Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems

If you have a YouTube embedded video playing, and a reply streams in, the video stops and it can never be played again! (Well, you can hard-refresh.)

@boomzilla What about segregating users on your wall clock?
-
@boomzilla doesn't have a wall clock...

I suspect this is another effect of the client side transformations.
$(window).on('action:widgets.loaded', function() { $('.js-lazyYT').lazyYT(); }); $(window).on('action:posts.loaded', function(){ $('.js-lazyYT').delay(500).lazyYT(); });

Aside from @loopback0's correctness, I have no idea what this would even mean if I had one.

That's fucking irritating and is the reason I now open all Youtube videos from here in a new tab. Which also requires pressing play because the video title link doesn't show until then.

@blakeyrat Awesome:
Ralph, Apr 25, 12:36 PM:
Hi Blakey,Thanks for writing! I understand you are seeing screenshots sync'd by Dropbox appearing in an undesired manner.
You can disable syncing your screenshots in Preferences of your Dropbox by following these steps:
- Right click on the Dropbox icon in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen - by the clock - on Windows, or click on the Dropbox icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen on Mac or Linux.
- Click the Gear icon.
- Click Preferences.
- Click Import.
- Uncheck "Share screenshots using Dropbox".
If there is anything else I can do to be of service, please reach back out to me and I will be more than happy to assist.
Regards,
RalphNo good deed goes unpunished, now I have to explain that this is a bug report not a support request (the ticket type being set to "bug report" apparently didn't convey this to Ralph there.)

Dear Sham-Wow: When I use a Sham-Wow to wipe down a whiteboard, the Sham-Wow bursts into flames. Apparently you changed Sham-Wow to include a chemical that reacts to dry-erase marker. Many people use Sham-Wow to clean whiteboards, and they won't be expected their face to be incinerated. This is a bug.
Dear @Blakeyrat: Thank you for using Sham-Wow! I'm super-excited you're learning more about our wonderful product. You can use Sham-Wow to clean whiteboards with both dry erase, or even wet-erase markers. To do so, just add some water to the Sham-Wow before removing wet-erase. Have a (Sham)-Wownderful day!

@Arantor said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:
@fbmac even Wordpress has that feature.
Wordpress has every feature.
It's just that every single one is shitty.

Given that Ralph's instructions describe how to turn Dropbox's print-screen interception altogether, this is more like "I understand you're seeing whiteboards cleaned with Sham-Wow obliterating in an undesired manner. You can avoid cleaning your whiteboards with Sham-Wow by following these steps..."

That has nothing to do with this, though.

I think that concept is best explained in this XKCD:
-
Speaking of NodeBB issues, is this the worst UX in a product crammed full of disgustingly awful UX?
Yes, yes I believe it is. (Guess what the top two buttons do. Go on, guess. Unless you've used this screen before, you're wrong.)
-
@blakeyrat It's easier to tell what you're ranting about if you flag the first post in an off-topic discussion. The flag resolution screen sucks.
-
@Yamikuronue I was planning to scroll up and flag all of them, but then I got distracted by that terrible UX.
EDIT: and then while I was typing THIS post, somehow the topic got scrolled all the way up to post 1. Lovely.
This is, seriously, no better than Discourse at all. It really isn't.
-
@blakeyrat I've moved the posts and moved this topic to one where people are supposed to follow rules from the OP.
-
@blakeyrat said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

That's what happens when a topic is forked while you're in it.
Incidentally, it doesn't dismiss the fork-post dialog, which then contains posts that are already missing. Lovely.
-
-
People are supposed to follow rules from the OP in "look at me"? News to me.
-
You didn't put it in bugs? Or somewhere sensible?
-

