:tophat: Mad Hatter Hijinx

From the "Expanding Replies Hides Raw Button" Thread:
as the only one in this thread who hasn't been Mad-Hattered:

I just pulled up this site and it felt like the logo was wrong. I then realized I was expecting it to have a hat and monocle, like my current avatar.
-
Choose your favourite transparency:
I prefer the last one, myself.
-
We need a plugin for this!
And I mean a serverside one. JS is just lame in this case (and there's no* way of having the user apply any rotations and positioning on the avatar).

It's like a Warhol painting.

I'm already glad I didn't get a stache above the wee-wee. It is supposed to be a small boy after all.
-
small boy
Small indeed. We spent half a day looking for the damn thing because my father Does Not Give Up!

Did you find jeanneke?
-
What is it with Belgium and pissing infants?
-
Didn't know she existed.
... And isn't it typical that a statue of a peeing boy becomes world news, whereas a ditto girl goes by utterly unnoticed. I bet she does not even get to wear different clothes depending on the season.
-
She's generally even kept behind bars ...
-
-
There are far too many unbehatted, unbemonacled, unbestachioed images appearing in this topic...

Discourse!

I prefer to think of this as a statement against hamburger menus specifically, and "everything's a phone" brainworms in general.

And the discourse feature of not updating one's own avatar correctly

oh it does, it jsut takes a full reset or a discorandom amount of discominutes for everyhting to synchronize

that discorandom time include a meeting and a lunch break and a sleep cycle of my pc ... but that was not enough for discourse.

that's the thing about discorandom... my current avatar synchronized in minutes on my desktop at work, but my desktop at home (five hours later when i turned it on from "off") still had the old avatar and required a refresh to clear it.

sounds like DiscoCaching

hmmm unless memory is lying to me again we have two new terms for the discopaedia...

I should also put DocoMbobulated in there too

Not sure about Discorandom. It seems to be actually properly random, not pseudorandom.
Wait...
BOT REQUEST! Password generator seeded by time (in seconds) it takes Discourse to execute an action (randomly determined by using the same mechanism).

hmm.... i REALLY need to finish documenting @sockbot so other people can easily add mew sock_modules to do cool things.

Yes master Commander @Accalia Shepard, I shall appear as summoned.

Don't look at me, I had my code added to the forums and now it's a matter of pride in my sloppy work to fix and maintain the damned thing, so I'm booked.

Considering each one requires unique adaptation (eg, omitting the monocle, changing the colors, adapting for lack of a head, adapting for perspective, etc.) it would be difficult to make a plugin.

I was going to put the hat there ...
-
Get off my lawn!
@Zecc offers a very high quality hatting service. I might have to change my provider.
-
Then let him start his own thread. This one's mine! Mine I say!
CHANGE PLACES!
-
I was going to put the hat there ...
@Luhmann: If you want that variant, I'll need a de-hatted version of your avatar.
-
Go for it
-
Looking at my past avatar's, I noticed this one
aha .I was the original head-'n-stache! but no monocle for that dude
-
Much better!
-
-
You know, I should flag you just for that ...
Instead, I'm de-hatting you and giving you a bad toupee.
Careful not anger the hatter. ;)
-
-
Man, that looked better in my head.
You could have stopped short of posting it. Or put a spoiler on it.

Nah. I suffered, thus so will you all.

Ok, I'll elaborate now that I have more time to type. What I was thinking of is something that pops up after you upload your avatar image. You get a collection of hats, 'staches and monocles to play with that you can move, rotate and scale. Also, color picker available. I see no big barriers to doing that using
<canvas>
.But there would have to be a serverside component to it so you can save your changes as a new image. There is a way you could potentially do it on the fly with JS but... just no, you don't want to know the pile of WTF I have in my head as a possible implementation.
-
I see now. But then I couldn't keep my Mad Hatter title. I like my title.
Though perhaps if I made the plugin ...
No, I'm not learning enough about Dicsourse to do that. Even my insanity has it's limits.
-
Nah. I suffered,
Through your own poor choices. Keep it to yourself next time.
/shudder/
-
-

I think all that's needed is for the JS to read the canvas as a data URL then upload that to the server as a file.
-
Well, yes. But it still requires the upload bit, which is serverside. Which requires a serverside plugin.
Now, if someone is willing to do that bit, we could talk. If @abarker doesn't send a flock of suicide seagulls to assassinate me first.
-
Which requires a serverside plugin
not really. just have clinet side JS fake the avatar upload POST and bob's your uncle
-
But how does one afford to outfit a flock of seagulls with monocles?
