yeah. and that's why it's not a good idea to ingest nitroglycerine

What sort of anatomy allows a dwarf to grab an ear with a forearm?
Dwarf Fortress simulates EVERY INTERNAL ORGAN!
Duh.

If I jump off a ledge in World of Warcraft, the resulting damage (and optional death) and healing afterward also shows up in the combat log. Even though the game agrees I was never in combat. I consider this to be working as intended.
Well, that's also because it's the "what happened to me?" log, not the "combat" log.
-
Just because WOW has the same bug doesn't make it not-a-bug.
FrostCat's axiom: the definition of "bug" is not "@blakeyrat disagrees with the way it works."
-
Why did you disprove your own axiom in the post you posted your axiom in?

Also, apparently you haven't pushed iwbta to your Github? Or perhaps it's named differently?

Also, anyone interested in seeing what @ben_lubar up there was talking about with:

I hosted a copy of cmvjs targeting the attached cmv file as the default file.

dwarf fortress videos without commentary don't really work, imo.

I haven't pushed it yet. Right now, it's just a CMV player, but maybe it'll be a Dwarf Fortress clone if I can be arsed. Eventually.

In my world, you can't play as a horse, but I started in a dwarven fortress and there are horses all over the place, lagging the game up. It seems related somehow.
**When I retired the Horse**, it did not come up as a playable race again, so I restored the character.
Not sure if it related to this issue, but i looked at my world's populations trough legend viewer and it had about 15000 dwarfs and **300000** horses
Each human settlement on my world is reported to have exactly 600 horses. There's definitely something going on here.

I fixed the animal population caps, and I've fixed a major cause of horses being playable (armies were dumping their mounts into the civilian pool when they returned), but that wouldn't explain the playable dogs and donkeys I've seen. Still not sure what's up with that.
Emphasis mine

Taken out of context, they're almost guaranteed to be hilarious.

I think it's the combination of SO MUCH STUFF being simulated combined with the fact that it's software that's gonna have bugs. So many complicated things interact in really weird ways...
-
It's that, plus the fact that the stuff it's simulating is stuff that happens in real life. Getting something slightly wrong in a game that doesn't have a way for the fat to
meltboil off of a living creature and that creature to immediately bleed to death just doesn't have the same effect.
-
Yeah. Since we know how things "should" work, it's blindingly obvious when they aren't working properly...

Eh I couldn't recall if he had help or not. I thought he might have had his brother working on it (no idea, ISTR though...)

- Zach Adams, implicated in the Murder of Holly Bobo

IKR? I mean, perhaps the cat and dog merely ingested the fingers after biting them off, but instead they accidentally equipped them.
-
So I generated a world.
And I was like "wow, that mountain range in the middle looks like a dick."
So I increased the evil budget.
I was going to call it "purple dildo mountain", but the actual name given to it by the game is pretty good, too:
(Oraburdim, which is Dwarf for "The Leaky Tower")
So anyway, here's a little background:
It's been 250 years since we started counting.
There are only three and a half thousand dwarves left in the world. The last remaining dwarven civilization is Kel Tad, northwest of the tip of
Purple Dildo MountainOraburdim.- 3401 Dwarves
- 140332 Humans
- 60520 Elves
- 96677 Goblins
- 2211 Kobolds
A party of four dwarves will journey to a location of WTDWTF's choice and attempt to survive. The choices are:
-
Tangoden (that's Dwarf for Tickedropes), a ruined fortress that was destroyed 240 years ago by a dragon. We're surrounded by our civilization's fortresses and humans to the north, but there are a lot of goblins across the river to the southeast. We're also partially on haunted land, so there's probably going to be some kind of disease-causing rain or fog, which could do anything from making dwarves dizzy if they stay outside too long to turning them into super-powerful zombies that exist only to destroy. There's very little soil, and temperatures are quite hot. We would spend most of the first few years trying to recapture the fortress.
-
A new fortress in a sand desert at the north side of the mortified dunes, bordered by an ocean to the east, a haunted savanna to the north and west. This would be a pretty far trip for the dwarf caravans, but we're very near to some human cities to the southwest, some goblin camps to the northwest, and some elf tree villages to the west-northwest. We have a little soil, but the main goal is to mine the rich deposits of metal ore. It is warm here and trees are scarce.
-
A new fortress in the mire of ardoring, bordered by Oraburdim on three sides and a terrifying sand desert to the south. On the other side of the desert is a human settlement, and past that is a freezing sinister ocean. No elves or goblins are nearby, but horror surely lurks on the mountains above. There is a large amount of metal underground, and little soil, but a moderate amount of surface plants. Temperatures are cold, but the nearby river should only freeze for a few days per year.
-
A temperate conifer forest, far away from any evil. Bordered on all sides by dense woodlands, we should have plenty of materials to build furniture. There is very deep soil here, which would allow us to quickly set up many underground farms. We have no friendly civilizations nearby, but there are some goblins. There have been sightings of wild animals of enormous sizes.

You have my attention!
This game seems entirely too involved for a casual gamer like me though...
Also, screenshots above, the green area interprets as a fat Lady...

I feel like naming the dwarves after TDWTFers. Who wants to be in the starting seven? (Also, what profession?)
-
/me raises her hand
Glass maker.
-
Glass maker.
Are we gonna have glass chairs and doors or something? I'll put you down for craftsdwarf, which includes glassmaking.
-
-
I'll put you down for "administrator/noble".
-
can I be a troll there?
-
Unfortunately, we can only bring dwarves along.
-
- raises hand
Civil engineer
-
-
I nominate BenL for the profession of manure shoveler.
-
Make me a
miscellaneous object userthrowerhammerman. I'll also fill in for hammerer if none appears.
-
Ok, let's put @accalia on sock-making duty and @Yamikuronue on cupcake-making, for obvious reasons.
So the starting seven are:
- @aliceif, craftsdwarf
- @boomzilla, expedition leader/administrator
- @PleegWat, engineer/mason
- @ben_lubar, farmer
- @TwelveBaud, hammerdwarf
- @accalia, clothier
- @Yamikuronue, cook
Anyone else will be part of a migrant wave. Unfortunately, this means we don't have any way of getting wood, so we'll have to spend some of our starting budget on bringing some @wood along.
-
I said manure shoveler, not farmer.
-
Unless you mod the game, nothing produces material type 15.
-
Sure, I'll be a part.
/me volunteers. I'll be a.... Smith. Sure, blacksmith.
-
Aww I missed the starting 7. Oh well
