đ The officious song of the day comment thread!

FF has a new album coming out soon, too.
-
I really liked their cover of Eleanor Rigby.
-
So, I'm replying to people here, but it doesn't show that.

I forgot where I was in the other thread. Their cover of Eleanor Rigby was amazing. I should post that also!
-
Is anyone else getting annoyed by the Youtube's embeded player? Why the hell do I have to load the whole freaking thing before I can click on the Youtube link for the video?
-
Is there a recording of her singing without autotune turned up to 11?
No, that was her only single. Basically, someone told that poor girl that she could be a STAR!!! and then sold her... that. And told her it was amazing! And she was flamed to oblivion the minute it hit YouTube.
-
IIRC her Mum paid the record label to write the song and make the video.
-
paid
to write the song
I was about to say something about that. Then I turned on the radio...
Carry on.
-
Riiight. I can't take more than 20 seconds of that. Is there a recording of her singing without autotune turned up to 11?
-

She was really cool about it though. She donated all of the profits to charity, and did actually release a second song
-

Black attended private school from kindergarten to 6th grade, and moved to a public school due to bullying.
Am I the only person who thinks that makes no sense? If the private schools have a problem with bullying, moving to a public school is unlikely to be a change for the better. She later started homeschooling.
The poor girl seems to attract bullies like moths to a flame. (not victim-blaming, just an observation)
-
Changing schools is often all it takes to get a fresh start... unless you're an internet celeb.
-
At least according to Wikipedia, she left private school due to bullying before her video was put on YouTube. I would guess that YouTube is what prompted her homeschooling though.
-

As someone else said, her parents spent a few thousand dollars to make a video for her and to attempt to make her sound good. Apparently her voice isn't good enough, so they autotuned it.
She did have a followup video, but it was more forgettable than this one.
-
God dammit I'm in the local trendy burrito joint, known for playing absurd music. This is on.
-
@Yamikuronue, Re: The "Baby Metal" video. I don't think I would like that even if I could understand WTF they were saying. ;)
Also, I am pretty sure I saw it first here:

still needs to work on her stage acting... excellent music but.... can't watch these in top tab.

The lyrics are pretty typical pop-idol stuff: "Give me chocolate, I want chocolate, but my weight worries me, so I won't have any". There's also a pun involving the word for chocolate sounding like the word for "wait a minute" (used here as a soft "no, I won't have any"). I love weird fusions like that XD
-
I want chocolate, but my weight worries me, so I won't have any
Fortunately bulimia is a thing.

Continuing the discussion from Song of the day:
The original is a bit more epic:
Still the pinnacle of RPG/FPS crossover gaming.
-
I'm not going to scroll up, but I think when we were posting video game music, somehow Baba Yetu never ended up here. Which is criminal. So here it is.
You beat me to that, but at least you didn't post the version I wanted.

Oh man, that thing... Was on constant repeat for a while a few years back.
-
-
Safety mode, Youtube, really?
Hmmm.
-
Youtube must have gone to the Discourse school of enabling/disabling things.
So I found this, and set it to Off:
Got this:
And now:
Which apparently actually means it's turned off.
-
Wat?
-
-
Exactly.

Lavender town is a famous place, at least among gamers. If you don't know why, just listen to this:
Listening didn't help any.

That was... more enjoyable than I thought it would first be.

Before the girls started singing, yeah.
-
-
The original is better
-
This "cover" seems to simply be singing over the original vocals, as far as I can tell (EDIT: no maybe not? There's something funky going on with it, maybe synth-choir? The original has no synth.)
-
The video for the original doesn't have dozens (and yet only two) of mouth-gyrating creepy faces staring at me the entire time, who did they think this would appeal to? Oh God, now he's calling me the "Hollens Family"? Did I join a cult? What is this? I am scared of this. You know what makes a music video really great? Having it end with like 2 minutes of pitching shit to a cult. That works especially well on a playlist.

This. That sort of thing just marks it as being a complete ânopeâ for ever playing again. (The visuals during the music aren't nearly as big a problem as the rubbish afterwards.)
-
The original is better.
No, my opinion is better than yours.

I don't care about videos. I don't sit there staring at them.Other than that, I agree with you. It would be nice if YouTube could be coerced into ending the video at some time, like you can do for skipping the start.
-
I don't care about videos. I don't sit there staring at them.
And you also don't put them in playlists, apparently, or you'd also be annoyed by the long cult-pitch.
-
Have a like for the dancing.
-
Like the song; don't like the remix. I prefer this version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHcDIs8hwhUThe intro to the remix isn't danceable, and when it does become danceable, a little before 1:00, it sounds more like a swing than a tango. The Gotan Project version sounds like a tango, and the video has some good dancing (although I could do without the VFX).

I hesitate giving this a like because the voice puts me off. What are they singing about?
-
Slutty schoolgirls who look 12 years old but are actually 3,000 year-old witches. And get naked in episode 2.
-
-
I think that "XML in Oracle" is a single on their new album.
-
I hesitate giving this a like because the voice puts me off.
What are they singing about?
Apparently they're robots singing about how people should give up their lives for the state in some deeply fucked up future sci-fi scenario. Or something like that.

Due to nostalgia reasons, and also on account of being a great song, let's throw GT2 in as well:
I totally have that on my car's mix
tape-USB drive.
-
Thinking about putting this on repeat
I did. You bastard.
-
Always loved this song, not sure why.
I like this song because of: a) music*; b) instruments; c) vocals**; d) lyrics. The other song I find "meh".
* As in: the sequence of notes that define the basic melody and harmonies
** I don't include them in instruments

Hah, I hadn't noticed before, but you can see what looks like ink from a freshly-painted fake tattoo on the seat.
