Just in case you didn't deliberately do that, did you can know you can re-mark notifications as unread by clicking the little circle thing?

@Tsaukpaetra I did not. But now that I do... I probably won't need it anyway.

@Parody I assume that’s just cargo culting. People are idiots, but there’s no way any significant fraction is too stupid to know that 499.99 isn’t basically the same as 500. That’s just sales people optimizing for a case that happened once a decade.
This news article talks about a study where $(x-1).99 prices garnered 8% more sales than $x.00 ones on the same items. (It's one of the links in the Wikipedia article.)

Some people do think that way, looking at only the leftmost digit. I round prices up when looking at them.

@Zenith Frontier, Xfinity, Time Warner, Verizon, and Milwaukee PC get away with that all the time. Two of them even in your state, despite toothless AG investigations. Why should Foxconn be any different?

Apparently the workers felt threatened when the sheep charged.
Anyone who thinks this is a laughing matter has never raised sheep. There's a reason why they took a piece of siege weaponry for charging and destroying heavy doors and named it after the ram!

@TwelveBaud What's the other besides Comcast (presumably referring to paying no property tax on their "headquarters" in Philly thanks to Special Ed)? I've started to lose track of all the corporate welfare and outright fraud that goes on here.

@Zenith Comcast and Verizon accepting a couple billion dollars a year from federal and state government in exchange for providing broadband access to various communities -- some of the money is earmarked for buildouts to rural homes, some for connecting 100% of homes in a certain area, some is for repairing damaged lines and upgrading speeds to 25-megabit-plus -- and the ISPs accepting the money and going "Eh.

Werking...
Is this some kind of weird Anglo-American nominative determinism?
-
@GOG No, "werking" is not American slang for anything, or even a proper English word. In this case, it's just the person's name.

a court made the ground-breaking ruling that animals are not, in fact, "persons."
I’m curious how exactly the court phrased this, because otherwise it could be a groundbreaking revelation for humans and “freemen” alike…

@GOG
If he'd been a "T. Werking", you might have a case. But it was a "David"?...
-
@acrow You've got to open your mind, Grasshopper.
There exists an American word that ends with "-erking" and an English word that begins with "w-" that seem nominatively appropriate for someone with $25k worth of porn. It's curiously satisfying.

The "What can Brown do for you?" slogan takes a new meaning...
Too bad they got rid of it. Probably because, you know, brown.

@Tsaukpaetra It was a shitty slogan, not just because of brown, but the whole slogan was not very good

Is it better or worse than "Where do you want to go today?"

The local energy company had to cut power to a couple hundred customers to allow the fine folks at Sacramento Metro Fire to come to his rescue. But we're sure those customers didn't mind because Californians are used to having their power cut off, right?
