@anotherusername So, basically, everyone's just fine with minors being charged as pedophiles because they sexted their equally minor girl-/boyfriend.
You guys really have a problem with this whole sex stuff.
It's an American tradition!

Release Date: September 13, 2017
For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
Contact: 202-282-8010WASHINGTON – After careful consideration of available information and consultation with interagency partners, Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke today issued a Binding Operational Directive (BOD) directing Federal Executive Branch departments and agencies to take actions related to the use or presence of information security products, solutions, and services supplied directly or indirectly by AO Kaspersky Lab or related entities.
The BOD calls on departments and agencies to identify any use or presence of Kaspersky products on their information systems in the next 30 days, to develop detailed plans to remove and discontinue present and future use of the products in the next 60 days, and at 90 days from the date of this directive, unless directed otherwise by DHS based on new information, to begin to implement the agency plans to discontinue use and remove the products from information systems.
This action is based on the information security risks presented by the use of Kaspersky products on federal information systems. ...
Honestly, I'm somewhat surprised it wasn't already banned.

Under Texas' version of the law, if a young adult over the age of 17 has consensual sexual relations with someone under the age of 17, but at least 15 years old, with no more than a four-year age difference between the two, the new law will not require the older party to register as a sex offender if convicted of statutory rape.

@luhmann I am astonished that someone managed to paint such a huge mural without being noticed. It's not like it's a small painting that can be made in two minutes, this one covers a whole fricking building side, at least 4 floors judging from the picture! How fast can street artists paint??
-
@remi said in In other news today...:
to paint such a huge murals
there are several of these things ...
article in Dutch you get the important info: it has a map of Brussels and where to find what painting.

if a street artist would paint streets?

Impressive... Some of them clearly reuse a lot of existing paintings (number 4 is clearly based on an old "Zanussi" ad... that's a liquorice candy, I think), or are rather crudely made, but still. I can't imagine how they could do that quickly enough so that nobody noticed them. Even in the night, even assuming they found a way onto the roof to climb down from there...

@luhmann Oh, yeah. I mixed that with... mmm, now I can't remember what, actually. Probably "zan", which is a liquorice brand, although that's quite a different name.

In case anyone misunderstands what that originally was: that used to be the folk advice for the ideal age for a wedding: The woman should be half the age plus 7 of the man. In recent years, I have seen young folks think it was the greatest difference in age for a man and a woman to date.

Seriously, I think that's just so perfect. For the male homosexuals, at least, though I am sure plenty of lesbians - armed with toys, dental dams, and finger cots - like to hang out by the back door too.
And me, too. Definitely for me.

Yeah, fuck this guy.
He robbed a Starbucks at gun and knifepoint. A bystander sees it and clubs him with a chair, takes his knife and stabs him. Robber gets knife back and stabs Samaritan who intervened. Now he is suing the guy who beat him up and stopped the robbery.
This better be thrown out.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, there's a problem:

It's possible the courts won't view that kindly.

Unless you have another article, that one just says he is thinking about it. His mom thinks he should as well.

Even in California it is unlikely to matter. Especially as the proposed suit is for excessive force. After the force was applied the robber still managed to turn the tables on the bystander and stab him back. Pretty hard to argue that it was excessive if he was still able to retaliate.
In most states, even ambulance chasing lawyers will laugh at the guy.

My thoughts on the matter also. If the guy tried to run and then was tackled to the ground and stabbed, that would be one thing. But he never gave up, never tried to comply. He was trying to kill the fellow.

Near home, it's men who provide ample evidence of being too stupid to
breathedrive. The craziest are the idiots on quadbikes without helmets, trying to do 60mph over speed bumps in a 30mph limit area. Not one, not two, not three but (at least) four different types of idiotic in one!

I just watched a girl riding her bike to school with no helmet. And actively texting on her phone.
-
@dcon I once watched a kid on a vespa-style scooter. He was veering all over the place and I couldn't see why until he got closer. He was actively texting with both hands and occasionally reaching down to steady the handlebars. At 20+ mph. And no helmet. Moron.
