@FrostCat It's tracked separately.

@Cursorkeys @boomzilla @Tsaukpaetra
Turns out the UPS was not the main culprit. It likely had some effect since today was the first time I felt it since Sunday.
My husband just spent 3 hours reorganizing my desk to determine the cause and clean the cables up and have them touch the desk as little as possible.
The cable from for our cable was frayed and in contact with desk.

Oh, ok, I don't go there often enough or pay enough attention to have known that.
-

Huh. Did not see that coming.

@Karla At least now windows isn't nagging me to restart.

Reddit is great, I had many accounts there

That's what I thought you meant, but didn't want to say anything in case you meant something else.

I find it amazing that for all these years, Reddit has been encouraging people to post links to meme images instead of actual text content.
Reddit: it's got what Firefox's most advanced user wants!

imagine if people here posted replies just to try and get likes.
What? I mean, don't be ridiculous; I would never do something like that.

Today, I installed Visual Studio 2013's compilers by running the setup wizard and unchecking all the boxes.
Then I started Visual Studio 2015 and loaded a solution that used the VS2013 C++ compiler. About 5 minutes later, Visual Studio started responding.
Doing absolutely any action resulted in "the component cache is out of date. please restart visual studio" or something like that.
"Absolutely any action" includes clicking the X in the top right and using the Exit option in the File menu.
Thankfully, Task Manager has an End Task command.

It's the influx of fresh content from other places that makes Reddit work.
/r/WritingPrompts/ would like to have
a worda short story with you.

The cable from for our cable
Yeah cable cables can leak small shocks ...
I would also recommend you get this Xzibit guy to put some more cable in your cable ... dog or is it cat?
-
-
@Luhmann of course, we can delete accounts there, automatically disowning all it's posts too
but deleting a topic only removes it from the indexes, deep links will still find them. and there are other sites that clone content from reddit.
-
Xzibit
Not sure what a rapper has to do with it?
We suspect the dog did it. Though we had cats for a time.

i'd make the meme more fitting buit i'm too lazy to find the un memed image to memeify so...... there you go.

@Karla
No that's a different meme

Reposting on behalf of @gleemonk
I have sympathy for the idiot with the screwdriver. Most likely it was a leftover machine from the gigahertz wars. Those were LOUD.
I once added a resistor to slow the fan of a UPS under my desk. It worked and continued to work until I passed it on to a buddy. The guy later phoned me up to inquire whether it's normal for the device to produce smoke. I advised him to get rid of it. A month later I go for a visit and see the UPS sitting right next to his audio equipment.
"Didn't you want throw it out after it failed?", I wonder. "Nah, it still worked when I turned it on again the next day." Apparently not producing smoke anymore was enough to convince him that it was fine.

Everything wrong with StackExchange:

@Maciejasjmj The Lunux answer is only 6 points away from the correct answer now. Vote-wise.

Which chat is giving me that little '1' in the header? I tried clicking on both chats and refreshing, and nothing happened.

Which chat is giving me that little '1' in the header?
I think they are sorted chronologically, so the first in the list should be the one with unread messages. I think. At least that seemed to work for me the last time I got new chat messages. It could stand to be a lot more explicit, though.

TIL Windows 10 (or firefox ???) has support for italic emoji. Take a peek at my signature:
That's an italic
😶
😶
It also appears to render bold emoji?
😶 😶
-
-
@groo yeah, it all looks the same on my phone too.
-
@bb36e What browser on Windows 10? I've tried in Chrome, Edge, and IE but none render emoji. Maybe it's an Insider thing and I can see it in the anniversary update?
-
@LB_ FF 47, and I'm not running any insider ring
-
@bb36e oh weird. it only works in firefox. but my windows 7 desktop, running the same browser, renders them not-coloured.
weird.

@boomzilla StackExchange isn't wrong anymore
-
What browser on Windows 10?
Edge, and I happen to be on the most recent Insider Preview but it's rendered emoji for quite some time:
-
@FrostCat I think there is a misunderstanding here. Yes, the Unicode characters are rendered in all browsers, but they aren't converted into colored emoji (unless you're on FireFox or something).
-
git pull race-condition
Actually, I'm pretty sure it's my shell, because I occasionally see leftover text when navigating my command history. But either way,

Nothing new, but something that probably belongs in this thread.
Informatica has SQL-like behaviour and syntax for a lot of things. However, its outer joins work the opposite way to SQL outer joins.
In SQL, a left outer join means you keep all the records from the table on the left and include records from the table on the right where they match.
In Informatica, the two sources are called master and detail. A master outer join means you keep all the records from the detail, and include records from the master where they match.
Not a huge WTF, and far from the worst that Informatica has, but it seems so unnecessary.
-

weird.
Confirmed:
So hey... Do you want your desktop back or...?
-
@bb36e Sweet! I definitely see it on Windows 10 with Chrome. Bold is a bit harder to pick out, but it always is in this theme and font ,that's why I made Stylish turn bold text blue. The emoji did not turn blue, sadly.
-
@Yamikuronue So, it works in both Chrome and Firefox, but only for certain people on certain Windows 10 systems?
-
@LB_ Now that I'm at work, I also see the italics on Windows 7 Chrome.
I should probably add, it's not a colored smiley in either case, it's an outline-smiley, but it's totally italic and/or bolded. I see what Tsaukpaetra sees
-
@Yamikuronue Also firefox on Win7
-
@Yamikuronue Oh, that's not what we're talking about. This is what I see and what I think you also see:
That means I don't see colored emoji, only monochrome Unicode characters. The yellow italic circle at the top is @bb36e's screenshot where he sees colored emoji instead of monochrome Unicode characters.
-
@LB_ Ah yeah, I can see what you see on both machines. I was just confirming that the italicized emoji shows up as italics.

Ironically, on Windows this fixes that longstanding issue. Previously Backspace was contextual and now it's not - hooray! Sorry that macs don't have Home and End keys.

Sorry that macs don't have Home and End keys
They used to, before Apple decided that keyboards should be as small, shitty and laptop like as possible.
They still used to work wrong though. home took you to the start of the first line of the current entry, and end took you to the end of the last line
