That was quite a journey.
That site is as close to the psychedelic experience that you can have without actually using psychedelics.

It's missing some good music ...

Mike Pinkerton, a former developer with Netscape, and previous "owner" of the Camino project, told me that Mozilla had a contest among its developers as to what would be the name of the successor to the Mozilla Application Suite, The name "ButtMonkey" won, but too many employees complained, so SeaMonkey was chosen instead. Given that kind of legacy, FoxYeah seems rather subtle.
Less obviously, their internal imaging processing library is called libPron.

Gee, after ButtMonky, they get all delicate about PornoLib?

Before Netscape opened the source for Mozilla, they put some major effort into cleaning up the source code. Prior to the cleanup, they even had obscenities directed at clients in the comments.

Such professional! Much wow!
No wonder some people decided to COMPLAIN!

In their defense, the programmers could not have anticipated that the source code would be released to the public. Nothing like that had ever been done before, by any company.

Still not a good idea to be unprofessional like that. A manager might decide to look and get offended…

I use an extension for Chrome that quietly unloads background tabs I haven't been to for a while
That's, like, something people want?
Metro IE does that, and it just serves to annoy me when it needs to reload tabs just because I opened some links in new ones.
Its history caching is a bit wonky too - most of the time, it seems to save a screenshot, so you drag back, all happy that the page is still waiting for you, and then it reloads anyway.

natural scrolling
That's a load of bullshit. A trackpad is not a phone screen, a "magic mouse" or whatever it is Apple are calling their mices these days is not a phone screen, If I'm scrolling down on a mouse, it's because I want to scroll down FFS

Your quote of me is missing my quote marks, which were there for a reason. You made me sound like I'm in favour of that concept.
To be clear, I think it's stupid as well, but I'm all for it being an option. As long as I can set it to whatever the hell I want.

You gotta love it how easy quote mining is with Discourse. Mission accomplished, Jeff. Mission accomplished.

Gotta love how a platform engineered to encourage civilised discourse makes it easier than ever to troll people

Do you remember frames? Do you remember scrolling in frames? It was shit because you always had to click into the frame you wanted to scroll in... It was awful but at least it made sense.
Haha...Windows. I hate that I have to click on stuff in Windows to scroll. Perhaps the second biggest annoyance when I have to Windows.
-
Edit: hmmm... I wonder what happens when I try to onebox Ling's Cars...
Aside from the hard coded list (whatever that is and which you cannot change) we have a local whitelist for sites that are allowed to onebox.
-
No, the first one is lack of Alt-dragging. Sheesh.
Also, unrelated, I swear HexChat messes with my primary selection, the amount of times where I pasted the wrong thing is starting to get way past funny.
-
-
We can debate the key, but the main thing is that Windows doesn't even have the setting to fight over.
-
No, the first one is lack of Alt-dragging. Sheesh.
No, not for me. That's probably fourth, though IIRC, Windows now has ways to maximize vertically only now, so maybe 3rd if I ever remember how that workds.

VMWare screws with my clipboard something furious.

Yeah...you always get..."Just install this 3rd party thing!" Which isn't practical (and often not possible) for every random machine you touch. It's just like...fuck...I hear about how MS is all about the usability, but they haven't clued in on these great things. I'm sure at least some of it is backward compatibility.
-
But... who would ever need that? Or "always on top"?
-
-
Perhaps the second biggest annoyance when I have to Windows.
Buy a Logitech mouse, install their custom drivers, get much greater control over what middle-clicking does?
ETA:
<--- what the heck is that? "Behance"? Also, why is it cropped?

Oh geez...now I have to buy new hardware‽
-

Don't break the bank on that mouse.
Although you might be able to just use the drivers without a Logitech™-brand rodent.

Some applications (Task Manager, VLC) offer that in a menu ...
Exactly. Meaning the window manager is perfectly capable of doing it. But it's not something that's accessible through the generic context menu.
-
Which, AFAIK, the WM *can* do, there's just no way for you to set it for a window on your own
I believe you do it by creating the window with the correct class. Or something like that. It's a bit of a hack.
-
I will - once again - direct focus on the third party app Preme for Windows which gives you the following options:
Filed Under: not sure what you want to do with the middle mouse button in your abbr-tab, tbh

Oh put Ling on it, please please please
-
hmm... i may have to try this....
-
I got it a whilte back because "Always on top" is a feature that windows for some reason doesn't deliver out the box...
I rarely use the other features but they are nice to have.Addendum: Don't let the pink color scare you, btw. I don't know why the designers thought that was a good color!
-
Always on top
I'm sure most of us have read this before, but What if two programs did it?
-

i use autohotkey myself.
^!SPACE:: Winset, Alwaysontop, , A
using that rule CTRLALTSPACE toggles always on top. and since i use it for a bunch of other things (like V to launch a new instance of visual studio) it works well enough. most of the time.
-
programs setting always on top on themselves automatically is EVIL, a program that toggles always on top in response to a specific user input is useful!
-
Presumably the last one to have set it takes precedence over any previous always on top windows
-
that's my experience, yes.
or to be more precise the window with the higher Z-index is on top if multiple windows set always on top. same as for windows without always on top
Besides it's no fun having a windows that's always on top. bottom is fun too!
INB4 giggity
-
but What if two programs did it?
I know you are not really bashing on the AOT-principle... but I honestly don't care about what happens if two intersecting windows are both always on top. I am pretty sure Windows could simply have 2 drawing layers for their windows if they really cared, calling one "top"-layer and one "bottom" layer. Windows on the top-layer are always over the bottom layer but have their own hirachy on the top layer.
Problem solved? At least my usecases are 100% covered by that. And it makes sense in my opinion.
And, as far as I can tell, most AOT-programs mimick exactly that behaviour.... So take that as you will.
Filed Under: didn't really read that article, btw. I am lazy today!
-
what happens if two intersecting windows are both always on top.
Microsoft could've explained the situation with a draw mode where what goes to the screen is the or of the two windows.
-
I swear HexChat messes with my primary selection
Settings -> turn off Copy highlighted text
-
Damn it! Is that what's doing it? Thanks.
-
I believe you do it by creating the window with the correct class. Or something like that.
Something like that. An extended style bit: WS_EX_TOPMOST. SetWindowPos() can also be used.
-
Don't let the pink color scare you, btw. I don't know why the designers thought that was a good color!
Obviously another program that knows better than you/windows what the proper coloring should be.
Oh fuck. We resemble that remark.
-
programs setting always on top on themselves automatically is EVIL
I'm looking at you Adobe... I really can continue doing work while your shitty installer is running.
