Poll: Upgrade Discourse?
-
Continuing the discussion from Yahoo's Engineers Move to Coding Without a Net:
That reminds me - we're a few updates behind...
We may be missing new 'features.'
For those that care - should I bother updating the forum software? Personally I'm inclined to, to see what new heights of ery have been added recently...
[poll]
- upgrade
- leave as-is
- meh.
[/poll]
-
Just this once I'll vote an actual answer.
-
ery looking promising....
-
Strange, the poll values actually add up to 100% for once.
-
-
NO REPRO
-
-
Give it time.
NO REPRO
I must have looked at it during those few milliseconds when Discourse accidentally mathed correctly.
-
I voted yes, but I think we'd get the new composer and I don't know if our custom buttons would work in it.
-
It adds up to 100% at the moment.
-
-
Cooties ahoy!!!
All aboard the HMS Regression!!!
to see what new heights of ery have been added recently...
Why didn't you just log in to meta.d and see them over there? Oh, never mind...

There's nothing obvious - as we know though, it takes actually using Discourse to big out the "quirks" and not a lot of that really happens over on fail.d.

*EDIT ahhh feck missed Ben's post.

...did I just hear a whoosh go by?
Or do people here really think that 88 + 11 = 100?
-
Would the (currently) one dissenter like to provide a reason why not? I'm sure they're mafia....
@vote
whoever
-
Behold. A Christmas miracle.
whoops!
-
LOLWUT? What happened to the dissenter? Strangled with their underwear? (again?)
-
Discourse itself was the dissenter, but it got confused about hanging chads and its vote got lost.
-
Discovotes!
-
Enjoying the pub tonight?
-
Is it showing? Tsk!
-
What about the custom buttons? WON'T ANYONE THINK OF THE CUSTOM BUTTONS?
-
WON'T ANYONE THINK OF THE CUSTOM BUTTONS?
Yes. We'll have to figure something out if they break. Won't be the first time.
-
Enjoying the pub tonight?
I think we need an Official TDWTF™ Pub Thread. Founding members are, at the very least, @Weng and @PJH.

ISTR a thread recently about defining what a pub actually was.... UK/US certainly differ...
-
We'll have to figure something out if they break.
Like when we figured out how to get the custom CSS menu back?

Hmm...sort of. Except I remember working on the custom editor buttons.
-
Yes. They differ in the sense that the US is wrong, natch.
Strange, your avatar looks like a dog, not a fox. Anyways, I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about "the pub" around here IRL. It's more likely "the bar." I guess the only time is when it's an "Irish Pub."

They're into themes. Ours just happen..
-
You know, if we upgrade, there's a chance that everything will immediately come to a crashing halt, due to some kind of

Yes.
-
Why not both?
-
I'm voting to not, mainly because of the whole mass banned with prejudice from meta.d thing. I don't feel like it would be in our best interests to incorporate any code that Jeff's written since then.
Anyway, we know more or less what's wrong with this version; in spite of the episodes of server cooties, it doesn't have any more huge unfixed vulnerabilities that I know of.
-
What happened to the dissenter?
Is it too late to dissent? I'd rather deal with the Discourse we know than the Discourse we don't.

Why change the habit of a
lifetimesince that particular May?
-
-
Is it too late to dissent?
Not at all. But bear in mind that this forum is basically a form of "benevolent dictatorship." Alex is the dictator, me, @boomzilla, @abarker, are currently filling in, in the meantime.
The views of the peasants are occasionally requested, but (as in the UK at the moment) usually ignored if they dissent from the administrations views.
On this particular issue however, the electorate's views are happily coinciding with the general view of one of the surrogates...
On a more serious note, if there is a serious reason not to upgrade I'll postpone/cancel it.

I think that @loopback0 has identified the most important issue. Did they switch out the editor, and how difficult / possible is it to get our custom buttons back?
-

Yeah, at least with what we currently have, most of the issues are known and workaroundable. God only knows what fresh madness an update will wring upon the site.
-

If we're moving elsewhere, (ignoring issues in the mean time,) does it really matter?
Actually, ignoring the fact we're fucking off, that is important (to others) - upgrade cancelled; unless it can be proved that the stuff we've added will work after upgrade.
-
If we're moving elsewhere, (ignoring issues in the mean time,) does it really matter?
But how long is the mean time going to be?

How long will it be until Discourse start playing nice?
-
-
But how long is the mean time going to be?
Ask Scrooge - he's mean..
Ghost of Christmas Easter? Ash Wednesday?
-
Are these customizations available to the general public? I could test it
-
I think we need an Official TDWTF™ Pub Thread.
Did someone say scotch thread?
I desperately need a scotch emoji, BTW.

I did not notice anything different when I posted that bugrep to meta.derp this afternoon, but I wasn't looking for differences.
