hooooray......
it's an election year, so i'm starting to get political spam messages... fun....
No, i will not discuss my political views with an unsolicited caller.
No i will not negotiate.
No i will not accept anything short of you removing my email and/or number from your database.
time to set up an autoresponder to reply to spam messages with fake exchange "Mailbox not found" errors.... and change my voice mail message to "Breedle deep! The number you have dialed is not in service. Please dosconnect your call and try again. -ten seconds of silence-"
either that or take the email addresses i get political spam for and start signing them up to the opposite party's mailing lists.... but that seems cruel and more than a smidge unethical.

you do it if you want. I think i'll keep the moral high ground..... or at least the moral higher than them ground

@accalia You might be in the swamp, but you're trying to stay on the island in the swamp instead of battling the 'gators in their element?

That's a pretty low bar. I approve.

Today it’s a different recruiter asking me if I want IT candidates with an MSP background.
I’m offered 3 candidates in the area.
One is an IT manager with all the buzzwords (certified Scrum master, ITIL, Prince2, MSP management)
One is a senior tech - AD as the first thing listed doesn’t entirely fill me with hope, Azure as a single buzzword… all of Azure?? O365/Exchange, VMware. Oh shit, this guy knows “Server Operations” and “PC Hardware” too. Specialist in his field, apparently. (If he is a specialist in his field, why are you telling me he has an in-depth knowledge of first line support? Someone that senior shouldn’t be on the front line.)
And one is “technical/desktop support”, so the grunt line troop. Windows 7 gets a specific shoutout, as does ZenDesk and, again, “Azure”.
I want to know what leap of logic where he saw/found my company, thought to email me with this.
Specifically, if you saw our company website (and no I’m not about to show you, because a) self dox, b) you’ll see my shonky coding, c) WordPress, d) actual pictures of me on there and noone needs that) you would soon see that this is a company full of young motivated people (and me) all using Macs.
All of us. And you’d see that the company isn’t big enough to warrant any of these positions even if we weren’t a Mac-loving web agency.

As in "officially declared insane"? Cromulent.
-
@dkf claims of ITIL and Prince2 as well, if he wasn’t certifiable before, he will be now.

I have my home land-line phone ( ) and Internet service with the same company. They have a website where I can block phone numbers and anyone calling me from a blocked number will get a recording that says something along the line of "This person is not accepting calls at this time".
I have no idea what a blocked person hears on mine. I figured it just kept ringing for them. The call history appears to log all those as "MIssed".
There are a number of WTFs involved.
I'm only allowed to block a maximum of 30 numbers, so after hitting the limit I delete the oldest number so I can add a new number.Mine used to have a 30 max. They raised it to 100 a couple years ago.
-
@dangeRuss said in 📧 The Official Spam Emails Thread™:
Or the FCC did something useful and it's actually harder to spoof phone #'s now.
-
@dangeRuss Accessing numbers and spoofing numbers are two completely different things. Not being able to access numbers just means they switch to sequentially walking all numbers. Big deal. The scammers doing the "calling" will never see that because the computers handle it. And we know they can't keep up with the computers because of all the "dead" calls I get.

Why not spend $2 a month and provide the rest of us with some entertainment?

Sometimes the is selective. I've written over a thousand lines of code over this weekend (and deleted almost as much) so I've not been idle, but the definitely rules for stupid shit like blocking junk. The whole point is to save effort for the things we want to do; physical effort, mental effort, social effort, spiritual effort, all apply.
It's nice to just get stuff done in peace and quiet with no real external motivators at all, just the internal feeling of wanting to make something nice.

So the fücktärd from johnny@hjgdjfhgsdjgfuzwrhbsdfvsajgzrgfrrsjk.edu who later changed into risngd@bnbvmxcdbgjkghsdvbyvzxvchjko.prw, seems to have given up finally. Or has he been shown the by my 2nd email provider?
Not yet sure if I really could already deactivate the filter rules...

Why translate it to Swedish when you can translate it to Australian for much the same effect?

@Arantor Because we have/had the reputation as the "land of sin"? I dunno where that comes from, it's not like we invented a music genre called "genital rock" for example...

@Zerosquare My first thought was more along the lines of "do I look like someone willing to work with SAP," but that, too.
