The Google Ideas Thread
-
And here goes my attempt to re-rail (INB4 ) this thread.
Good idea: Reporting on similar submission-based metrics on the same report.
Bad idea: Expecting that the consumers of the report will understand that "similar" doesn't mean "Will tie out 100% across the board".Example:
Response:
> Why doesn't
3
tie out to1
and2
?
< Because they're three different metrics Shachtze!
> We're going to need them to tie out though.
< I've explained this before, and we've had seven three-hour-long meetings on this before the release, please refer to(email chain 82 replies long)
for more information.
> What? We can't spend time figuring this out! Just make the numbers match!

You are tl3 you can do that yourself!

have anything interesting to say about open source AI and instead feel like latching on to my pointing ou
That sounds like work. If it's like other AI stuff, it won't work very well.

like other AI stuff, it won't work very well.
It's Google's AI stuff. And it all generally works pretty well.
-
I suspect that a lot of their stuff depends on having a large amount of source material for leaning or searching our whatever that won't work very well without Google levels of information.
Not unlike IBM's Watson. Though Google's probably doesn't need such obscene processing power.

But I generally avoid GitHub
Why? I can understand not being interested, but why actively avoid it?

Well, I don't actively avoid it. I've never had a need to make use of it for my own projects (yet, anyway), and any time I'm given the choice between going to GitHub to get something or just download it directly, I go with the latter because it's usually simpler.

If it is your project and you like to share it as open source then GitHub is great. I even push my dot files so that I will have my bash, vim and PS1 always set up the same on every machine. Then there is the problem with washing your dirty linen in public, if you suspect it could end up here as a story.

Looks to me like a major selling point of the library is that it makes it easy to throw obscene amounts of processing power at your problem.Someone's probably going to set up a TensorFlow "computation provider" or whatever they call it that rents time on the Amazon GPU servers. (Keep in mind - that sounds to me like ~1-10 second latency operation.)
Google already has those MapReduce server farms so TF can just use those.

Since I missed out on season one of The Flash while it was running, I had to wait for the DVD box set to come out, which means I also got all the bonus features. In the blooper reel, Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow) messes up a couple of lines, which she acknowledges by saying "fuck me!"
Her co-star Tom Cavanagh (Harrison Wells) has a more elaborate version. His reaction to messing up a line is "fuck me with a spoon twice daily". To substitute a fork here would just be silly.
Well, he is a doctor.

That's racism and we don't tolerate it on this forum. On Topic : Am I missing something or does this look similar to HaLoop.
Also what is wrong with forking? Its a technical term. One of the advertisements for this forum is fork me on github. Ever heard the term from Linux communities "Well create your own fucking fork then"?
*edit fucking hell I need to learn to proof read.

fmt
You have to be trying very hard to get a out of that one. Reads as format to me. Or possibly ferment

HaLoop
HaLoop? Wasn't it Hadoop? Are those separate? Are they even related? HOW MANY OF THESE THINGS ARE THERE?

Whats with the obsession about notifications? Do we draw from your demonic powers when we notify you?

It's not the size of the dongle that counts, it's how you insert and remove it from the receiver.
-
Be sure to always unmount and safely remove your dongle before putting it away.
-
And remember when inserting to use the third side.

Be sure to always unmount and safely remove your dongle before putting it away.
And only then it is safe to remove the goggles

Can't you just use dropbox or equivalent?

Wow, I'm autistic
You keep saying that, and I know it's none of my business, but I'm curious as to what it is about your person that leads to this classifier.
-
It's worth noting that Amazon, Google, Microsoft and other companies already offer cloud-based machine learning.
Microsoft's is by far the most advanced one, the other are just "give me a big table and I'll make predictions for new values". Check it out, you can try it as a guest: https://studio.azureml.net
Edit: oh, funny, they also have an offline toolkit: www.dmtk.io/index.html

I believe Ben has a diagnosis, so various bits that match the DSM definition

Well, yes. My question was what bits were those.

Doesn't stop it being racist. Also the Irish are a fucking plague that should be euthanized.Maybe, I guess, if HaLoop had a lot more work put into it?
They're both open source projects that do a similar thing so I'm guessing someone's pet project that's being put out to pasture. Google tends to drop these things like hot snots. They use to have this wonderful library for testing Eclipse RCP products but let it languish on github never to be resurrected and useless for everything beyond indigo and junit 3. It was quite handy for creating a crutch until you could put a proper testing framework in place.

Also the Irish are a fucking plague that should be euthanized.
But then we wouldn't have Irish Girl!

We could keep a couple hundred to breed for posterity's sake.

what it is about your person
Pretty sure he's actually in a coma and can't wake up, but managed to implement a neural interface into the Internet before accidentally disconnecting himself from his lower functions....

That's at least partially my fault. #SorryNotSorry
That's racism and we don't tolerate it on this forum.
It's OK, SJWs are allowed to be racist (have racist redefined in such a way that the term couldn't possibly be applied to them).

Never has any adult thought; "Fork me" means "Fuck me".
It was a joke in an episode of the British comedy Coupling, and it seems to have been partly behind Donglegate.Yesterday I had never heard of Donglegate and I feel dumber today thanks to discovering it.

We had a situation in our app where we used to say 'we'll need to fork the data for this' - every single time, everyone in the room smiled uncomfortably and fake-laughed. We officially call it 'bifurcation' or something now.
-
If you need to fork data that often maybe you should just marry it.
-
Undoubtedly. However, our 'database' is made up of many text files, and in this case, it involved keeping two copies of all the things and switching between them. I think someone understood why this would need to happen, but not me. I don't ask too many questions about the 30yo components of our application.
