If only there were some way to BLOCK elements from rolling off the page. Like some MODEL where it could be kept in a BOX and allowed to alter the FLOW.
Like display:block
But nah. css3 and javascript!Would that keep it from going off the page? I do not even try to predict what CSS will do.
This isn't css. This is bog standard HTML DOM layout.
Something that's a block will take up flow, and will increase the height of the screen when displayed.

I can play this game too.

Also, if you scroll down, not only is it floated, but it's also absolutely positioned. Two ways of taking out of the flow, for extra funsies.
-
@Lorne-Kates you are aware that absolutely positioned elements and floated elements also extend the page in the directions text flows (bottom and right for English websites), right?
-
@ben_lubar absolute positioning pulls it out of document flow.
If you happen to position it such that it extends off the viewport, it can extend the page beyond the viewport, but that is distinctly and explicitly not the same as document flow.

I am sure no css or html code would be able to change the height of my laptop screen.

This topic in General Help is apparently 18 hours old.
I've had the forum open all day, and I've JUST NOW seen it appear in the "unread" list.
What the fuck?
-
@blakeyrat said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Did it get moved? I thought it was in General Help, though I may be mistaken...
-
@Tsaukpaetra ? It's in General Help now. Moved from where?

Umm... Well, this is embarrassing, I have no idea!
-
@blakeyrat I suspect it was in look at me. Don't you ignore that one?
-
@blakeyrat The other day I had a couple of topics with new posts that weren't showing up in unread. One of them was even a topic I created. The only way to get them to show was to close the tab and open a new one.
-
@boomzilla Weird. I can't repro it, because that topic at least has been working for me.
If it happens again I'll note it.
-
@blakeyrat I only noticed because I got a notification about a reply. But I didn't let it sit for very long, so maybe it would have resolved itself eventually like it apparently did for you.

Streaming has been utterly broken for me for aboot a week now. I've just been too busy (and too sick over the past couple days) to care or complain.
For instance, I had my "can I do this stupid shit with serializing" thread open in a tab since it was first created. I never once got a stream in. I always had to F5 for new replies.

It's usually fine for me, but occasionally breaks (usually when there's a network glitch). A full refresh provided I do it on the topic list has always fixed it for me. So far. It sounds to me like this client-side websockets wrapper is flaky as fuck. :(

Did you try jiggling any cables?
More seriously, did you close the tab and open a new one to see if that magically fixed anything?
-

Same here, and it's especially annoying in the Mafia thread. Most of the time, I cannot see what the others have written in the last few minutes.
@ben_lubar, any idea what's going on? It's kinda hard to play the game like that, since you have to be able to react to others quickly.

Well at least it's consistent?

It's an SVG, so I think the expected behavior is that it doesn't increase its pixel density past that of your screen.
-
@FrostCat it makes perfect sense if you consider that the iPhone screen has 326 DPI, while the desktop screen has much lower DPI.
-
@ben_lubar Well, maybe something bigger than a 32x icon would be appropriate for a 22" 1080p display.

True, but there's something to be said for sprites that were specifically designed for the size they're displayed at...
(or at least to render well in it... adjusting things by a few pixels in the larger size can really reduce blurriness when it's scaled down)

This 1/5th icon is apparently users?

Ah, you're first hand witnessing the "fix" that stops the menu bar from wrapping elements and overlapping the topic title.
-
@Tsaukpaetra How "fix"-y it is. Good job avoiding regressions, NodeBB.

Whenever I hit the double down arrow navigation on the Bad Jokes Thread: https://what.thedailywtf.com/topic/15907/the-bad-jokes-topic/1652 I end up going UP to post 163. 163 is conveniently close to 1/10th of what the actual latest post number is, not sure if that's coincidence or not.

It's easier to hover and read the tooltip on desktop than on mobile though.

Ignore STILL broken.
If I ignore a thread, then someone in that thread mentions me, I still get notifications. No. Wrong. Bad. Ignore means ignore.
Ironically in this case, it meant I went back into a thread someone told me to ignore, because after telling me to ignore it, they then mentioned me. Kind of counter-productive.
-
@blakeyrat said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

That's how my original code worked, but they changed it.
-
@boomzilla Ok well... could they FIX it maybe?
I know someone wrote the bug. That doesn't help me. I want there to be no bug. That is my goal: no bug.
-
@blakeyrat said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

You should get your own forum software, with hookers and blow!
-
I should.
Header's suddenly too wide for the space it belongs in:
There's no horizontal scroll bar. (Not that here should be; the header should be the correct size.)
How do I get to my notifications? Ah: return to an index page instead of a thread page...
As if by magic, the header is correct now.
Good update, guyz, I'm glad there weren't any regressions. It was so carefully tested.

Couldn't you just incorporate it into the upvote notifications plugin you wrote... make an option in the settings for "Mute notifications from ignored threads" or something?
-

I hear if you make your browser 3px narrower that goes away.

I wonder if @blakeyrat can see what UI element might be causing the header to move over. Or how his notifications button is still visible in all of his screenshots.
-
@ben_lubar said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Clearly clearly he clicks his Avatar to access notifications.
-
@ben_lubar Oh fuck off, Ben L, you can see the bug.
Yeah I typed the wrong widget name. THEREFORE NO BUG EVER I GUESS! BEN L SURE CAUGHT ME OUT ON THAT ONE!!!
-
Don't worry, if you're carefule, you can get rid of most of the other widgets too!
-
@blakeyrat said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

They disagree with you that it's a bug.
-
@boomzilla Well they're wrong. I guess open source dictionaries don't have the right definition for the word "ignore" in them.
-
@blakeyrat No, you just don't appear to have learned the grammatical construct of the direct object.
-
@boomzilla well as you know better than anybody, I am illiterate.
-
@blakeyrat then you should ask someone else to file a bug report for you.
