Fuck you, Wikipedia

Where the fuck do they live that a cup of coffee is $3?
In London, UK it's about £2.50, so probably about the same.
-
Mine shows the new tab screen for either a new window or when opening the browser without any tabs previously open. I don't know why you'd want different behaviour for those.
-
Ah yes, the good ol' "Brigham Young Assassin Squad"
More seriously though, they are afraid of not being allowed in the temple when their children/friends/siblings want to marry and all but them are worthy of entering it. It is a system that not only separates Mormons from non-Mormons, but also filters you according to your level of dedication to the church.
It is also fairly common to check on and talk about your neighbors, it makes sense historically as a defense mechanism taken by a minority to preserve their identity.
-
Sheesh, I've never experienced that. As far as I was aware, a moderately large contingent of people around me took some of the..."lesser" parts of the Word of Wisdom with a pinch of salt, and ultimately I don't think it had a big impact on their templeworthiness.
I think some people could definitely take it to an extreme, but most I met weren't that fanatical about it. Or any facet of the church, for that matter...

It depends where you are born and raised. Mormons in general are nice people (too nice actually), minorities are always nice because that is a surviving mechanism. Not having templeworthiness is not that harsh a punishment, I have an ex-Mormon friend that was ex-communicated by his brother and father but not his mom. It is complicated and people choose their God, each person has a different God.
-

Do you mean disowned? Excommunication is usually done by the church to "forcibly" remove a member...I've never heard of it being used in a familial context.
Mormons in general are nice people
Generally either that or they're really sanctimonious, although I guess that is the case with most good things (incl. religion).
It is complicated and people choose their God, each person has a different God.
That's how I see it; I think that's a good way of looking at things.
-
I did not ask if he was disowned and did not read about it either, I do not know. I only knew about it in the familial context. Families not talking to you and such. From what I gathered, the worst one is being ignored by your mom and not invited for family gatherings and thanksgiving dinners.
-
good things (incl. religion)
That is different from:
each person has a different God
If you are a good person, you select a good god, it has nothing to do with having religion.
-

Correct. That's your alignment.

I heard from a reasonably reliable source that Mormons are not allowed to smoke crack.
-
Fuck, they don't need to. Have you ever read the book of Mormon?

Even if they get elected mayor?

Dude. TL;DR.

Yup, there is, but last I checked it was only available in the pants-rip quality.

Have you ever read the book of Moron?
Discourses, Chapter 3, Verses 7–9.
For it came to pass that the people were not pleased at the bugginess of the software, and did choose from amongst themselves some engineers to petition the Lord Jeff for the fixing of those bugs and the creation of software that didn't suck wombat scrotes. Yet this caused great discomfort among the priesthood of TCoTCDCK, and the Lord Jeff spoke forth “Begone from my temple!” and he smote the petitioners and drove them forth with much wailing into the wilderness and banned them from returning. And the Lord Jeff looked upon the bliss that ruled once more and saw that it was good (except on mobile; that was Different).

If we're basing Discourses on the Book of Mormon, we'll also have to claim that Jeff actually programmed phpBB in 1998, but everyone forgot. June 17, 2000, Nathan Codding and John Abela are all lies.
-
In London you are lucky to get a good coffee for $3, a medium sized americano goes for the equivalent of $3.50 if you go for the cheaper place.

Okay, so I got an email delivered to my SpammieMcSpam folder:

http://i.imgur.com/lyFNtcN.pngI... this is really edging it, Jimster.
- This is the first time you're "bugging" me. But you are bugging me.
- I'm sure there was something in the TOS of the donation site I used that allowed you to spam me. But that doesn't mean you should. Especially not from your "personal" email address, which is not on my safe-senders list, as is obvious from it being delivered to Spam
- I was nice and gave you money because you asked nicely. Begging does not become you.
- Highlighted text. Really? REALLY?
I'm-- don't make me regret defending you.

I did too! Despite not ever having donated...

It seems that ads are evolving, they are getting smarter than us. Don't you get it? Now even Wikipedia can't tell what's an ad and what's not.
We're entering dark times. The times, when ads rule the world. And people, hah! People can't do anything about it.
-
It's a full-screen ad on mobile. Apparently "We'll get right to it" means write a short dissertation on why "Wikipedia is something special"
-
Click the "X"...
-
Didn't help! It just moved it lower in the page! Now though, the moved the X to (almost) the other side!
And if you miss it, this happens!
Also...
-
"This week".
-
-
They didn't say "only this week"...
-
-
Well: "he" + "she" + "it" = ?

I've had three begging emails in the last month after donating £5 last year. I've basically paid to receive extra spam email. Never again.
-
They have too much money already. They don't need all those 240 employees to keep the part I care of wikipedia running.

Key quotes:
This sort of financial situation is actually far from unusual among large nonprofits, which hope to guard against future shortfalls by amassing current reserves.
.
At other nonprofits, of course, even those in the media space, fundraising drives rarely provoke such contempt. [...] It is, in fact, considered industry best-practice to maintain a cash reserve in excess of your charity’s annual operating expenses, per the Nonprofits Assistance Fund — that way, if costs go up or a major donor disappears, the organization isn’t left out to dry.
.
Despite the fact that that particular ad had proved most effective in a series of A/B tests, WMF vowed to change its wording in response to fears that the ad exaggerated Wikimedia’s financial situation or otherwise deceived donors.
.
Leaving aside Wikipedia’s other well-documented problems, there’s already evidence that donations might be due for a fall-off.
-
You give too much money to a non-profit, and they will find a way to spend it.
Wikipedia uses about 400 servers, and they spend 50 million a year, that is US$ 10000 per month per server.
-
Most of the money goes through flying their executives around to various dubious conferences at tropical locations.

Well, that one-box is unfortunate. I bet you can't spoil a one-box, can you?

Their problem is that they've got way too many staff. The best thing they could do would be to lay some of them off. Like, a lot of them. I don't know which ones, but I'd start by looking at the most expensive staff members; since they're not doing much in the way of maintaining the content of the encyclopædia, they really don't need to have that many. Once they've got the staff-spend down (and maybe also moved to a cheaper location) they can quite quickly build up all the reserves they need to be able to operate for a long time.
The purpose of Wikipedia (the organisation, not the site) is not to employ developers.

The onebox never showed up for me, so I assumed Discourse was smart enough to obey nsfw content warnings on wikipedia.
