What is wrong with the following laptop design
-
If you get it right you get a or
bare in mind the pictures are the right side profile
extra point if you can tell which one is worst
##Model A.
##Model B.
-
Neither one can open past 135 degrees?
-
You can't plug two USB devices at the same time if they a little bigger than standard.
FYI, I'm currently using the Dell XPS 13 and it's a great laptop.
-
#1 does not have USB 2.0, though it has HDMI.
#2 has USB 3.0, but only has VGA. Can't tell what some of the other ports are.
-
Come on, Markdown....I'm not fixing that because I'm too lazy and stuff should Just Work.
-
Clearly the apple-logo is missing.

can't or won't?
I will add it to the list. You can't plug two USB devices at the same time if they a little bigger than standard.
good one
-
can't or won't?
Pick your nomenclature. If you try to do it on either, shit will break.
-
Model A is far more likely to tip over backwards unexpectedly than model 2.
-
External output cables on the side instead of the back, making you have to wrap cords around into view to plug into a monitor instead of being neat and tidy behind the thing? Or is that just me?
-
So you weren't going to tell us? You were actually asking?
They both look fine to me. Except VGA's pretty dated at this point.
EDIT: Of the two I'd probably get the second, because having all the plugs on one side of the laptop is pretty damn convenient. However, I don't like the hinge not being at the extreme back of the laptop. Not because I regularly open them past 135 degrees, but just because it gives you a bit more space between the top of the keyboard and bottom of the monitor.
Both of them suck compared to my Acer S7.

both have hdmi, it might not be clear from the picture. and
I think both have usb3 and at least 1 usb2.0 probably on the other side.Clearly the apple-logo is missing.

Yeah, I am not sure if that means I nailed it or he meant to type "Wooosh" as in I missed the point.
-
I'm going to guess "the lid extends over the bottom half when closed."
USB3 type A ports are backwards-compatible with USB2, so a lack of USB2 ports isn't much of a hindrance.
Most ports or on the side now instead of the back so they can move the hinges.

model b your desk will tip over before that monster will.External output cables on the side instead of the back, making you have to wrap cords around into view to plug into a monitor instead of being neat and tidy behind the thing? Or is that just me?
You hit the spot, it is not just you , this is actually a big pain to use model B
when you have an external monitor, and the power cord poping on the same side of the mouse.
-
Edit: although i don't know if that's a ding for model 1 or model B....
-
Most laptops are that way now. Off-hand, I am having trouble thinking of one where that is not the case.
-

Model B offer much more ports, the bad design is that most cable (power cord, hdmi, vga, extra is on the right side of the machine). on a limited desk space you are going to suffer greatly. I am not sure what are the statistics but I believe the majority of the population uses their right hand for the mouse. regardless most products are designed for right hand usage.
So you weren't going to tell us? You were actually asking?
Originally I had 2 major things on my mind that are fundamentally flowed.
-
Is the side they choose to put all the ports on Model B
-
The proximity of the audio jack to the USB port.
personally I tried to insert the headphones blindly and something felt not as smooth as I expected.
I actually inserted it to the usb port. I believe if I didn't realize that quick enough and kept on poking I could have caused a short circuit.
There was a urban legend where I used to work that some one got fired because they actually burned a mac pro tower motherboard for a similar mistake.

Edit: First time I went to post this, it reported an error. I resubmit later and get a double-post. -Ahem- @discoursebot

If you manage to burn-out a motherboard due to short-circuiting a USB port, someone really fucked up.
-
someone really fucked up.
Par for the course, if it was a Mac.

I have one of those aluminum G5s in my spare bedroom closet. I always wanted to dremel the Mac shit out of the case and put in ATX-sized stuff, but when I looked up directions it looked pretty involved. The last-gasp of the non-ATX-but-still-serviceable-desktop-computer.
I'm not sure current-generation video cards would fit.
-
it is more common then one think( 1 google result is enough for me to claim that) .
but it is also possible that it was a minor short-circuiting with no real damage to the board. a short circuit in a well designed board can minimize the damage to the more important parts of the board.
But it didn't make much difference if the motherboard was completely fried or a it was small short circuit that can be easily fixed. the outcomes were the same, the man got fired.

what can i say? @zoidberg

Doctor Zoidberg, soaking in brine.

My laptop has power, USB 3, VGA and HDMI on the same side. Works fine.
-
Kenninston (i think) lock, HDMI, 2x USB3, SDcard on the right, Power, 1000baseT, 2x USB3, Combination headphone/microphone (those are the real evil) ports on the left
both are listed from back to front.
-
Try that with one of the new "dust bin" Macs. It would take some careful bending.

my ASUS-G71 was my favorite,
power, Ethernet, VGA, esata(never used it) at the back
2 usb ports, firewire on the left , 2 usb ports on the right and 2 audio jacks on the right. both nicely covered
it even came with blu-ray that I never used.
and it had a disco modeWhen it had to retire, I got the Model B in the picture. it works too but it was the one thing the ruin it for me.
got used to it eventually

WHAT ONE THING?!
-
WHAT ONE THING?!
the power cable on the right, was the one thing
This is why I got model A, Model B is a dust collector now a very powerful one
-
.... why did it take me a good 20 seconds to figure out what the heck you were quoting there?
excrement it's only 2040 here.... i should not be this out of it yet!

my quote got hacked
-
we'll call it that, sure!

I could not parse it either, don't feel bad.

shit thread, was not worth my reading time.

your punishment is to watch this movie

I hate that ASUS in their infinite wisdom decided not to cram two more USB ports into the unused space on the right side of my laptop. It would easily work out.
-
There was a urban legend where I used to work that some one got fired because they actually burned a mac pro tower motherboard for a similar mistake.
I burned out the audio sockets in an iMac trying to plug headphone out from an FM radio into the line in, so I could listen to broadcast radio and hear my computer sounds with the same headphones. Didn't work, lost all audio. Luckily a USB "sound card" restored headphone ability.
-
Model B angles the connectors up into the air. making it easy to accidentally brush them with your right hand, disconnecting them.
