@Bulb And also a link to an actual news site, which had the other kind of gem:
NAV Canada, the country’s air navigation service provider, had not been notified about the YRP drone, Transport Canada said.
The cause of the collision is not known.
Say, you don't think those 2 sentences are kinda conflicting, do you?
-
@acrow Not necessarily. The Buttonville (CYKZ) airport is class-E, which means that while the airport is towered, the tower only controls the runway itself, but NORDO traffic is allowed in the vicinity. So NAV Canada did not necessarily need to be notified.
And even if they were, without something tracking the exact position of the drone they probably wouldn't be able to do much about it anyway.
That said, the cause is sort of known: failure of the drone operator or their assistant to monitor for other traffic (the pilot is also responsible to watch for other traffic, but a drone is too small for them to notice in time to avoid it). But that's fairly crude determination of cause. It's enough to determine liability, but not really enough to learn useful lessons from.

It really is getting to the stage where we should ban hardware manufactures from writing software. I still don't understand why I can't just install the latest amd driver and not the garbage they package with it without jumping through hoops. My favourite was part of a mouses' physical functionality being disabled without an internet connection.

@DogsB My comment from the other thread, to partially answer the question "why":
Why would mice install drivers over Windows' default? Because by default windows filters mouse movements with a heavy hand, to make the cheapest office mice seem less crap. But it makes gaming feel like driving with a steering column made out of rubber. For a crisp mousing experience, a lot of hacking away useless crust is needed. And some mice try and do that in their driver package. </rant>

Just putting this here because I know some of this forum's users spend too long a time fondling their nut pile wondering if they've any M6 left.
I got tired of not finding m6 nuts and bolts when I need one so I bought a bucket of it.

So to "hack away useless crust", you need to download a driver the size of Windows 95? Makes sense.

driver
The real required bits of the driver is probably just an INF file or two to tell Windows to stop being stupid, but there's probably an Electron app to
display advertsprovide a user experience which then communicates with a node server that contains the code two switch around the INF files. And there's probably something also to set the RGB LEDs in some models of the supported mice.

Hey, there is a world of difference between a Cessna and a Cessna. Can't you mention which Cessna?
It turns out it is still rather exceptional reportership as they did include a link to an official summary, which does identify the aircraft properly (as a C172N).
There's a default Cessna. The one featured in GTA.

One might see the glass as more than half full: the fact that only 40 per cent of generated examples exhibited security-level problems means that the majority of Copilot suggestions should work well enough.
Sure, if your bar is "your Tesla only crashes into a 40% of the time."

Indeed, seems like a perfect way to automate 90% of developers.

Old iPhones become faster if you change the region to France. Perhaps, Apple still reduces the performance of its devices to save battery
As someone whose iPhone is nearing 6 years of age (don’t need a mobile phone if you never leave the house ) and with the second battery completely shot1, I’d rather stick with them reducing power draw if necessary. Idiotic outrage.
1 Battery status says maximum capacity is 81%, which is a lie.

@Applied-Mediocrity FWIW, I remember seeing it too (I think it was a different article about the same person/event), but I don't remember what thread it was in, either.

The performance management can also be disabled within settings on the phone without needing to be in France.
TFA doesn't mention this or do a performance comparison between On, Off and French to confirm if there's a difference between the latter two or not.
