I was going to say you could repurpose one of those stupid "screaming doormat" things that go for cheap but apparently they're not in season and are all hiding...

@boomzilla I'm concerned that the middle one shows the absolute date, but the outside ones show only the relative timestamp. It's almost as if...no, it can't be.
That's just how Twatter displays posts.

If you played Tomb Raider 2, you may remember a boss-fight with the Guardian of the Talion, which takes the form of a birdlike creature that some have called called "the chicken monster". It appears after you retrieve the relevant artifact, which becomes available to you only after Lara strikes a giant gong.
As they're present in pretty much all of the Tomb Raider games, wouldn't it make more sense for a T Rex to appear after you bang a gong?

Most people would probably prefer some cigrex to appear after banging whatever but YMMV.

I'd make it a passive-infrared motion sensor, such as are used to control the lights. A pressure plate would have problems with snow.

Why?
Why would you want to ring the doorbell when you get home?
Why would you have the postman ring the doorbell when he delivers some ads into your postbox?
Why would you have a cat ring the doorbell when it is strolling around near your door?
Why?
Just why?

your custom doorbell tone?
Ha! That's the killer application. Select a doorbell tone depending on the weight, distribution of the weight between legs, stepping pattern, etc. And now you can guesstimate who has arrived at your door.

Why would you want to ring the doorbell when you get home?Bold of you to assume I ever leave home.
Why would you have the postman ring the doorbell when he delivers some ads into your postbox?
So I can throw it away earlier and not have it mixed with real letters.
Why would you have a cat ring the doorbell when it is strolling around near your door?
Why would you have a cat?
Why?
Because USA.
Just why?
Because deliverypeople in USA don't understand the simple concept of ringing the doorbell to let people know there's a delivery.

Your doormat is some cat's territory.

@Mason_Wheeler I has never been spotted. It has always been clouded¹.
¹ It is a subspecies of the clouded leopard (neofelis nebulosa), and as such, is also not a leopard (panthera pardus) (which is actually spotted).

Maybe, but I'd like to know at least general appearance first!

I have trouble getting them to come to the front door and not climb over piles of garbage and cobwebs in a clearly-not-intended-to-be-traversed area to deliver packages.

I get emails and text messages.
-
@dcon I don't trust businesses with my phone number. Most of the time I don't get the email for many hours.

@Mason_Wheeler only once, I'd say, that appears to be a top-of-line purebred.

No. After you bang a gong, you get it on, then, repeat.

This can also be accomplished by slightly tuning a poorly-built porch. Gaining a valuable "no fatties" feature in the process.

@Mason_Wheeler With that camo pattern, no wonder it hasn't been spotted.
