@ChaosTheEternal How does one "sell out" of an infinitely reproducible digital product?

Chrono.gg only gets so many codes to sell at the cheap price, as advertising for the game. Just because the publishers can have more codes issued doesn't mean they give infinite numbers of them to the various resellers.

@pie_flavor According to their forums, the game had been sold out for 10 hours by the time you posted that.
Had the website open in another tab for a while before realizing I should post it. Sorry.

For a limited time you can get Gone Home from the Humble Bundle Humble Monthly Humble Trove: A Humble Monthly Exclusive. I've heard it's boring as shit and definitely not worth $20 or whatever it costs, so free sounds like a good price for it.
-
@hungrier Mini review: I walked around for a bit and every time I found a painstakingly modeled SNES cartridge or some mention of Street Fighter II, it reminded me of how I could be playing some other game. Also, either the house is twice as big as a giant mansion would be, or the main character walks super slowly.

I don't know anything about Gone Home, but there are some games that aren't even worth free. Just look at some of the stuff @blakeyrat's played.

I played/watched Gone Home a few years ago and didn't find it all that interesting. Too artsy/pretentious, perhaps? Not much of a payoff for your time? Either way, definitely not worth $20 to me.
This past week I played What Remains of Edith Finch
?(free from the Epic Store not too long ago) and it was better, but some sequences still feel overdone and you're still just walking through a not-that-mysterious mystery. And yes, the characters in these walking simulators always move too slow. It's how they control the pacing.... ;)
-
@Parody Real, hard-definition walking simulators are never fun for me. At that point they're boring because of how tied to rules-based movement they are. There's really no reason to not make it a Telltale-style game at that point.

Space Engineers is $7 on chrono.gg.
-
@pie_flavor Thanks. That's been on my Steam wishlist for a while. It's now in my library.
-
Has anybody played SpellForce? Is it any good? Steam has the entire franchise, 3 games and a bunch of DLC, I guess, for $27.35, 82% off, but the reviews are mixed.

Deponia and a few other games are free on Indiegala:

https://freebies.indiegala.com/camp-sunshine?dev_id=freebies

Unlike before, now the free games get associated with your Indiegala account (under Showcase Library), so you can access them at any time.

@HardwareGeek yes, but I only played the original. It was very good back in the day, I've no idea what the sequels are like though.
The original was pretty much, "what if Guild Wars was an RTS?", and it gave me many hours of fun.
I've just looked at some videos, and the latest one looks gorgeous! I think I'll have to check it out.

It's a shame he doesn't make more of those videos. I enjoyed them.

I loved SpellForce (1: Order of Dawn, Breath of Winter, and Shadow of the Phoenix). It's a fun mix of RTS and RPG. However, it plays very slowly and you cannot change the game speed. For example, if you need to walk across the map to get to the next portal you will have time to go to the bathroom and grab a drink from the fridge.
I played through all of SpellForce 2 (Shadow Wars, Dragon Storm, Faith in Destiny, and Demons of the Past) but don't remember it as well as the first one. I want to say it ended up buggier than the first one but it's just been too long.
SpellForce 3 (in the demo I tried, at least) played much different from the first two, with a much more limited RTS mode. I might pick it up in this sale, though.

I haven't finished (I think) after wandering around for an hour and a half, and in that time I have not felt invested enough to actually determine if I'm even close to finishing.
@hungrier said in Game Deals Thread:

This. My deceased grandmother could walk faster.
It reminds me of The Park, but slower and more dead. There isn't even an imaginary enemy! Like, I'm left asking myself, "Why am I breaking into this house? Why am I compelled to read random shit strewn everywhere? Why are random notes and things strewn everywhere? Why am I wandering around when I should (by all rights) just be going to fucking bed? Why do I leave my luggage out on the porch? WHAT IN THE FUCK?!?"
Knowing what I know at present, if I was in the MC's situation, I would just go to bed (you know, turning off the lights) and wait until morning. Finding parents not home, do whatever (after all, I'm an independent adult, I don't need their permission to take a shit or eat breakfast!) and deal with the aftermath of my sister offing herself later.. There's no reason to be walking around like a deranged zombie like so...