You remember that classic line from Slaughterhouse Five, the six word description of heaven?
Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt
This forum software is basically the exact opposite of that.
Nothing was tested and everything hurts
-
@blakeyrat Ok well I apparently don't have permissions to move my own thread to a different topic, but I'd appreciate it if you put it back in General, or possibly Bugs. This shit isn't "look at me", it's more like "look at NodeBB being broken".
-
This post is deleted!
-
@blakeyrat said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Correct. I didn't put it in bugs. I put it somewhere sensible. It's your topic, after all. You've talked about that a lot.
-
@blakeyrat After you reach page 60 trolls post faster and mods start messing with thread category.
You're almost reaching on topic to page 100 that's what we call the impossible level. At page 100 your thread will be renamed to climate change is 4 realz! and be advertised on 4chan.
-
@boomzilla But it's not about me.
What the fuck ever. Do what you want I guess.
-
holy shit i was quick enough to read an @fbmac post before it got deleted.
-
This should be categorized to META, really.
EDIT: But bugs is fine, too, I guess.
-
How come the only tab in the top nav that has a "New Topic" button is "Recent"? You'd really expect to see one in Categories, wouldn't you?
-
@blakeyrat I've had this same thought.
-
@blakeyrat said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

It's not. "Home" also has it.
Which brings me to another question. How come "Home" and "Recent" appear to be exactly the same thing?
-
@anotherusername said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Because your home view is set to the forum default, which is Recent
-
@anotherusername said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Because "Home" is only the same as recent by default. You can change which page "Home" is.
edit:
-
@blakeyrat said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

I think it comes back if you go into a category, just not on the list of categories. Doesn't make much sense really
-
@RaceProUK It'd make more sense if
/
actually redirected to the chosen homepage (/recent
by default).As it is, the default is that
/recent
says "Home / Recent" at the top, and clicking the "Home" breadcrumb takes you to... the same page, except without any breadcrumb trail at all. It doesn't even say "Home".

Yep:
/me wonders how to turn off the stupid image scaling that her Surface insists on doing
-
@Jaloopa said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

It's probably because you need a category to put the topic into, and if you're on the root categories page, you're not in a category.
It's kinda weak, but it's a reason...
-
@sloosecannon makes sense for that page, but what category is Recent?
-
@sloosecannon said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

If only there was some kind of dropdown you could pick the category from...

24 notification this morning, of which 21 were "likes" I don't give a shit about.
Even worse, since that dumb notification menu only shows like the last 7 or 8 for some reason? I have to go to the full notification page to find the actual notifications I was actually interested in. Because the "mark as read" button in that dumb menu doesn't just mark the ones it displays as read, it marks all notifications everywhere as read.
-
I hate the notifications in this forum.
- The notifications popup is tiny;
- Middle-clicking a notification closes the popup;
- The notification isn't marked read when I middle-click, not even in the new tab;
- The notifications page only opens a "pageful" of notifications and doesn't tell me if I have more unread notifications than shown. Sometimes it refuses to load older notifications until I refresh the page;
- Notifications related to a given thread don't collapse and they are shown most-recent first, which means if I click the first notification I see I have to scroll up a lot if I don't want to miss posts;
- More often than not, pages loaded aren't quite scrolled to where they should.
I've been visiting less frequently, even considering leaving altogether, because of this.
I hate to say it, but: Discourse did it better. A lot better.
Other than better performance and less 504 OKs, I don't see the advantage of changing to NodeBB.
And where can I find the list of threads I'm watching?
-
@Zecc said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Go to
/unread
and change the "All Topics" dropdown to "Watched Topics".
-
Thanks.
Edit: I notice it doesn't stick.
Why are the icons for pinned and locked threads hidden? sigh

It displays 10. The most recent 10, whether they're read or unread. If the "mark as read" button only marked as read the 10 notifications that the dropdown displayed, then you'd just have a notification dropdown with 10 read notifications in the list. You'd still have to go to the full notification page to find the ones that you're actually interested in, if they weren't in the 10 most recent.
And yes, I've suggested making the unread notifications bubble their way onto the list, so if you had any unread notifications it'd always show them, or at least 10 of them if there's more than that.
