Oh. In other news, I ticked the checkbox for "Make Linux Build" and uploaded it to the Steam store. With no testing of literally any kind. After all, the game server seems to run fine on Linux, why not the full client???
If anyone wants to give it a shot (even if you don't give a fuck. Don't worry, I'll let you borrow mine) and provide feedback if it even attempts to launch, that would be cool.
The Linux build doesn't seem to be available yet.
Well then Steam lies or there's more than four places I'm supposed to tell it that Linux is there...

WTF of my day: Today's evening saw a meeting of local business men in our auditorium, with there being a keynote speaker.
As I'm the resident tech wizard, I was supposed to set everything up and my principal told me that I was allowed to leave after the speech. The notes stated that the speech was supposed to take about 30 minutes, tops, and it was supposed to start after 30 minutes of some announcements and handing out prices.
The first part took 45 minutes instead and the speech is now fast approaching 90 minutes. It's also full of platitudes.
Someone kill me.
The three things that are only denied when they are true:
- "This won't hurt a bit."
- "This won't take long."
- "I'm not stupid!"

Maybe it just takes it a while to make it out to the public?

When I hit the submit button there was a rather serious-sounding message talking about how it would immediately take effect. :
-
@Tsaukpaetra did you look at the public page after you did it? I was looking at it with a Linux Steam client, so if it was going to hide it from anyone, it shouldn't be someone like me.

I mean, short of making a news post saying "hooray Linux!" I don't know what I'm looking for. Were you able to download-launch it?

I didn't try, because it doesn't have anything with the penguin logo. Just tried it:

I'll double-check, that's the first of the four places...

Yeah. Steamworks's UI is... not the best.

Also you did that thing I don't like. Two gigantic depots large enough to blot out the sun, with most files the same between each.

I was under the impression that the pak files cook different on each platform, or so I was vehemently told by my then-superior.
And since binaries are definitely different between platforms, this means that in theory they're completely different builds that so happen to be able to connect with each other.
Reworking Unreal Engine to split things out differently is too annoying to separate the depots now anyways.

Huh. Weird. Let's try that again...
Hey, did you know you can edit app settings while your session is logged out? Nifty, eh?
Anyways, I ticked the "64-bit only" box (which, as far as I know we don't have a 32-bit version anyways) so maybe that might have changed something?

Sadly, no kinematics, so they don't wobble like that in-game...

Yesterday night, I rebooted my gaming machine in Linux just to try your game and was disappointed since it was not available. Maybe I will try again tonight.

The logo isn't there but it's trying to install:

Ponies, squeaky unicorns, close enough. Are there flamethrowers? Flamethrowers and squeaky unicorns seem like a good pairing. Otherwise, no; I'll be over here casting fireballs at draugr.
-
@HardwareGeek said in WTF Bites:

There's a skull that laughs and spews fire, does that count? The only obviously-a-weapon thing are the pop-guns, and those shoot balls.
There's no such thing as player damage either.
Fireball-casting gloves are on the list of things I want to make though!

As long as I can incinerate the squeaky unicorns.

Ah, the flames are mostly cosmetic. I'll see about making an interaction to burn and explode them...

It's a Mario-esque platformer about a cute flower-person-thing who has to use his reality-bending powers to rescue the princess.
Sounds like Facebook, at least if you get to use flame throwers.

Windows Media Player is the only one that does work on my Windows 10. It always defaults to opening crap in "Xbox TV and Games" or whatever else media player it ships with, and those always fail to open the file. (Nothing special, just music stored as .mp3 and .wma format.)

I don't think WMP actually came with my Windows 10 installation. I ended up getting VLC for video files and i don't listen to locally-stored music (on desktop anyway), so

Mine has WMP - it works well enough that I don't have VLC installed.

WTF Status: Order something via Amazon Prime with free next day shipping, and it takes a week to get here. Order something and select slow shipping with "$1 reward for select digital items" because you don't care when it shows up, and you get a $1 coupon for stuff you'd never buy that expires in a week, and the item shows up the very next day anyway.
-
@mott555 Before I got Amazon Prime I would just use the normal free shipping for orders over $25 or whatever it was, and they'd get there in two days. I got a trial Prime membership and forgot to cancel it, then kept it anyway, not even for the shipping but for other stuff (Amazon Music, Prime Video, Twitch Prime). But also, next-day delivery is not bad either.

Can't complain about same-day either...
-
@dcon So far I've never had same-day. The quickest I've seen IIRC was ordering something on Sunday and getting it Monday morning.
