I dropped in to say hello, and wow!

you've got to think that most of the issues would have been ironed out.
Plenty of things got fixed, other things got introduced, and some things that were fixed got broke again, and again, and again.
Then there are the hundreds of layers of paint on the bikeshed. That's probably all that's holding things together anymore.

Jeez - they didn't fix performance in the last 15 months either, did they?
Actually they did, there was a time it was even worse.
Scary, but true. They've actually improved performance more than once.
-
Yeah, the big one was whatever @sam did that really helped the Likes thread become somewhat reasonably responsive again a few months back.

I wonder what happens if...
Oh look, a "regression"! I tried that very thing last year and it didn't work then.
It also kills the like button if you expand the "in reply to" object below it, like so:
You may notice:- I have liked the post
- The like button is grey instead of red.
Also, if I click the like button, it tries to add another like, then tells me "You are not permitted to view the requested resource.". Additionally, it doesn't fix itself until I refresh or otherwise re-enter the thread section.

You used to be able to like a post multiple times.
Until that bug sadly got fixed.

Yeah, those were fun.
Remember the negative likes that occasionally happened when you tried double liking? Those were kind of fun.

Doubly so!

Edit: I is shocked. SHOCKED****strong text

Jeez. I know you folks have had the delights of playing on here since it opened but I tell you what; coming back after thirteen months (so like a new user, but with some recollection) shows what a disaster of anti-discoverability this thing is.
Trying to figure out which threads I've posted to, what do the numbers mean, which ones have I read, what area is a thread in, how do you quote text, how do you double quote text, what is the difference between Reply, Reply and Reply as linked topic etc etc etc.**
If I hadn't landed in the middle if discogeddon and hopefully just before we pile out of this platform and onto another one, I might have gone "fuck it - I'm off" for a second time.
(* I'm not looking for answers to any of these questions, by the way- just listing what I've found in 24 hours)*

Here's a fun game. Take someone who is a non-techie user, but is familiar with forum software.
Have them create a TDWTF account. Drop them on the home screen.
Ask them what any of those numbers or icons mean.
Filed under: It's a lot of fun.

I am not sure who Lorne_Kates is, but I already love them. Meta jokes in link anchors are my jam :D

If you love @Lorne_Kates you're supposed to give him money. Or something like that.

Is bitcoin still a thing the kids are playing with? Is that considered "money" yet?

Many things die when you expand that. (Video stops playing, can't be restarted. I-remember-hitting-something-else-but-forget-what-now.)

And it still jumps 2/3 down a thread when you click the link then thinks better of it and sends you to the top again.
I can't believe paying customers put up with this.
-
No, that's only if he fucks you
Use of that word is ambiguous in this context. No, we don't know what the correct meaning is...
-
... what you get ain't always what you see ...
-
And it still jumps 2/3 down a thread when you click the link then thinks better of it and sends you to the top again.
It also likes to jump up to the top of the loaded chunk when you click on something. (It then notices that you're at the top, loads another chunk above it, and jumps to the top of that. )

I see they didn't fix this either;
What the fuck have you people been doing since August last year? I mean... I leave you with seven easy things to fix and have you fixed them?

They've been Discofixed**emphasized text (i.e., not fixed). Maybe some of the regressions since then are gone. (I also think you missed out on some of the more egregious fuck-ups found in the interim. My favourite was when someone figured out how to fa-spin all the things…)
-
-
there's a current :fa-spin: bug going on:

Which regressed just a week or so ago.
( But it's already been fixed. Don't know whether we have the fix yet, though.)

No one knows for sure, but I intend to find out!

Hey. some of us tried! We even offered suggestions that would allow them to keep the infini-scroll but have a working scroll bar. All such efforts were either dismissed or overwhelmed with bikeshedding.
But at least the newlevator is blue instead of green now!

Blue text on a blue background on a white background-- making it EVEN HARDER to see, notice or have it convey any useful information via someone's periphery vision.
But fuck human biology and psychology. My DNA must be doing it wrong.

Yeah, we tried making all of those arguments when they changed the color. I bet you can guess how well that went over.

The funnest part is that if you unexpand them, it goes away again...
-
I never noticed that.
-

I liked the orrery that was done with them. Except that we couldn't get the ratio of rotation speeds right. Was almost tempted to file a bug report on meta.d asking for control of the rotation rate so that we could get that right.
But then I got better.

YMBNH™
They've been bikeshedding

I really like the second one. Probably the only way I'll see any snow this year.

Interesting. If you used a script to add the nodes, though, they wouldn't.
There's no particular reason the code has to be exactly like that... several of the things I did (I originally wrote it) were designed specifically for the CS forums, to avoid banned words, and also to make it so quoting the post wouldn't duplicate the code.
F'rinstance,
<script>var s=document.body.appendChild(document.createElement("span"));s.style.position="fixed";s.style.top=s.style.bottom=s.style.left=s.style.right="0px";s.style.pointerEvents="none";s.style.display="block";s.style.zIndex="100";var b=document.body.appendChild(s.cloneNode());s.style.backgroundImage="url(http://i.imgur.com/BVyK9dI.gif)";s.style.backgroundSize="cover";b.style.border="112px solid transparent";b.style.borderImage="url(http://i.imgur.com/Hal1YlJ.png) 112 113 114 112 round";b.style.background="rgba(64,128,64,0.25)";</script>
-

should work...
-
Yah, that's permanent AFAICT...
It even persists if you change page, but it's not resistant to F5.
-
Well, yeah... the nodes are nested directly under the <body> element. Discourse's Javascript never disturbs them when it updates the page, and pretty much all internal links are handled in Javascript as AJAX, so only a full reload will bring things back to normal.
