As a member of the Millennial Generation (in fact, one of the oldest), I have a question for all the other generations that heap scorn on us:
What the fuck is wrong with avocados?
Maybe they're seen as wasteful for needing to be just ripened enough but not too much?
Obviously someone who really likes them wouldn't get to that second point, but those few times I had advocado around it turned out to have gone bad.
Filed under: I might be born in the 80's but I don't need advocado

@mzh They're relatively expensive is all.

Not much. They're inoffensive but a bit greasy. Great for guacamole or chopped into a salad (along with plenty of lettuce, etc.)
But there are things that people do with them that are Just Plain Wrong™…

It looks like this was a few years ago:
He was arrested in 2013 on charges of prescribing chemotherapy to patients who were either perfectly healthy or whose condition did not warrant chemotherapy, then submitting $34 million in fraudulent charges to Medicare and private health insurance companies over a period of at least six years. He pleaded guilty in 2014 to charges of health care fraud, conspiring to pay and receive kickbacks, and money laundering. On July 10, 2015, he was sentenced to 45 years in federal prison.
Thank $deity they ended that quackery.
Shame they couldn't sentence him to chemotherapy -- for the rest of his chemically filled and shortened life.
-
@mzh They're un-called-for

Nothing specifically, though I personally don't like them at all. But putting avocado in everything has become a real fad and it's being done very much to excess.
If you like avocados you probably don't notice it as much, but when you don't like them and you can rule out two thirds of the menu in a café just on that one basis, it's gone a bit too far.

@topspin Don't worry, you can still tell it's an Apple because there's no USB ports, only USB-C ports.
USB-C is the first fekkin usb-port that's actually half decently designed, so I can see why they'd go with that one.
MagSafe was the only decently designed power connector, and they replaced it anyway.
I are agree. Double plus good magsafe. But it didn't do data transfer, so there was still a bit of development to do there.
I would guess that they replaced it due to manufacturing costs. Not to forget that silly users breaking the USB-C ports by yanking the cable out through an accident might also mean higher sales.
Well, yes. But all these problems exist with every other data transfer port type as well, so it's not like its worse than anything with similar capabilities.
Which is why you don't use a data transfer port for your primary means of powering the device, which is susceptible to sudden unexpected disconnection prior to extended time periods of connection?

I had to look it up, a duck boat is an amphibious truck with possibly a canopy. These things really weren't meant for stormy weather and high waves...

Supposedly Apple removes diagnostic software the easily displays an obvious shortcoming of reusing designs. Or something.

Anything is better than the supposedly edible stuff with the texture of a cheap mattress that passes for "bread" in most burgers. Avocado isn't exactly high on the list of things I'd replace it with, but still: anything.

I know a few that use actual bread and that's where I eat. These are few and far between though, hence "most burgers".

Good news! Edit: wait, you don't like the taste of coffee? :mockingly_horrified:
The beneficial results were found across coffee types – including ground, instant and decaffeinated coffee. Meaning, you don’t have to get the jitters at all if you are sensitive to caffeine. The benefits, researchers believe, are from the antioxidant-rich bean itself, not the caffeine.

So far so good. I actually feel tired at a reasonable hour. Last night I was in bed by 10:15.
Plus I was way over the 3 cans of pop worth of caffeine a therapist told me to limit myself to help keep anxiety more in check.

You missed my comment about decaf. I don't like the taste of coffee. Decaf is for people who like the taste but don't want the caffeine.

One of my favorite bits in the Simpsons:
(Convenience store owner shows Lisa a secret doorway)
Lisa: "There's a secret passage in the non-alcoholic beer section?"
Apu: "Yeah."
Lisa: "What happens if someone wants a non-alcoholic beer?"
Apu shrugs: "It's never come up."
-
@mikehurley Yes I did miss it initially. You might have missed my amendment.
It's either a personal taste kind of thing or perhaps you just haven't tasted the kind of coffee that works for you.
Either way, I'm not going to tell you to drink coffee. You do you.

Although those who say they have more energy overall are full of crap. I've been trying this about once a year for a few years and I've never felt better being off caffeine (except for bedtime). I've also never felt worse. I feel the same.
Maybe I'll actually stay off it this time. Usually what happens is I have a bad night's sleep and have some and then the habit comes right back. Especially if problems go on for a few days.

The MBP charger connector comes out of the USB-C port almost as easily as Magsafe. I've tripped over mine several times without even moving the laptop.
Magsafe was better as it would disconnect if something dropped vertically on the connector but replacing it is not as bad a thing as it's made out to be. Plus the USB-C lets you plug the charger in either side.

: "About how many cups of coffee do you have a day?"
: thinks about it "Probably around eight to twelve?"

@hardwaregeek There's a "hot question" on StackOverflow from a refreshingly naive person asking, "did they REALLY saw early Christians in half?"
Yes. Yes they did that and every cruel act you could possibly imagine a human being doing for thousands of years. The modern era is defined by the industrial revolution but also by the fact that people are horribly cruel to each other anymore. And when they are, they feel bad about it much of the time.

A mayor in Southern California says he wants to ban workplace dress codes that require wearing neckties, with the mayor claiming the fashion accessory restricts blood flow to the brain.
If your necktie is uncomfortably tight, the problem is not the tie. Your shirt collar is too small or, if you're tying the tie tighter than your collar, your problem is a few inches above the collar.

It's a common misconception. What they're really trying to stop is any sort of creativity and independent thought reaching your brain. Stopping the blood flow is just a side effect.
