@blakeyrat
As far as glorified tech demo with logging as an afterthought goes, it's finished alright.It isn't about broken promises. I'm not crying about money here. I can't stand people like that. I've got well over my money's worth from it, especially with that discount. And I'll probably get whatever they throw out next because it aligns with my weird ideas of fun, and there's nothing else like that. It's just sad that this sort of thing isn't being more actively developed. I'd buy DLCs, but there isn't anybody making them.
There's nothing to do in it. I've crossed all maps from one side to another, on hard, didn't bother with one star. Now, I don't want some half-assed story mode, virtual economy or anything. Just more stuff. Modders have helped. The whole thing of tracked vehicles was hacked in for both games. They didn't really work very well up until recently, but that's exactly the point. They probably could have sooner if supported officially. And mod work has really died down after the announcement, too, because, among other reasons, life is a thing that happens.
But let's suppose mods could keep the game going. Among "WIP", buggy and downright stupid things there are some quality ones. But mods don't even run very well, because it's 1) a 32-bit application and 2) LAA doesn't help because it leaks memory all over the place like an overexcited dog.
For a comparison, take a look at SCS stuff. Not that there's much to do there either, apart from sightseeing of very arguable quality, but the amount of stuff increases with every update. And they've been at it for years now. They could have wrapped it up and left it to ProMods etc., but they didn't. Eejits being eejits are raging about DLCs, but SCS is still growing. These kinds of games is about the only thing where loads of DLCs actually make sense. A new vehicle or a map every now and then, and the public gets their circuses and developers get their bread, everybody's happy.

WTF of my day: So, you may have heard about this bit of unrest in a part of Germany called Saxonia. Let's just say that they're ... special. State government and police have a certain aptitude for being short-sighted on the right eye.
Now the police had a grand new idea to help restore order: They're calling for upright citizens to join the Sächsische Sicherheitswache (Saxonian Security).
Not a single one of those morons ever thought about what that might just be abbreviated to.

Ok; how's that relevant?
(Seriously, people, stop pulling three-letter-acronyms out of your ass and posting them on forums. What the fuck is SCS? Nothing in my Google results is even slightly relevant. Your goal here is to COMMUNICATE with people, yes?)
-
@blakeyrat The developers of Euro Truck Simulator, American Truck Simulator, etc. I had to look it up too.
-
The best part is of course:
It's Base64-encoded. What did you expect?
Also, that trailing space is bothering me way more than it should.

Meanwhile in Poland:
This is the thing I hate the most about personalization - it makes it absolutely impossible to experience the Internet the way another person does.
-
@Gąska The real problem is people typing gibberish.
-
@blakeyrat even worse are people who type perfectly legible sentences that I still have no clue what they mean by them.

My mistake. See, save for occasional joke of arguable quality, I make it a point to not participate into most discussions here (or anywhere really) because while I have an opinion (wrong or otherwise) on pretty much all things, I realize that I couldn't maintain an argument because of my spotty (or outright absent) experience, and relying on Google to pull information out of my ass on the go is a very damn shit substitute for that.
...
I must be new here.

You just need a little more practice. I pull Google out of my ass all the time, and it serves me well!

No internet? No problem! It's certainly no reason to stop the spinner according to Windows Update.
Haven't you heard about Microsoft's new Telepathic Update Network? It will give users of airgapped computers access to the nagging and auto-reboot features of Windows 10. No user left behind!
-

I expected exactly that. Hence why I wrote "of course" (though that obviously wasn't clear except for myself).

And while Mozilla is busy toying with Firefox, Google is working on core features for Chrome:

-
@Zerosquare noticed that as well. At least they've had enough decency to put avatar somewhere visible, so I could notice it immediately and switch to Firefox.
-
Someone from Google claims that "it doesn't mean your data is sent to us, we've only added it as a reminder, because users were getting confused":
Two questions:
- how is this less confusing than before?
- can other sites do that as well, or is Google special-casing its own products?
-
@Cursorkeys said in WTF Bites:
Oh, come on. This is just silly:
That's not bad, but they forgot to set the custom cursor over the text field also.
Really the sensible thing would be to prevent a custom cursor from overlapping with the window chrome by more than a certain amount, and either crop the pointer if it gets too close to the edge of the window or force it back to the system default mouse cursor.

I suffer from the exact same issues in nearly every discussion, but participate anyway and nobody notices. Try it, it's fun.

I'm pretty sure they're special-casing. They already do that for Hangouts screen sharing as far as I can tell.

@ben_lubar are people in the game industry really that bad at C++? Please tell me this is an isolated example...
These four nonconsecutive memory addresses are apparently a single 32-bit integer.
-
@anonymous234 said in WTF Bites:
Ever since I set my desktop background to solid blue, my window borders have been... solid purple?.
That's your accent color. Mine is dark purple.
-
@ben_lubar Until I discovered that checkbox you note, I was terribly confused when the accent color kept changing when I changed my background picture.

And they're not even aligned!
Remember: never buy programming books from pay-what-you-want sale.

That's the benevolent interpretation anyway.

And here I was thinking that slurrrping sound (cue Bill Lee from Naked Lunch) was Google pulling things out of my ass!

I appear to be a moron that does not know what Sächsische Sicherheitswache (Saxonian Security) might be abbreviated to...

So now it's fascist to have something named with two words starting with S?
Better not talk about the Social Security...

@Tsaukpaetra a German collection of people standing up for law enforcement called the SS has a bit more cultural baggage than an American welfare system. If you had a fancy dress shop that sold white ghost outfits you probably wouldn't want to call it Kris's Krazy Kostumes

I'm almost positive someone has taken this as a challenge.

@Jaloopa There's a finnish supermarket chain called K-Market. Back in the day they came in three sizes from small neighborhood grocery store to large supermarket, the size being shown by adding letters. So there was:
K-Market
KK-Market
KKK-MarketFor some reason they seem to have dropped that system...

If you really want to max out the offense given, propose tearing down the Statue of Liberty to make way for a Colossus of Trump.

a Colossus of Trump
a YUGE Toad?
A giant orange baby. With tiny hands

Oh hey, Firefox's new tab page has this little icon with a fox wearing a VR helmet. Maybe I'll post it on the Fox Ideas thread.
It's small, but it looks like it is an SVG file, so I can make it as big as I want:
Wait a second - did they double encode as Base64? Haven't noticed that before. And this only makes an already huge pile of WTF even worse.
-
@Gąska Base64-encoded PNG within Base64-encoded SVG.

I think you're asking for too much. We haven't even started building Fort Trump!

@Tsaukpaetra Think about the first letter of each word. Now write them next to each other in a cute little font where they look like lightning bolts.

Add to this that it's in Saxonia, a place at least stereotypically full of neo-nazis.
If the shoe fits...
