Discussion of NodeBB Updates
-
Since the NodeBB Updates thread is locked for commenting, but I still want to discuss them, here's a new fancy thread for it.
I'll go frist:
https://what.thedailywtf.com/topic/19454/nodebb-updates/64
This update broke things for me on IOS/Safari as well as IOS/Chrome. If I go into any topic and then go back to the topic list (Recent), I eventually get an error message. Clicking reload does not work in Safari and crashes Chrome. I have to close the tab and re-open it to get back to the topic list. Clicking top-left- instead of using the back button gives the same result.
@ben_lubar: ko sidju!
-
@Mikael_Svahnberg currently posts don't seem to stream in for me. I have to reload. Both desktop and mobile.
-
@swayde Yup - same on the /unread and /recent lists too. No "new posts" toaster.
-
@loopback0 said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:

Actually that seems to be working now.
-
@loopback0 In my experience that thing's always been unreliable.

!There's no punctuation in lojban. Instead, use an attitudinal.
I don't have an iOS device to test on. Do you remember what the error message was? I don't see anything on newrelic.
-

@ben_lubar , like this one?
-
@M_Adams
Typical Ikea design ... they really brought the cluebat to it's most simple form.

No error message on safari, just "an error occured so the page was reloaded", and then tail-chasing tadpole. On chrome it was something similar "ooos, looks like something went wrong". Of course, now it works...
So, sidju.ii ?
-
@Mikael_Svahnberg said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:

there would be a space before the
.
because the.
just means that you're about to say a word that starts with a vowel or that you just said a word that ends with a consonant. (It's a glottal stop)But yes.
ko sidju .ii
means "YOU! help (fear emotion on previous word)". You could also do.i.ii ko sidju
to put the fear emotion on the whole sentence.
-
Yeah, that's nice and all, but "composer.formatting.bold" is not a very helpful tooltip. (CBA to try to screenshot it.)

@NedFodder Those strings haven't gotten to transifex yet. I guess someone at nodebb has to do something to make that happen every so often? @julianlam?
The source language for nodebb is en_GB. If you set your locale to that, they have the correct wording:

The best language

Yeah, that's an unfortunate part of how NodeBB updates work. The new menu on the unread page is another example; that thing looked like dog crap on en_US for several days (not to mention the problem PJH brought up). Is there a way to get some of those things translated (to at least a few of the more popular languages) before updates are pushed out?

Basically...wait for that to happen. It looks like we have the default language here set to en_GB, so I'd suggest setting your language to that for now if you can put up with the occasional 'colour' nonsense.
-
@boomzilla OMG I just noticed there are title attributes on Composer buttons!
Though.... they're surprisingly not very helpful anyways.
-
@Tsaukpaetra They seem pretty straightforward to me, if lacking in elegance.
-
Paging @ben_lubar ... emoji are now broken.
-
-
@Tsaukpaetra po-tay-to, po-tah-to.
-
I sure like this one:
Good thing refreshing worked.

I was composing something that I had put in emojis into. Those vectors are apparently huge natural size!

something something open source no testing

And images are broken too:
EDIT: I forgot there's no view raw

@boomzilla weird, it worked locally when I tested the plugin. In fact, it still works locally.

Yes there is, it's labelled Quote.
You might have to refresh the page for it to work

And now users can't talk about VB.NET or ASP.NET without getting infected with links.

It still works, because nodejs lies about what's defined by default when you use the REPL.
-
@ben_lubar I wouldn't rely only on REPL testing for something like that. It sounds like the equivalent of a unit test, which isn't bad. But you still need something like an integration test to make sure it all works together.
-
@ben_lubar Pissing about in the REPL doesn't count as testing.
-
@ben_lubar So, please consider, on reading this, that I've been drinking all afternoon, and the current count is at something like a bottle and a half of red, 4 beers and a quarter of a bottle of ginger vodka.
Your latest update apparently changes uploaded avatars to png. That's kinda OK, and I'm not going to ask you to convert mine (you know bad things will happen if I have to find a new avatar), and I'm afraid to check in case my existing avatar gets ungiffed, but have you also fixed the UI side of things?
What I'm asking, I guess, is "is it still possible to upload a gif, even if it gets converted afterwards"?
I have a sinking feeling that I already know the answer to this.

Figures. Fix the symptom, not the cause. Did you at least give it a good
testREPLing?
-
Fixed: Notifications in Darkly Theme are Unstyled, Show up Completely White
Was this tested? It's now very dark grey on slightly darker grey

@ben_lubar well done that man.

-
Did they change something with the navbar?
-
@NedFodder yes, happens on narrow and medium window width modes, but not full width.
-
@anotherusername notifications as well:
-
@NedFodder oh, yeah. I'd actually only noticed it on the notifications, but you're right... it's happening on both unread topics and notifications.
-

It's called a Bikeshed, dear.

Bullshit. I'm at 1920px resolution, and see the slimfast numbers.

@Lorne-Kates said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:

False, it was a bugfix:
https://github.com/NodeBB/nodebb-theme-persona/issues/240
It created more bugs than it fixed, but it was not bikeshedding.

How does a bugfix include a UI redesign?
