The bad jokes topic 🐴🍹👨

Would save so much time typing the same repetitive stuff.
Plus we could have a T-1000 style topic for each rating.
- The Official Likes Thread
- The Official Disagree Thread
- The Official Doing It Wrong™ Thread
- The Official Giggity Thread
etc
-
Also we could have a "Discourse" rating and reduce the amount of new posts by at least half.
-
On the Likes Thing: There is no relationship between likes give and likes received. The metric to use concerns the posts you make and likes given to them.. However, this is not sufficient because if I only ever made 1 post and it was liked once I would get 1:1, which seems "perfect" but would be "wrong". So you would need something like the ratio of number of posts with likes to the number of posts without likes and "something" to look at the number of likes per post.
So you could get something like: 43 Posts per Liked Post, with a mean of 3 Likes per Post with a SD of 1. then somehow ties that into a single rated value.
NOTE: The only thing you can say about Likes Given, is that they have a relative value accorded to them by the Giver and, like currency exchange rates, the more given, the less value they have. But they all have the same value because they are emotional tokens - or something like that
-
Total likes received / your post count gives you a reasonably close approximation.

This Halloween I went dressed as a chicken. I ended up going home with a girl dressed as an egg.
I found out the answer to an age old question. It was the chicken.

Magic is obscure? Among nerds?

I know, right? It's like a couple of weeks ago on Big Bang Theory where Howard and Raj decide to form a filk group, and Stuart (who owns a comic-book store, fer chrissake!) has to have filk explained to him.
-
OK just :WTF: (and I cannot emphasise this any further) does Sci Fi music sound like. And if the answer even approaches anything like the theme to Star Trek, then....
Rationally, if you apply to music what is applied to literature to make it Sci Fi, then I guess your man is Stockhausen or Kratfwerk (a Band). That said, it is almost immediately invalidated when you consider that atonal music is very much an Oriental thing and has been for thousands of years.
Perhaps there should be a group / movement called pilk for the publishers of Sci Fi fiction, or hilk for the handlers of Sci Fi fiction.
It's shit like this that gives nerds a bad name and causes them incalculable trauma because they are afraid of the ridicule and derision that will be heaped upon them if they should come out and admit it.
Still, on the plus side, as a "breed" they will eventually die out because of the lack of breeding. The few mongrels thrown up as a result of accidents in natural selection (and let's face it; without failures how do you know you have success?) present no real threat to the entropy of mankind.

Penguin's car breaks down. While the mechanic's taking a look at it he orders a bowl of ice cream. Because he's a penguin, and it's hard to eat ice cream when you've got a beak and flippers, he ends up making a huge mess. Gets back, and the mechanic says “looks like you've blown a seal.”
Oh, no, this is just ice cream.
-
looks like you've blown a seal.
Seemed benign enough, it's a phrase I've heard often enough in this context. Then Engine explained it to me and I choked on a spit take.

I liked your post for general agreement, but I'd like to disagree with the last point.
Feature request: optional comment field for likes when you agree in general but disagree with some portion of the post or just need to explain why you liked it.
We should be able to moderate the comment fields. Just a yes/no-- or maybe a like button.
Some "like" comments might need to be commented on, so we should be able to reply to them. Unless the comment on the like comment is meant for moderators only, so we should be able to whisper-reply a reply to a comment to a moderator.

Stuart (who owns a comic-book store, fer chrissake!) has to have filk explained to him.
To be fair, that's so that they can explain to the mundanes what's going on. But yeah, it would have worked better if they were explaining to Penny or something.

Magic is obscure? Among nerds?
I am a nerd, if I do say so myself.
Magic is pretty obscure to me. I know what it is, but I've never played and never had a desire to. Same with D&D and other nerdy games.I guess I just never saw the appeal.

OK just (and I cannot emphasise this any further) does Sci Fi music sound like.
I think the general idea is it's heavy on Theramin. Like the soundtrack of The Day The Earth Stood Still (the original non-shitty version).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cPEchNTSE0
Also see This Island Earth (except when the trumpets come in it sounds, like MST3K made fun of, like the overwraught music from a middle school educational film about magnets):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikRHr9aqu1M
And a dose of Forbidden Planet:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unSrf-htPbk
I mean there's enough similarity in the classic "mid-century sci-fi sound" that you could call it a music genre.
Modern sci-fi is just "movie music". Note that Star Trek (the TV series) had something that could be called sci-fi music as a theme, but by the movie in the 1970s it was strictly "movie music".
I can't even watch that This Island Earth trailer without inserting the MST3K cracks in it. "Run, Ruth, run!" "Great strategy there, Patton."

Still, I imagine you'd recognize one of the cards as being from MTG, and that that is typically the case. Knowing about any card other than the Black Lotus is rather unlikely, unless someone is really into it, but it's the single most popular trading card game in the world.
-
Knowing about any card other than the Black Lotus is rather unlikely,
that was an odd card indeed....
ther was a pretty brtoken combo that i used... oh must be 8-9 years ago now...
there was a card combo i could play that let me generate infinite 1/1 tokens on my turn.
one card let me tap it to create 2x 1/1 creature tokens and another card that i could tap to generate one mana, and if it was tapped i could sacrifice one creature token to untap any card on the table.
yeah... if i managed to bring that combo to the table it was game over.
-
Still, I imagine you'd recognize one of the cards as being from MTG
Nope. I'd recognize it is a card from a card game.
-
A guy at work wants to build this awesome two card combo:
There's this painter that lets you decide that all cards in your opponent's deck are now some color of your choice in addition to anything else. There's another card that mills the top three cards from your opponent's library: repeat if they share a color.
-
well, that's a nasty combo for a control deck....
-
I have a three card combo I built into a deck: Worldgorger Dragon, Animate Dead, then any direct damage spell.
It became a bit less effective with more spells and effects being added to exile, and then I stopped playing Magic entirely.
-
There's some weird stuff going on with exile now. The new Eldrazi constantly exile things, but Eldrazi Processors do things by returning cards from exile to your opponent's graveyard. A black deck could work surprisingly well against them, since you could multi-unearth.
I intend to add some unblockable Eldrazi with Ingest (Exile top card from library) to my mill deck, but mostly I'm an artifact person, and so this new Zendikar block is lame.
-

Still, I imagine even you wouldn't recognize the egotist meme.

Painter's Servant comboes with a fuckin' land. And since it's an artifact, pretty much any land.
My favourite fun non-competitive combo is Duskmantle Guildmage (1UB: whenever an opponent puts a card into a graveyard, they lose 1 life) + Mindcrank (whenever an opponent loses life, they put that many cards into their graveyard from the top of their library).
I generally love mill, but it's been hated to hell in competitive play. Have an opponent side in Rest in Peace and you can pretty much concede both game 2 and 3.
-
I have a few Tormod's Crypt, which works well enough for exiling things, but I really need to improve my deck. It isn't at all unfair.
