@PleegWat have you tried turning it off and on again?

Helldesk? My computer is telling me to press the Any key but I can't find it.
My favourite approach in those situations is to press the Shift. It's definitely a key, quite a large one usually…

WTF of my day: So, I'm playing a bit with Cordova and managed to set it up so that it talks with XCode so I can create apps for iOS.
Near the end of the build it asks me for the password of the app (yes, it was phrased this way) so it can sign it? Tried the Mac's account password but it didn't work. Hrmpf. Guess I'll have to look around. So I clicked on "No."
Only after doing so I realized that it probably asked me for the password of my AppleID in order to access the certificate to sign the whole thing.
No problem, I'll simply run "Build" again and surely it'll ask me again?
No such luck. The build now always fails because clicking on "No" obviously means "Hell no, don't even dare to ask me again and bury the option to ask again so deep that NO ONE will ever find it again!"
Great. Which absolute and utter moron made a dialog where there's a "Yes" and a "Always yes" button but only one "No" button which actually means "Always No"?
-
@Rhywden Oh, and just before you ask, there also wasn't a "Cancel" button.
Before that I also ran into the "You need to set a development team in the project's properties!" error which helpfully didn't tell you how to actually get to the project's properties.
Because it's not in the menu at the top of the screen. No, you have to double-click on the root object with your project's name on it in the file-tree to the left.
SO DISCOVERABLE!
-
SO DISCOVERABLE!
It's Apple, it's supposed to be intuitive. If it happens to not be intuitive to you, you're obviously thinking it wrong.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I just found out, it gets even better!
I simply deleted the project and recreated it from scratch (because anything else seemed to make things worse). That made the dialog come back. This time I looked closely at what it asked: I really did ask for some password of the app itself to sign some capability.
Well, this time I entered the password of my AppleID, only to found this one to be rejected as well!
... wait. The animation is different...
...
So, when I entered my AppleID password, the window did this quick shaking to indicate that the password wasn't correct. But when I entered my local Mac's account password (using "Enter" to submit) the window disappeared and immediately reappeared.
When I then entered the local password and clicked on "Always yes" the window disappeared, the app got built ... and then promptly failed to install because I first had to manually push a provisioning profile to my iPhone (not that the error message would tell you that this profile was missing on the device itself! Or where to get one such a profile!) But that's another story.
I can only guess that this signing routine tries to sign a whole bunch of files and asks for each and every one of them - and doesn't indicate anywhere that this time it's about something different.
Also, shaking the window to indicate a bad password? HOW DISCOVERABLE!

Yeah, that's been a thing for a while, actually. Intuitive, no?

Apparently it's supposed to be 👩🏻❤️💋👩🏾 this? But I feel like something is special about that that isn't being pasted correctly.
Who knows...

Maybe you just have racist/sexist fonts installed because it looks like this on Windows 10:

fun fact: right Alt is an alias for Ctrl+Alt.
Unfun fact: AltGr+F12 doesn't trigger the "Peek Definition" thingy in VS2015. Instead it focusses the "Find Symbol Results" panel.
I have some pretty good left hand reach myself, but it's not that good.

@Luhmann not sure what kind of TMI thing you can do in Visual Studio. But if someone knows, please keep it to yourself, thank you very much.

@Zecc any particular reason you can't use both hands for that shortcut?
Paraphrasing whoever it was above in this thread: it bothers taking my right hand off the mouse.
Edit to add: and yet it bothers me even more using the context menu.

But I feel like something is special about that that isn't being pasted correctly.
It uses some fun Uniscribe font features like contextual alternates to replace several emoji with just one. It's the same one that handles combining skin tone onto emoji faces, or country codes into flags. If your font doesn't support them, or if you have a forum or app that "knows emoji better" than the OS, then this happens. And that's actually six emoji (and three ZWJ): ⟗⟗⟗.

I believe there is a special circle in hell for designers of laptop keyboards.

Right, because it traps that by scan codes, and it happens at a lower level.

Is there some kind of analoge to the ig-nobel prize for computer related "inventions"? We've sure got a lot of contenders, but pretty sure this ought to be on the list.

Emoji are what happens when the complicators solve the idea of sending pictures over the internet

@Jaloopa
To save bandwidth you store every possible picture on all computers and only send hash values of the pictures you want to send. Combine as necessary. Then apply this to memes and funny videos. I can't see why this wouldn'twork.Edit: Sloot Encoding System

I have an old phone that I use as my alarm clock. It's running, uh, Android 4 I'd say? It's been fine for months but since a couple of weeks it's suddenly showing 2-3 notifications per day for random click-bait newspaper articles . Long-pressing the notification sends me to the update manager process so I'm guessing this is the process that is suddenly spamming me?
Of course on that screen there is a check box to enable notifications but the check box itself is disabled (and checked), so I can't uncheck it.
Where does this cancer comes from, and how do I turn it off?
(actually the only thing that worries me is that I'm not bothering to clear them and at some point I'll reach the maximum number of simultaneous notifications, whatever that is...)
-
Thank you, KC Lemson.
