You live in Oregon?
Sure, the leadership in that store was practically looking for a reason to fire him, that doesn't mean all stores would react that way. I suspect corporate got wind of this and that's why they later tried to get him back.

even with saline water the skin resistance does not drop enough for 5 Volts to be able to drive a dangerous amount of current through your body
Randall Munroe said it's harder to electrocute something in salt water, because the current's more inclined to flow through the water than the victim.

Lioness appears to adopt leopard cub:
Unfortunately the rest of the pride are unlikely to accept the leopard, so hopefully the real mother is somewhere around and they will be reunited. Not sure how likely that is. (I almost put this in the cute thread but it ends on a bit of a downer so didn't seem quite appropriate.)

@pjh I'd always known Somerset as a byword for keep-it-in-the-family fun, but apparently it's slipped to third place

That art isn't worth $200,000. Further, what kind of idiot designs a display that be destroyed that easily. I get one of the pedestals falling over, as the lady falls into it, but they can't be that heavy, so to domino like that is just piss poor design. Oh right, it is probably part of the "art"
-
Here's an idea: ANCHOR THE PEDESTALS TO THE FLOOR YOU MUPPETS.
-
@raceprouk Here's another idea: if it needs installation instructions, it isn't art.

@raceprouk dead, ancient font isn't supported by most modern PCs. News at 11.
It's not "the writing system", not the one that they use anyway -- outside of a few isolated tribes.
-
@anotherusername It's not the one they use now, but it used to be. And it's not like Baybayin's a big script to add to Unicode.
-
@raceprouk but it's not emojis therefore 'no-one' gives a flying...

Over a hundred years ago, according to the Wiki ("late 19th century").
Anyway, it does have Unicode code points... there just aren't many fonts that support them.

It was opposed by nearby residents who cited issues of [...] property value.
I would have thought improved/decent cell coverage would have a positive effect on property value. (I'm presuming, of course, that there are no other masts in the area, otherwise the 'aesthetics' argument wouldn't hold water either.)
-
I'm not sure how wide an area "the district" covers, but according to the article
there are already has [sic] 49 telecommunication towers in the district.

It was opposed by nearby residents who cited issues of health
There is ZERO EVIDENCE cellphone towers cause ill health. Can we finally bury this technophobe bullshit already?
aesthetics
Then make it pretty. It's not hard.

You mean they don't want the value of their houses to go up?
