@topspin They're just being inclusive of amputees. Or making fun of people with no arms and their lack of balance.

The BBC has apologised for the original headline in its reporting of the death of the convicted murderer Phil Spector. The former music producer died on Saturday at the age of 81, while serving a prison sentence for the murder of Lana Clarkson in 2003.
The first version on the breaking news story on the BBC News website carried the headline: "Talented but flawed producer Phil Spector dies aged 81".
In other news
Talented but flawed painter Adolf Hitler dies, age 56
Talented but flawed home chef Jeffrey Dahmer dies, age 34
Talented but flawed Beach Boys songwriter Charles Manson dies, age 83

@loopback0
can we replace the "goddamn fbmac" banner with a "it should fit now" banner?

No wonder Caesar was so freaked out about the Ides. I always hate New Year's resolutions too.

@Bulb It's called the Julian calendar for a reason...

:O Good thing they've changed the calendar then. I could have not been born!

So, without reading of course, they corrected it to "Talented producer Phil Spector dies aged 81"

My husband sent me this:
My response:
-
@Karla I agree with your take.
On a separate note:
My brother (who has COVID) and his wife (who also has COVID, but is also pregnant) did a short video they shared with the family of them trying different foods. Supposedly horseradish is nasty--hot, but no flavor at all. My sister in law said that pregnancy must be partially counteracting the disease, as she can still taste and smell just fine.
-
@Benjamin-Hall I'm what's called a "super-smeller", can not just detect smells that others are unaware of but can distinguish between similar smells (the cowshit odor at dairy farms smells vastly different from the cowshit odor at beef ranches).
Taste is probably similar, but I once got ahold of a packaged vindaloo that had no heat whatsoever. Just sourness. I have to wonder about the people who came up with the product.

Might just be a different random choice from the set of possible symptoms.

Sounds like they just omitted an ingredient, the chillies. Vindaloo is supposed to be sour as well as hot (as I understand it, the “vin” in the name refers to vinegar, a readily available ingredient in Goa).

I take it that's just as much a curse as it is a blessing; perhaps even more so.

I thought the loss of smell was related to the micro-clotting. If so, then they should probably monitor SpO2 for lung issues.

I've been using non-scented deodorants for years now. At first I couldn't choose between the different scents, so I just decided to try the scentless one. And later no deodorant smell ever really pleased me; at best they were just meh. So I kept going scentless.
And now, I figure I have a 1/10,000 chance of +1 Charisma when talking to a random person, in case they have a more sensitive nose. It's not much, statistically speaking. But it's a free charisma boost (and more likely to work than a supposedly attraction-boosting deodorant), so yay!

If you want real attraction-boosting, add magnetic nanoparticles.
(The terrible suggestions thread is or should be…)

So, instead of aluminum oxide, as found in most deodorants, you'd want to add magnesium oxide?

I think both of those are paramagnetic, if at all.

Hmm... Could you give me a non-toxic ferromagnetic substance that doesn't get immediately oxidized by sweat and atmosphere when in the form of finely ground dust?
-
@acrow A cursory search suggests Europium(II)-oxide.
edit: Wait, no, reactive with water.
-
Hopefully an active isotope so you can be attractive and energetic.
-
@Applied-Mediocrity Yes, yes, I fully aware that there are many more suitable substances readily available if we just ease up on the "non-toxic" requirement bit. But trust me, it's not going to be worth it.
And I'm quite sure the world isn't ready for an armpit-heating deodorant. No matter how much you like being ogled by NRC employees.
Edit:
P.S. Or IAEA employees, maybe.

During the German military administration in occupied France during World War II, one group of German scientists stole all the thorium they could while in occupied France. The Alsos Mission thought they were using the heavy elements for the refinement of uranium to be used in an atomic bomb, but they were only interested in using the thorium after the war in a patented brand of German toothpaste.

@Applied-Mediocrity That's a different view point: Dilbert tries to detect women by virtue of their metallic earrings, bracelets etc. In contrast, Dogbert makes women detect and approach him - like a magnet.
Dilbert's interaction with women is always fun, of course...

@BernieTheBernie I don't see why TDWTF's all new Rad Spice / Science DEGREE formula couldn't work universally.
