How To Demoralize Employees: A DIY Guide for Terrible Companies
-
I know what you did to that couch last summer ...
It could not be helped, it was wearing a short dust ruffle.
-
I also believe that if you are working for a company that spends time perusing the DVR in order to find people to discipline because they for some reason believe that everyone should give 100%...100% of the time that they are on-premise...you should probably look for another job and not work for cocks. Everyone slacks off and no reasonable person would expect and employee to be able to concentrate perfectly for 8 hours at a time. Our brains do not work that way. I have a couch in my office, because dammit...sometimes I need a quick nap.
Agreed -- humans just aren't wired to concentrate on a single task for 8 hours at a time, especially under low-workload conditions.

Could you guys take a capitalism debate or whatever this is to another thread? Can we leave this thread for stuff employers do that completely demoralize their employees?
-
I'll support Blakey on this. Unionization is relevant to employee morale, but the debate about capitalism in general isn't.
INB4: topic drift, you must be new here, blah blah.

Good to see Boomzilla's so good at moderating here and not, for example, utterly ignoring user's requests.

So...issues of pay don't demoralize companies?
-
First, it's not a personal property, but a corporate's one, and those are two different entities.
Second, placing a camera in a perfect utopia world wouldn't be a problem, but with the kind of people you might find out there, you can't never be sure of how those images are going to be used or when. So, you stole a pen a month ago, no one cares, until they need an excuse to fire you. Or maybe your boss is a sick bastard who makes you come light dressed turns the heat up and goes back into his office to masturbate with a live feed from your desk. (I know must of us are males here, but this sort of shit happens to women everywhere)
Third, in a employer-employee relationship, the employer always have the leverage, that's why not only privacy laws are enforced to protect the employees, but also those of sexual harassment: "you're in my property, I can feel your boobies!"
Anyway, IDK when US citizens (all american countries have saner job protection laws than yours) felt like taking a stick up their asses while being slaved was fine. Maybe it was with Reagan that you all decided to bend over and give all rights on the false alternative of bigger paychecks? And now that salaries are at their lowest level since the 70's you should be very proud yourselves while I take my 22 days of paid vacations and 4 months of paid paternity/maternity leave. Yeah, we Europeans are stupid.
P.S.: I studied 2 years of college in the US and although I really liked the country and some of its people, I knew I wouldn't live there unless I had US$1M in my bank account. I don't mean this as a personal attack but as a "wake-the-fuck-up-you-pussy" slap in the face.

I moved 129 posts to a new topic: Unions and Capitalism and Living Wages, Oh my!

Guys, a bunch of posts got moved to:

Can I put in a request to move them back?
-
I think we should have a poll. Let democracy work and all that.

This is Discourse, not a government. That being said:
I think we should have a poll.
This IS Discourse...why not? Go set one up.
-
Can I put in a request to move them back?
... in the same place they were taken from..
I think we should have a poll.
Only if you can close it afterwards...

I moved a post to an existing topic: Unions and Capitalism and Living Wages, Oh my!
-
WTF? I thought that is where I was??
-
Huh....saved draft or something?
To get back on topic:
Use Discourse as your company bug tracker!
-
Please tell me that not even @CodingHorrorBot actually tracks the bugs in Discourse instead of actually putting the defect in a tracker (probably FogBugz for him, not that that's a bad product AFAIK now I'm rambling)

Srsly?
-
My coffee meter is currently at about 2% so if I'm not even making sense please ignore.
I mean, I knew they replied on the forum, but I thought that was just discussion and not, you know, actual tracking in any way.
-
They use it as the actual tracker.
Bugs are prioritised by Likes on the topic OP IIRC.

It's what @wood calls dogfoodinng

I think it's total likes. The Likes column is back:
That link is what you get when you click on the top level "Bugs" thing on meta.d.

That's what we told them. Someone here even tried setting up a real bug tracker for them. They only used it to accept bugs from us.
-
Pretty sure that's not actually how that works.
-
I think it's total likes.
That's what I meant. It's just obviously not the words I used.
My brain's fried today.
-
-
So, nothing's actually stopping anyone from making a bunch of sockpuppets to completely fuck up their tracking or does TL0 on meta.d not actually allow likes.
-
TL1 is trivial to attain.
-
Especially with a bot
-
Yeah, but that last part was a question. I should have ended it with a question mark.
-
It doesn't really matter. They'll do whatever anyways.
-
Ok look, another Discobug, probably relating to the site actually being slowish to respond right now due to Server Cooties I guess. I can finish this reply, click the reply button, and then still get the abandon post message if I do it fast enough.

Except that I think most of us
just don't give a [expletive] any morehave given up hope of having a beneficial influence on the Discodevs.
-
Eh, at least Sam seems to listen.
-
"Maybe".
I knew what you were implying, I was just being explicit about it.

Blame boomzilla. He's trying to unload his paycheck.

Hey, at least you get two full sized monitors. Blakey only got one.

Anyone else check for GPS data in the EXIF on this, after the previous Discoincident on this topic, or was it just me?
Filed under: I was at least checking so I could warn the user/mods if it existed
