So what you are saying is Jeff is literally Hitler?
Didn't I literally say just that?
-
I am pretty sure "not being allowed" and "being unable" are two different concepts
I am also pretty sure that if Discourse found a way to prevent people from posting TDWTF-Links automatically, people here would start breaking that functionality.
Filed Under:I don't really feel like I lied, really... so this is clearly a personal attack. ;P
-
I'm impressed. It's still up.
-
Just wait for Jeff to find it. It'll be jeffed.
-
Yeah. I bookmarked it.
-
-
Can't tell if discourse.org is down or if he banned my company's IP block like Hitler would.
-
discourse.org
Unfortunately it's still up and claiming that it provides
Civilized Discussion. On the Internet.

Jeff
noun
With all known facts, I would rewrite it as follows:
Jeff
Full name: Jeff Atwood, aka "codinghorror" (other condescending variations excluded for brevity)- Mystic co-founder of The Church of the Civilized Discourse Construction Kit ( TCotCDCK ) and Head-honcho Prophet, Jeff became infamous after converting the Lord of the Domain of WTF and several other sovereigns to his new social religion. In the process, he caused pagination believers to be outcast, leaving them no choice but to go into exile or abuse their scoll wheels. Those who keep using PHPBB, SMF or ($deity forbid) Community Server are now considered barbarians according to his disciples and anonymous Discophiles.
- Certain scholars have compared him to a certain deceased dictator who was bent on obtaining world power through conquest and genocide.1 2 3 No quantification in mega-hitlers has been made yet.
- Known to waffle on his own blog and jump the shark in the process. B****** considered this treason, but promised not to ask for an extradition order as long as he only travels between the 48 continous states.
- Co-founder of StackOverflow and personification of gamification, which might explain most of the weirder decisions behind Discourse.

Welp it looks like my corporate network is actually banned my cloudflare. Yay.

Full name: Jeff Atwood aka CodingHorror.
How can it be complete without mentioning his most famous glorious name?
-
/facepalm
Thanks, added it.

Do you work at Spammers'Я'Us, or something?
-
I took your suggestion and ran with it. What do you think of that definition now?
-
What do you think of that definition now?
Jeff's responses to facts and evidence include:
You left out deleting posts and banning users who disagree with him.
-
Someone (who genuinely wasn't me) managed to upset Google from our corporate network so that for a while, anyone (from a company of ~14000 employees + contractors) who wanted to use Google had to enter a captcha each time.
That person wasn't too popular, although as we're an ISP, they were lucky that this only happened to addresses sourced from our corporate network and not the ranges allocated for use by customers.

It's Reasonable, and I guess we can work out the monthly royalty likes...
-

Can you anonymize that enough to describe what they did?
I ask out of morbid curiousity.
-
@loopback0 might actually get a nice Sidebar WTF thread out of it...
-
Can you anonymize that enough to describe what they did?
They were stress/soak testing something out of our network to the outside world, and picked Google as the destination, so hit it with far too many requests considering that everything out of our corporate network leaves via 1 of 2 addresses. That's the best I can do, considering that anyone with sufficient Google-fu can work out where I work from my previous post, it's best not risking any more detail.
-
Nah, that's a good enough explanation. Even if I had the bandwidth Google does I'd probably be annoyed if someone tried that.
-
I figured that the "And more!" would cover that, but I should have known that someone wouldn't be satisfied with that. I've added those behaviors and expanded the paragraph after as well. here's the altered portions (new parts in bold):
Do not expect Jeff to listen to real evidence or actual facts. Jeff's responses to facts and evidence include:
- Ignoring his opponent
- Unrelated or incomplete personal anecdotes
- Nonsensical gibberish
- Phrases that begin with "Well, I believe ..."
- "I don't believe you."
- Deleting posts he disagrees with
- Name calling
- Banning the opposing user from meta.d
- And more!
Examples of some of these can be seen in the Android® definition.
The keen observer will note that several of these behaviors violate the code of conduct specified in the meta.d terms of service. Yet reporting such violations to other members of the meta.d staff will only bring the reporting user frustration as they are told that they were "asking for it" and that they should "grow a pair", or something similar.

About 8 hours. Don't know if that's a record time, but at least someone is aware of this thread now.
-
5 hours, plus the user was deleted.
(Posted 9h ago, deleted 4h ago)

No mention of lolcats to prove his point?
-
I'm leaving that under "and more", mostly because he primarily uses them outside arguments. But also because that post is turning into an encyclopedia entry.
-
I propose:
**Discosearch** *???* - NOT FOUND -
Filed Under: unless there can be two definitions of Discosearch
-
We try to discourage independent definitions. The one example which has occurred so far (Discotime) was unintentional. I'll flag this to add when I'm at a desktop.

We try to discourage independent definitions.
Don't you think that's actually not a WTF, and thus something you shouldn't do? (too many double negatives. I suggest that multiple ambiguous definitions are the kind of thing that are appropriate for Discurse. We could call it a Discotionary.
-
I think it would be best if each definition could be turned into a wiki post, but IIRC, DickSores won't allow that.
-
Proposal: Create a patch for some random bug in discourse and submit it.
But while doing so create some obfuscated javascript that'll add the Discopedia and make it appear on demand.

Actually...

I think it would be best if each definition could be turned into a wiki post,
OK, I think I got them all.
-
Sweet!

Not actually related to Discourse
You sure? I'm sure we could come up with a discourse related definition.
-
2. A compulsion to find yet another bug in Discourse, or break it in a previously undiscovered way.

There's already a word for that: testing :PFuck me, that smiley's horrible. It looks like Zippy on crack.
-
The common name for Discoursitis, a medical condition exhibiting symptoms such as liking Discourse, and recommending Discourse to anyone who's looking for new forum software.
That's a good one! @accalia's post is now wikified, and can be updated with this definition. Though Discoursitis sounds a bit like Discophilia, Discourse Syndrome, and the behavior expected from a zealot of TCotCDCK.
-
no, i'm not sure, but it thought it would be funny to have an entry int he discopedia that said it wasn't related to discourse, so we could have one for other definitions to link to as synonyms. ;-)
apparently the joke either was stillborn or whooshed everyone. probably the former.
-

So just define Disco.
-
I was hoping to be a little more subtle than that. -sigh- either way.
me tried.
-
Got a Disco404 on that: [Edit: Which I'd a known had I read further and not been in a time warp reading 6d as 6h...]

DiscoBotnounSomething which doesn’t exist.
See: @SummonBot, @discoursebot, @Zoidberg, @MottBott, @sockbot, etc.
-
Yes master Intercourse, I shall appear as summoned.
-
@Intercourse. I challenge you to "clawplach"!
-
you just had to trigger them didn't you?
:-D
-
It seemed like the definition was missing something...I just could not put my finger on it until now...
Also, @blakeyrat
-
No bots!
-
i seill need to actually make @TCotCDCK do something other than like in /t/1000....
