Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide

@PJH You'd think EVERYONE has heard of this H2O trick by now, but no.
-
I once got blocked by the twitter account for an organic soap company after calling them out for claiming their soap had no chemicals. Asked if it was made of magic and Unicorn farts instead, then they blocked me after I linked to a definition of chemical that proved them idiots

@thegoryone said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:
@Jaloopa Like my sister-in-laws moaning when they're invited round for tea. Organic food nutjobs who complained about our chicken, potatoes and condiments not being organic...
The funny part is that it works for them. If you believe food will magically satisfy you, it will. If you believe food tastes better, it does. Due to the profound weirdness of the human brain, being better informed actually makes it harder to eat healthy.
-
@swayde TIL that my Werewolf Name (Replete With Initial Caps) is Grey Howler on this forum.
Or at the very least that ParanormalRomanceJunkies (DepletedOfSpaces) think so.
Heaven help you if your last name ends in Y, because then your werewolf last name is "Vixen", female fox.

Oh, the "food" "babe" modus operandi!

-
all this talk is making me hungry.
explains my name, Ravenous Howler.
-
@swayde I get 'Ancient Vixen'
-
@RaceProUK Dace Pro UKy?
-
@thegoryone said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:
Sodium Chloride which by it's very definition cannot be organic since it has no carbon. It's an inorganic fucking chemical compound by definition, god dammit.
you must be using a different definition of organic than i am.... because the one i'm using doesn't mention carbon. otherwise i'd have to call C02 and gasoline organic.
-
@ben_lubar I based it on my real name; if I use my forum name, I get 'Scarred Hound'.
And if I use my avatar's name, I get 'Moon Red'. Which is just shit.
-
@RaceProUK said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:

nah.
I get
White Red
, that's worse.
-
@thegoryone said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:
@accalia chemically speaking petrol is organic compound though. Not sure on co2 since its a gas.
gonna disagree with you on the organic compoundness of petrol.
yeah it was living things, but then so was coal and we don't call coal organic.
-
@abarker Oh, yeah? Alpha Fire here.
-
Lone Wolf? Laaaameee...

Soap is probably one of the oldest usages of chemistry. Morons.

Not sure if whoosh but "organic" does not mean "living" in chemistry :)
-
@accalia said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:

Organic chemistry is essentially the chemistry of chains of carbon atoms, which petrol almost entirely consists of; as far as chemists are concerned, petrol is organic.
@accalia said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:

Chemists do, as again it's carbon chains.

@accalia Yeah, people who insist on using the chemistry definition of "organic" when they know the discussion is about food are obnoxious.
(And people who use the "everything is a chemical" definition of "chemical" are almost as obnoxious.)
-
I prefer to go with hydrogen hydroxide or hydric acid as those are much more likely to trip people up. Especially in their anhydrous forms.
-
@Groaner said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:
hydric acid
The only acid with a pH of 7 :)
@Groaner said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:
hydrogen hydroxide
The only base with a pH of 7 :)
-
@anotherusername said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:

were you using the food definition of organic or chemical definition?
because it read like you were trying to use the chemical definition, and so i responded in kind.
if you were using the food definition then..... well organic food is a lot weirder than organic chemistry, and organic chemistry is plenty weird to begin with.
-
@accalia you weren't replying to me in the post that I replied to there.
-
@RaceProUK said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:

Coal is more one of those grey areas - I usually go for compounds including at least one heteroatom (usually hydrogen). Then you can be pretty sure it is indeed organic.
-
@Rhywden Yeah, I was being a little oversimplistic

Only at room temperature, though. Le Chatelier strikes again!
Also, ammonium acetate would like to have a word with you.

@Jaloopa I was willing to leave it until she complained about the salt not being organic...it was good old Sodium Chloride which by it's very definition cannot be organic since it has no carbon. It's an inorganic fucking chemical compound by definition, god dammit.
Cholesterol-free peanut butter. Made from peanuts without livers.
-
@thegoryone said in Organic Farm Denies Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide:
I don't doubt that, though I suspect not getting their child her inoculations probably cancels out the benefit of homeopathic foodistry.
Ahhh.... the "I believe in everything" type. That reminds me, I saw a guy at the gym this morning that was wearing a hooded sweatshirt over a long sleeve shirt with gloves and heavy pants. I see this a lot, so it doesn't bother me as much anymore, but this guy also had a gallon jug of water. Apparently he practices both dehydration and hydration simultaneously.

Ugh, not that guy again… when is he going to learn 'no' means 'no'?
-
@PJH I expect they'll be using Brawndo instead. It's got electrolytes plants crave!

We don't need chlorine. Chloride Cl- yes; chlorine Cl2 not so much.

And in doing so you'd be the best kind of correct.

Alpha Temptress here, which you'd know is obviously true if you've ever seen me:

Plenty of hydrocarbons in coal. Where do you think coal seam methane comes from?
