtonFormField
toDropDownButtonFormField<MyClass>
renders the value field completely useless. You can set it all you want but there will be no warnings, errors or anything. It will simply silently swallow any changes.Instead, all the values and the state in general lives in the
Form
which wraps the whole thing. So I simply need to get a reference to theFormField
and then set the value to null using that reference.I mean, it makes sense to store the values in the
Form
but would it have killed them to then make thevalue
field non-writable or something? Especially since the code works for strings...
-
I gave Bing another chance. It did not pass.
Seriously, what the fuck? I know Software is hard™, but how do giant companies keep screwing up basic features of their major products?

You do realize it's the same company responsible for Windows 10, right?

My plans to integrate better optics should (in theory) obviate that eventuality.

How doesn't it? Doesn't answering questions with a rhetorical question oblique the former with participles?

Same. And for me it never worked decently in the first place. Especially not cross-platform (I'm on Windows/Mac/Android).
-
@levicki said in WTF Bites:
Sadly, I see no alternatives apart from Safari and keychain, but that doesn't work on Winblows.
KeepassXC.

@loopback0 Mac is not a problem, Mac is a solution to all Windows problems.

@levicki Yes, that's why I suggested it.

@levicki said in WTF Bites:
It did work very well before it got converted into web extension and rebranded to Kee
I mean, who forced you to use a web extension "rebranded" as Kee? As far as I know, it's still very much a .Net application that's very not a web extension...
So....

And how else would you integrate KeePass with a browser so you don't have to copy/paste shit from it manually?
I'm paranoid enough that I wouldn't consider the thought to begin with, duh.
Must. Not. Let. Convenience. Trump. Security!
-
@levicki Is the answer "Safari sucks"?
I don't know.. probably?
I tried setting my viewport to that size and...
It still works?
Though now I'm definitely experiencing jellypotato in this mode.
The answer seems to remain: Mobile is and always will suck.
Unless you convince your device it's not mobile.
-
Also something interesting I noticed, some of my custom CSS gets re-undone when switching themes without refreshing. Fun.
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in WTF Bites:

Even in fucktarded-tiny mode I can still see the buttons...
so....
Also the composer is adorable!
-
@levicki said in WTF Bites:
@Tsaukpaetra God damn it, it's not Safari, and it's not desktop vs mobile -- it is the fucking AdGuard hiding the buttons!!!

We should put a 97% tax on those one-percenters like that Ninja Blemish guy, and institute free Twitchcare or something!
-
@hungrier he's putting effort, yes. But it's abundantly clear he wasn't made for this. I love speedrun and game challenge videos, and I always look out for more videos of people doing them, and he's literally the only Youtuber in that category that I actively avoid. His videos are just so boring.
Why I don't just ignore him? Because he's in half of my recommendations.

@levicki said in WTF Bites:
@Zecc There is plenty of space to show the full reply and quote buttons, it't the site that it is broken.
Also if you hold a phone in your right hand and scroll using thumb there is no way to accidentally hit quote and/or reply buttons. You are more likely to hit voting buttons but mobile browsers are pretty good at interpreting touch so it literally never happens to trigger a button when I did not mean to do it.
But not much can be done if the browser is broken.

Somewhat.

@hungrier quoted Smallant1 in an abbr:
I beat Breath of the Wild without walking
I beat all of my games without walking.
I mean, even if I wanted, there's only so far I can take the controller; and I don't own a treadmill or a cartwheel.
-
@Zecc Come to think of it, it might be way more interesting if he played the Switch version, walking around his city or wherever the entire time
-
@hungrier Zelda GO?

@r10pez10 Bonus retardedness for putting HIV on the same chart. Or are all the figures for when you have "close contact"?
Then again, avoiding unprotected sex with carriers of the coronavirus might be reasonable advice?

@Zerosquare said in WTF Bites:
There's a guy that goes by name Smallant1. He has no qualities or talents, he sucks at games, he's very boring, and looks worse than me (and wears an uberhipster hat indoors). He has 100k followers on Twitch, 300k subscribers on YouTube, and his videos frequently hit over million views.
One of us should create a channel on YouTube and rant about bad software. Who knows, it may become popular.
-
Yeah, I thought about it, but all of his videos seem to be about gameplay, not Blakeyrants.
