@cartman82 Stupid and fragile though 3.5mm TRRS plugs may be, they stay put more securely than Lightning plugs. I would expect Lightning earphones to be annoyingly prone to accidental disconnection if used on the move.

I read somewhere that 3.5mm plug is like the oldest cable format still in use. Over 100 years old or something.
-
@cartman82 That sounds like a Ken M "fact", though I would not be at all surprised to find that 6.35mm tip-and-sleeve is about that old.
Edit: in fact the quarter inch version is well over 100 years old.

Hey, I still have stuff with that large one somewhere around the house. Cool to think you could take a 19 centurty steam punk thing and, with a little converter, plug it into your iPhone.
Well, for a several more months, at least.

@flabdablet You could just not buy shitty Apple crap. Alternative strategy.

[The Pac-Man Dossier](http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3938/the_pacman_dossier.php?print=1)
In case you didn't know it yet. There's a surprising amound of depth to the game - my attempt to create an arcade-perfect port based on this spec has taken a good two weeks, a lot of caffeine, and the bloody thing still has a bug where ghosts will start spazzing around in the ghost house with no way to leave it.
-
@Maciejasjmj I think he was bragging with the 2 weeks thing. It doesn't look like much time to write a good pacman clone.

Heh.
How can I make nested quotes expand by default without resorting to a code block?
userstyle.
-
Okay, everyone! Start using a userstyle that expands inner quotes so I don't have to use workarounds on my posts.
-
@Maciejasjmj is that 'actual two weeks' or 'programmer two weeks'?

Oh Microsoft, Microsoft... what are you doing?

XNA makes things really retardedly simple as far as the actual "game" portion is concerned. The logic, though... oh dear.

Solid work, actually. Well, as solid as a side after-hours project can get.

Come up with or convince someone else to come up with a CSS / less change that will keep them open then convince the admins to include it in the site customizations.

The URL wasn't on its own line, therefore no onebox .
People complained when random URLs oneboxed in the middle of a paragraph.

I got fed up of Windows Event Viewer being so slow (Win 7) and found a workaround here:

iOS only.
When you grant full account access, the application can see and modify nearly all information in your Google Account
Let me be clear - Pokemon Go and Niantic can now:
- Read all your email
- Send email as you
- Access all your Google drive documents (including deleting them)
- Look at your search history and your Maps navigation history
- Access any private photos you may store in Google Photos
- And a whole lot more

Isn't it great how easy it is to social engineer nowadays?
Maybe that's why their servers are broken so much: they're downloading all the Google profile data and can't keep up with the badwidth!

Free MS books
Microsoft gives away a bunch of free e-books. Most of them are just some internal manuals and reference cards, although there are some comercial-ish looking titles.
Also, there's this:
I guess this was published before the era of "leave your computer unattended for a few hours" methodology of W10 upgrades.

@cartman82 Wow, I literally had to scroll back and forth like three times before I could see the difference between his good and bad examples. Seriously? Wow.

- Install GWX Control Panel.
- Turn it on.
Done and done.

A humble test of Humble DRM-free Linux games
Guy tests around a 100 linux games from Humble Bundle and GoG. Trying to determine how a noob would fare getting them to work. The results are... underwhelming.
-
Or I had to jump trough some crazy hoops
Dude needs a proofreader bad. That's not the only time he messes up through, and there are plenty of where/were mixups too
-
@Yamikuronue Apparently he has a concept of "visual balance" he can't define or explain but expects everybody to use? I guess?
So this:
/* * Blah */
Is "visually balanced", while this:
/* Blah */
is not?
What the fuck ever.
-
@cartman82 Ok, I appreciate what he's doing, but a "noob" wouldn't be using a Clevo W840 SU. What the fuck is a "Clevo" laptop? Has anybody heard of that brand? Even Google has trouble locating it. I mean it looks ok I guess.
It was a matter of pride to help the Linux average stay as far above the Windows and Mac averages as possible.
Because...?
It sounds to me like a corporation convinced you to spend more money than you need to to engage in some pointless "competition" literally nobody else on Earth cares about. But hey, whatever.
Also who uses a touchscreen to play 10,000,000. Sheesh.

Also who uses a touchscreen to play 10,000,000. Sheesh.I guess it's his way to help convince publishers that linux users aren't all a bunch of pirates and cheapskates. It's kind of working, as I too have noticed that Linux average on Humble Bundle is above Mac and PC.
-
@cartman82 The average might be higher, but do you have any evidence that it's convincing publishers of anything whatsoever?
Anyway, the problem isn't that Linux users are all pirates and cheapskates (although they are), it's that they've created a software stack that's a fucking pain in the ass to develop for and a MEGA pain in the ass to distribute software to. Ain't nobody gonna port to a platform that takes 10 times the development effort for 1/10th the potential customers.
If you want to convince publishers to put their products on Linux, make it 5 times quicker and easier to make a Linux distribution than a Windows/Mac/Xbox/PS4 one. Then ensure their game will still run without changes or maintainence 10 years from now, like games on Windows/Mac/Xbox/PS4.

A lot games these days are being made multi platform from the ground up, so linux is sometimes included as the third platform. Either way, things are a lot better than back in the day, when all you had was tux and freeciv.
Admittedly, this is probably more due to Mac getting stronger and Steam's push, than anything linuxers might have done.
