Come on, cut them some slack, they are just starrting up!
Yes, I know where the door is.

I thought you are exagarrating.

Since you've asked, I'm on a marathon now, plus end of year.
I salute your dedication to this forum, that you would post--presumably on mobile, which, as we all know, is different--from a race. Good luck!

I for one will be pleased when this mobile fad passes and we can all get back to using Mosaic on a desktop PC as
God Jeffintended...

For whatever it's worth... Oh wow, why do we get a topic is older than 7 days, revive?! warning for just a week?

why do we get a topic is older than 7 days, revive?! warning for just a week?
Because someone thought that would be funny or something.

I don't like how the editor have no keyboard shortcuts for simple things as bolding or adding links.
Yeah because those work really**emphasized text well in Discourse. NOT****strong text
-
Jeff is the big name behind Discourse, and he is big plus an awesome dude in general.
Yes, he really is big.
-
In the latter post.
Jeff is indeed an ass and discourse is an unfortunate product of his ego.
-
Ah, should have read on. Thanks.

That link just crashed my mobile chrome browser.
Have in mind that we use a lot of software creates by assholes like Jeff in our daily life like windows, Linux, BSD, Oracle, etc. All created by fucking assholes.
NodeBB crashed in an update for me, and don't have a easy to use backup functionality comparable with discourse.
And for phpbb you can get a free hosting, that is good for ghost town forums like us.
Edit: we refer to traditional forum software like phpbb, SMF and mybb here as toxic hellstew forums, probably because of something Jeff said.

Some of us took it particularly hard as, you know, one-time devs of said software (me, SMF)

windows, Linux, BSD, Oracle, etc.
Well, I'm not sure Linus have an ass this big. And, from those, I only really use BSD. Plus, like with linux, whoever was responsible for all those "software created by jerks", probably don't get to call any more decisions about 'em anyway. So, kudos to who made it, but fuck them. Who cares? ;P
Jeff is a much bigger fucktard in my humble opinion because he's trying to make a "civilized" tool for talking and then using censorship along with dictatorship in the only place he can.
I never really enjoyed SEN and I guess now I know why. All those moderation tools and the community they create around a narrow topic also build a closed mindset and stupidity arises. Not by coincidence, even while not having proper versioning, Quora is a much better idea and solution to the whole Q&A conundrum. No need for stupid gamification and scoring system there (along with that dreadful bounty feature), they started to realize already.
-
His moderation in stackoverflow was similar, and there is a lot of drama about it in the internet too, that was not the only place he does it unfortunately.
Parts of the system for autoregulation are good ideas. The way flags work without moderation, and how older users are able to kill spam by themselves are both good ideas.
His moderation style that is a problem, and any forum that follow his advice is no fun at all.
-

older users are able to kill spam by themselves
It's not difficult; we just hit it with our canes.

That's gay.
Ewww, disgusting!
Just look at the polygons! Especially the blonde woman's hand.
And her clothes look really weird, too.
-
polygons
Kasmeer's hands are a bit low poly, but how else could we make up for the hundreds of polygons needed for the feathers on her "armor"?
Marjory has lots of feathers, too.
By the way, she doesn't use those weapons anymore because now she has a sword made of her dead sister.
And not at all because they look like

that used to show up on google when you typed "mimindo" (portuguese slang-ish for sleeping)
and this is fun science:

Spoiler that. Or don't post it.

done. you meant both?
-
Well I have no desire to see the top one but some of us are at work so yes, both.
-
dam, you need better work places! :(
maybe if you quit your job and work for yourself... if you're in a developed country, there's no excuse for it other than laziness.
-
there's no excuse for it other than laziness.
And liking having a (relatively) stress free life
And a reliable paycheck
And not having the funds to start your own business
And enjoying the human contact you get working in a company
And enjoying the benefits provided by a larger company
The list goes on, but there are many reasons people choose to be employed rather than self employed. Personally I have a family to support, and like the reliable paychecks.
Oh, and add that I work 9-5 and know that when I am home I am home, not having to worry about client x's bullshit because I'm self employed and need their business too much to tell them to take a long walk off a short pier.
-
precisely my point, all wrong points there. every. single. one. do you need me to address each one?
-
Yes please. Im curious to know how I can be self employed, getting an equivalent pay and benefits package to what I currently get with minimal added stress. Please bear in mind that I don't have rich family or friends I can get cheap loans from, and I can't afford to miss more than a months paycheck without causing my family unnecessary hardship.
-
well, if you really want to know, read about reinventing organizations and basic income. maybe take a month or more to absorb it. then realize what's your real need. take a year or so to do the calculations. if you are in a rich country, you don't need a rich family. if you're in a poor country, just come to portugal.
I come from a miserable family, terrible dad and basically broken mother, nobody can help one another but my poor aunt offering her humble home if you need (I did need it once or twice), all from a waste latino land in brazil. almost nobody today is prisoner of their birthplace or "fate".
and sorry notifications aren't working plus I could address each point but I'd do it slowly if I feel enough feedback or if you want to skype. ;P
-

You're full of shit.

