Our instance has grown too much for profiles to be reliable.
Wait, what? Our userbase is tiny. The mighty world-conquering forum of the future can't render profiles for our teeny userbase? How are they gonna handle getting forums with thousands of active users?

It can't be easy to defend Discourse and its devs
Oh, but it is.- Belm.

Wait, what? Our userbase is tiny.
It's not the size of the user base but the size of the profiles. And not that they're super huge, but too much for discoursescale.
How are they gonna handle getting forums with thousands of active users?
Recrimination and finger pointing, if history is a guide.

What the fuck "some friend I didn't know" even is? Are you one of those fuckin hipster types that go around all happy and smiling and talking about your thousands of internet friends?
Are you an ad?
The sentence is "some friend i didn't know I had". Once of the few things he wrote that makes sense.

Well, you can't put Discourse on a CD and share the knowledge with Everyone, can you?

E_STILL_NO_SENSE_FOUND
BTW, quoting is broke on mobile, I often quote too much or too little of what I really want. Simply stopped caring.
So, the quote was probably supposed to be with the "I had" included. 'Cause it's still stupid.

the size of the profile
Is that your profile or are you just happy to see me?

Much hard. Very maths. Wow.
So... how's that original topic of this coming along?
-
he's openly admitted that he wants to change how internet forums work and make them more civilized
He's going to find that impossible. Jeff is an asshole and only knows how to communicate like an asshole, there are plenty of posts on the internet, authored by Jeff himself, that prove my point. He was bound to fail before he even began.
My favourite was the time he went onto an academic SO site (math I think) and pissed everyone off and got into a huge slanging match. Ahhh, the good old days
-
And not that they're super huge, but too much for discoursescale.
It's the gamification of all of the things approach that breaks it.Well.
That and shit code written by morons.
-
Well, I don't think there's a way to give him one since he didn't create a topic that @cregox replied to. Unless we create a manual badge.
The badge can just be manually awarded in the admin section, no?
-
If 2 = 6
?Uh.
What the fuck?
I guess the answer is: "it doesn't, your problem sucks, the end."

You think cregox is the end-result of that effort?

There's already a thread about it on WTDWTF, but I can't discofind it. Here's the original:

Yes, but the auto-revoke is what causes the problems.

Found this there:
@Jeff Atwood: Earlier 978 had noted that Akhil Mathew got the second highest number of votes in the last moderator election. But you disregarded it and appointed just the people you wanted. Given that history, I do not find myself at all enthusiastic to vote in the next election. What is the point? You can simply do away with the farce of an election and simply appoint your nominees. It will save the time of a lot of people. Even now you are not willing to acknowledge the malpractice and correct it. For a show of propriety you should at least now offer a moderator position to Akhil Mathew.
BTW, Discourse insists that when pasting from SE, line breaks should be preserved. I had to paste to text editor -> copy -> paste here for Discourse to realize that it's a one paragraph. Once again I was

That was interesting, @NedFodder. I actually enjoyed reading most of this thread here, along with a few things, such as getting to know a bit more of what's
belm
or who was that StarTrek weird dude, who I still don't know and have no clue why I was linked to it. Or even the title changing there. I sure can easily look incoherent, and I was rambling a bit. :)In the past, I sure have noticed a few times of how Jeff can be considered an ass and, well, truth is if you want to make a stance you can never please everyone.
I love the randomness of this site, and many things tickled me into posting here, regardless of the most obviously expected backlash I would and I did get.
So, anyway, thanks for the warm welcome. I'll get to learn more about you and maybe try to join in, if that matters to anyone... ;P

No clue what you guys mean by all that trend there. Or what's "Filled Under" which self links to the post. Oh, now I noticed something there... Yeah, I was trying to link to @candlejack1
I also still haven't read the FAQ. Sorry about that. I've joined many communities who never change it (unlike you) and I got used to ignoring it. It's on my read list now.

Read here:
https://what.thedailywtf.com/t/wiki-memes/917
It's from the tag system on the old forum.
The

comes from what happens in various Discourse bugs when the Javascript craps itself and passes a null to something that shouldn't be null. It's been seen in error messages, polls, posts even I think...
There are various memes, most of which stem from Discourse bugs.

With all the bikeshedding stuff, you're right. In the end, no one gives a fuck if a button is blue or red. We can edit site CSS. We can use Stylish to make a local change. We did this already, many times. We argued about it, but in the end we went "meh, we'll fix it in post" and went on our merry way and kept bitching about it here, not on meta.d.
No, the problem was we pointed out objective issues. Measurable performance issues (<shameless plug>have you seen https://servercooties.com/? </shameless plug>), bugs in the Markdown parser, shit outright not working. As bonus, with us being a bunch of geeks and programmers we couldn't leave well alone so we spent hours, days, even weeks creating reliable repros, tracking JSON requests, finding causes of bugs, proposing workable solutions.
What did we get for it? Jeff telling us we're using the software wrong, degrading or blackholing of our bug reports, and, in the end, banning of almost all TDWTF members on meta.d and effectively telling us to stop using the software because we apparently don't fit within his vision od users. We are Doing It Wrong™.
He bangs on about open source and community. This community wasted man-years of time testing stuff and creating quality bug reports. And what do we get?
That, my friend, is why Jeff is an ass.

Hey, you remember that bug that let you capture another user's – any user's – registered email? Good times.
Or fa-spin! That one was fun.

I know your schtick is "belligerent confusion" but that should be read, for each line of the form n = m, f(n) = m.
f(2) = 6, f(3) = 12, ..., what is f(9)? IOW f(n) = f(n-1) + 2n, IIRC.
Yes, I know you don't care. I don't care that you don't care.
-
IOW f(n) = f(n-1) + 2n, IIRC.
f(n) = n × (n + 1) works perfectly well for the set of examples given.

I've tried digesting you
Bad idea. You'll certainly end up with indigestion, and some of us are downright toxic.