I was assisted in completing it. Apparently I was literally five minutes away, because in my hitherto careful exploration of literally everything, I decided not to open the door that looked like yet another closet with nothing in it and missed the critical thing because fuck it, twelve closets had nothing, why look in this one? except it wasn't a closet, natch.
I suppose this is an example of what might happen if I attempted to make a walk-a-thon of a typical person's life, and instead of making the player take that person's shoes and walk in them, I instead make them take another person's shoes and make that other person read about the first person's life.
@Tsaukpaetra said in Game Deals Thread:

Yeah. It's The Park, except instead of playing the mother of a lost boy, you play an investigator reading reports of a mother of a lost boy. Or her psychiatrist in any case.
The level of indirection of where things were actually happening was just too far detached.Hence my end judgement of "boring". Definition: not interesting tedious. Monotonous, uneventful, lifeless, unstimulating, bland, mind-numbing. And this is me, coming from having read 55+ million words of various stories. I suppose I just haven't read a story where the main character was reading a story...
Oh well, I came, I played the walk-a-thon, I proved to Blakey my soul still doesn't exist, and I suppose that's really all there is to it.

I found that in the first Dear Esther, the HL2 mod, I could move significantly faster by crouching everywhere.

Indiegala freebie: Death Goat
https://freebies.indiegala.com/death-goat/
You shoot an endless (?) horde of skull spiders, fat zombies and other enemies with a metal soundtrack (which I'm sure is all properly licensed)

I don't know if it's good or not, but I know it's free, and made by Zachtronics, which is good enough for me.
The Redshift is a fictional handheld game console in the universe of the puzzle programming game EXAPUNKS. This player will allow you to play Redshift games made by other EXAPUNKS players, but you'll need the full version of EXAPUNKS to create your own.
Play Redshift games created by your friends, even if you don’t own EXAPUNKS!
-
@Zecc
Exapunks itself is great. But just the ability to play Redshift games? Not so much.

UPlay is giving away Steep (a snowboarding game). I haven't tried it yet but I liked the SSX games way back when so I'll probably give it a try sometime. (SSX Tricky was a favorite; I'd like to see another "goofy fun" one vs. the realistic turn most of these games have taken.)
The Epic Store is giving away a game a week for a while. This week's is Stories Untold, a set of spooky adventure puzzles that are all tied together. I'm not into those so I watched the Scary Game Squad play it a while ago and have no real need to play it myself, but you might like it and the price is right.

Guacamele free for about 2 days on humble store
-
I've done at least four complete play-throughs of the Gold edition and two of STCE, plus two of Guacamelee 2.
So I guess you could say I like this game.
-
Have Origin? You can currently get the Sims 4 (without DLC) for free:

:slow_clap.mov:
-
@HardwareGeek Better than the blank screen I get without javascript.
-
@kazitor It's not like I really cared about Sims4; it was just one of those "meh, it's free" things.
-
Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is free on Steam until May 23 @ 12:00pm:
A couple notes:
-
Per Valve, games granted during "free-to-keep" promotions like the above don't drop trading cards, if you care about that thing.
-
Getting the game as free supposedly will make the below bundle drop to under $10, making getting the sequel cheaper as the bundle than the current discount by itself.

Well, TIL:
TL;DR: studio tried to create a remake of the No One Lives Forever games, going as far as acquiring its source code, but then failed to navigate the IP labyrinth standing between them and the rights to sell.
So they've ended up releasing it for free.

Cool! I loved the first game.
Something was wrong with stealth in the second AFAIR. And I never even heard about Contract J.A.C.K.
-
I had a fun moment regarding stealth in the first game.
While preparing for a level where one of the requirements was absolute stealth, I picked a gun and ammunition I had thus far not yet used.
Now, I'm not gun-savvy, so I picked it purely based on looks. Turns out the gun was actually louder than my regular gun.
A fact I only learned when I first fired it in a mission, of course. This by itself would have been funny, but the first time I fired it happened to be when I was trying to snipe out a guard at a rather large distance. I took my time to very carefully aim a headshot, hoping I could take him out without calling up the attention of another guard also patrolling the area...
Then I fired. I had loaded explosive rounds. There was some flying of the target. An obviously failed mission. And some laughing out loud.

What the heck is up with that music? Are they trying to entice FPS gamers or something?