Jeff. He puts it all into his product.

Colonoscopy patients?

Ladders!

if you're in a poor country, just come to portugal.
I prefer to endure my wtf job than being that far from my extended family.
Didn't Portugal make it harder for us brs to move and work there? I heard it was easy at some point, but EU was pressuring them to make it harder.
-
Not as far as I know. Also, the non-working ways of brazil's bureaucracy was learned from somewhere, you (probably don't) know.
I already convinced 2 skeptical close friends to look better at Portugal. And I've tried migrating to many better places before. I've lived in US for 1 year, travelled to NZ and most of eastern europe. Nothing compares to here.
If you got an italian blood, that is an easier path. Else, just look at it. I'm telling you, it's worth it. ;)
As for the EU pressure, I don't know. Maybe they are. But maybe there is also other EU pressure against that pressure. You know politics is not all evil, especially in Europe above any other place in the world, I'd argue. EU a much freer "country" than US ever was.
-
I would struggle to earn what I currently get while employed in a self employed fashion. Sure it's possible but it's stress and time consuming in ways I do not want to have to deal with.
And EU legislation doesn't help either...
-
You didn't address his points and now you're spouting shit again. Now address his points or fuck right off because I'm actually interested in how I can double an almost six figure usd salary without the stress and overtime of being self employed while still retaining my benefits, flextime and 25 days holidays excluding company shutdown time at Christmas and public holidays.
I'm sure as shit no one at c-level takes as much time off, works as few hours and is as stress free as us plebs in our company.
-
I actually did and you actually already knew it. You just don't agree.
It doesn't work for everyone, you do need to let go the lazyness.
Still don't feel like going through more detail in here, as I still don't see anyone really listening. Call me on skype, and we can try.
Okay, found some random energy... Don't know, maybe a neutrino just hit me...
Here, I'll give you more hints:
The stress free comes from laziness of thinking. You don't want to try thinking about everything, so you let other people do it for you. They get their deserved part, since not being lazy is the most valuable asset anyone can have today.
Having the funds to start your own business comes from the laziness of saving. Or asking. Or working triple hours. You rather watch tv or play games.
Human contact in a working company? You fucking kidding me? Start up is all about networking.
"Benefits provided by larger company" are in place to keep you lazy and under their hands. Mostly. And not precisely on purpose as well, but it just is.
I bet you I can pretty much keep going much further list than you can.
You do have to work 24/7. If you don't want that, I call it lazy. You could also call lack of focus or objective in life. Or you actually have an objective: being lazy. That's fine. As long as you don't complain about it. It was your choice.
And do keep in mind this as well: working 24/7 in something you love deeply is insanely rewarding and humbling. You have to focus and let go everything else. So it's also a lot of work. If you find that same point inside of you, that meaning for life, you'll easily begin to realize what I'm trying to say. Even if you don't still agree with it or fully get it.
-
You do have to work 24/7.
Haha...@Weng figured out how to do that and not be his own boss!
-
Work to live, don't live to work.
-
Again you haven't addressed any points. Just crap you probably pucked from skim reading a self help book and are now puking back at us instead of actually answering the questions.
But anyway you're working 24/7/365 and your net worth is how much?
I just work at in IT. Its not my hobby nor a way of life and going down your route sounds like hell. I do my 35 hours and then fuckoff home to my own life.
-
If your only goal in life is acquisition of wealth, working 24/7/365 can be a thing.
But do not tell me I'm lazy because I "only" work 45 hours a week, have my 22 days holiday. I don't have as much money as you might at the end of it but I'm willing to bet I won't be burned out by 45, and will have lived much more with my family and friends in the same amount of time.
But sure, I guess, redefine the word "lazy" to mean "people who choose to have a life".
-
Is it lazy to want to be able to come home at the end of the day, not have to worry about work and instead be able to play with your kids or take your wife out for a meal?
I don't know about anybody else, but I personally view work as something that let's me afford to do other things. I'm not being lazy when I look after an ill and upset child to give my wife a break, but I also am not available to work. In your book, the fact I dare to want family time seems to mean I'm lazy? What the fuck have you been smoking? Because whatever it is, I don't want any of it!
-
working 24/7
in something you love deeplyis insanely rewarding and humblingand causes schizophrenia after a few days of sleep deprivation.
No matter how deeply you love what you're doing.
