Classy start page from the ever-so-professional Mozilla developers.

You, Sir, are TRWTF.
Every proper TDWTFer would make this site their start page.
And every normal Firefox user would make Firefox reload the tabs from last session!

It's such a shame that my favorite C++-replacement programming language will be forever associated with this bunch of utter morons...

FoxYeah
I don't get it.

You're not supposed to "get" it; you're supposed to spam it everywhere without thinking.
-
Mission failure then.

I have several ideas for memes already - though I'm too graphically impaired to actually make any of these:
- Obama-like red-blue poster with Firefox logo and "FOXYEAH" caption
- CSI "Yeeeeeaaaaahhhh" image with text "#FOXYEAHHHH"
- Grumpy Fox captioned with "NO"
- foxnope.avi
Let's see if I can find any of these in a week's time...

We're still more normal than those weird people who use Sleipnir ...

But less normal than people who use Opera. Which was unbelievable just few short years ago.

Well, that must mean I'm not a "normal" user...smarter than that. I have ways to reload sites I want in a hurry.
I have no idea how many times I've had to shut my browser down because some a$$h*l's adware went into a loop (or maybe they were loading the Library of Congress from some yurt in Mongolia).
The last thing I need is a browser--any browser--that reopens ill-behaved pages automatically.
-
Dunno about Firefox, but when Chrome actually crashes, it opens to a screen that essentially says "Chrome did not shut down correctly. Do you still want to restore all your tabs?"
-
yeah, Firefox does that. You can get to that screen manually by putting
about:sessionrestore
into your adressbar.
From there you can deselect any tab you don't want to reload.Firefox also loads slow enough to just close the tab before it goes into a loop.... So thats also good!
Filed Under: One of the few instances where a slow browser is actually good :D
-
I use an extension for Chrome that quietly unloads background tabs I haven't been to for a while, so my tab restore is PDQ -- one or two tabs and a whole bunch of copies of "tab unloaded, click to reload".
-
I must also be abnormal - my start page is actually the 'new tab' screen, with several key sites, including this one, pinned.
-

that's a FEATURE now?
-
That's a good idea, too ... if you use "New Tab Tools".

My kids keep playing this video to learn English: "what the fox said"

When the new crappy Opera is the only one that can delay loading of background tabs without an extension you start giving up on the dream of a good browser ever existing again...

That song's not in English.

Thats default in Firefox afaik.
I wanted to see if it even had the option to load everything at once... which it has... but it also changed it's whole settings-layout... So I dunno how long the option has been there.
Sidenote: Whats up with everybody putting their options into a whole website-lookalike? Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the fact that non websites open in my webbrowser? (looking at you, Opera download-page...)
-

It is? I don't remember it being like that. Then again, been a while since I started FF with more than one tab open...

That's the WebKit way, I guess. And Opera devs became lazy and just copied stuff from Chrome.
Honestly, the only reasons I still use Opera specifically is mouse gestures and speed dial still somewhat working. Other than that, it's a skin for Chrome, really.
-
I don't remember it being like that.
It's been that way since quite a while ago.... like a few years at least. I don't even remember how pleasantly suprised I was when it randomly started working that way and my firefox loaded faster.
The new options-dialog on the other hand.... HOLY SHIT!
So, let me rant here for a second:
Do you remember frames? Do you remember scrolling in frames? It was shit because you always had to click into the frame you wanted to scroll in... It was awful but at least it made sense.
Here comes the new generation of JS.
Nowadays websites don't give a shit about your position in your browser.- Discourse loads and unloads shit like whenever it feels like it (I am not even all that mad about that because:)
- Websites with custom JS-Scrollbars that DO NOT RECOGNIZE me pressing the Down-arrow (because using a scrollwheel on a laptop is totally a legit thing.. NOT)
- Websites like the new option menu on Firefox WHO FUCKING CATCHES MY "down-arrow" input AND USES IT TO NAVIGATE THE FUCKING CATEGORIES. ARGHGHLG...
I am probably overreacting here and tomorrow the world will look better and shit but seriously? I know I am not browsing my options that much but if you give me a scrollbar, I FUCKING EXPECT YOU TO HONOR MY USAGE OF DOWN-ARROW!!!!!!!
addendum: If you select the advance category and then click any of the sub-category tabs it starts scrolling with the arrow keys... WELL FUCKING DONE!
-
delay loading of background tabs without an extension
I don't know about that because I don't close my browser unless there's an update (it's my email client as well, and I don't want to miss email notifications), but my dhromebook regularly runs out of memory if I'm browsing too much Discourse and it unloads the other tabs I have open until I switch to them.
-
I was specifically talking about startup, not having tabs opened all the time.

Well, nowadays, you're supposed to smartphone scroll with the touchpad.
-
I propose we call scrolling on a smartphone "smudging".
Because that is, effectively, what you do to your screen...
-
I meant the two-finger gesture.
As opposed to the move-your-finger-along-the-right-edge-of-the-touchpad way of scrolling that laptops had about 10 years ago already.
-
I use the old method, still. Habit, I guess. Tried the other way, even tried using "natural scrolling" (AKA reverse all the things). Didn't like it.
-
You're not supposed to like it - you're supposed to be shamed into using it.
-
I have forced the edge scroll on my Linux install, no idea if it's even possible to do on Win8.1 ...
-
It was shit because you always had to click into the frame you wanted to scroll in... It was awful but at least it made sense.
On linux, the scroll wheel applies to the window/control under the cursor, rather than the selected window/control. It's one of the main usability advantages of linux over windows IMO.
-
Preme for Windows gives you that setting on a windows box.

Now you reminded me that I have to find where to turn off focusing the window when I do that on XFCE. I'm used to scrolling not changing my focus and I sometimes use it to scroll a window below the current one without having to set the current one to "always on top".
-
Well, nowadays, you're supposed to smartphone scroll with the touchpad.
Or use the touchscreen.

As an Adblock Plus user, I see ill-behaved pages rarely enough that I honestly don't recall the last time I was bothered by one.

So you only reply to the forums using email?

Wasn't counting Dicksauce as a web page. It's more like a web page's drunken uncle.
Edit: hmmm... I wonder what happens when I try to onebox Ling's Cars...
Heh... Discocretion appears to be the better part of valour. I do like her new background graphic though. Well, new to me anyway; this might well be my first visit to that site on this 1920x1200 screen I've only had for a year.

onebox Ling's Cars...
I don't think a mere onebox would be enough for that. Or even a single earthly browser.
