Maybe by Windows 13, they figure out how to run service processes without opening console windows.

Depends on how much ransom you pay Microsoft to keep your data where you left it.

The only business users Microsoft care about are the ones paying for Enterprise.

They must be about to seriously miss an earnings call. All kinds of crazy shit is going on in Microsoft at the moment. From mass firings to xbox being gutted, something major is happening.

The only services that show console windows are services configured to do so, it's more likely that the company you work for have stuff configured in Task Scheduler to run on user login that runs as the user.

Why do they even bother? At this point, for non-business users, just install it without even asking. They clearly don't care anyway.
I recall there was a court case here with the 7-10 upgrade. Microsoft interpreted closing the popup as permission to upgrade, the user and the judge disagreed.

Considering that Server recentl-ish got pushed Azure bullshit in a bundled update (so that you couldn't even WSUS it out), I'm thinking if they care at all, it's about the ones paying for Azure.

My impression is that they care most for those who think that they can get free services at Azure - and make them pay for minimal mistakes.
Just look at my globally redundant high-availabilty database with 1 table and 4 rows comprising less than 1 kb of data at $5,000 per year (ok, billed hourly, so it did not get such expensive for me...)

Is it really that complicated, Redmond, to figure out what updates I need that you need a process running a full CPU core for coming up to two minutes to work out?

Yes, because it has to work around all the registry entries you've tried to set in order to opt out of updates
-
@izzion if, and I have to qualify hypothetically speaking, if, that had happened, I'd understand it.

I don't know if I want to blame the fact that this laptop has clearly been dropped or had something dropped on it (cracked screen) or drivers, but there definitely be a problem...

I hate to concede it but windows 10 wasn’t god awful until about 2022. I was running with object dock stuff and xplorer2 though so I didn’t have to touch anything Microsoft too frequently. It was about then that shit would start breaking randomly. Defaults would change. Oneseive wouldn’t sync. Updates would break object dock. Drivers would need reinstall. Random 100% utilization for everything.
It's getting so bad that Linux desktop usage is seeing a consistent uptick.

It feels like every version of Windows is first hated, then grudgingly accepted, then desperately clung to as a newer version appears.
The kind interpretation is that every version starts shittier than the previous, mature one, and gradually improves during its life cycle.
The less kind interpretation is the same but stops before "and."
