I didn't think cats were assholes until I was given one by my mother and one by my ex-wife, and saw how they treat each other. The bigger one would beat up the smaller one whenever he thought I wasn't paying enough attention to him.

How does this not apply to just about every animal in existence, including humans?

So you're saying we're all assholes? I'm OK with that.

@anotherusername Have you considered brushing it with a tongue-shaped piece of plastic?

No, I gave that idea the appropriate amount of consideration.

Naah, too easy. I'll let someone else make the obvious witty rejoinder to that.

That was awesome.

Cats, like gamers, prefer the illusion of control over the alternative.

I'll have you know that as a gamer I prefer the reality of control over the illusion.

@ben_lubar Kinda my point, yeah.
I assume that everyone here knows Literally Unbelievable, but for anyone who doesn't, it is a Tumblr blog (or was, the last post to it was in January of this year) which mocks people for taking articles by The Onion and Clickhole at face value. My joke was basically that this was precisely the kind of Clickhole 'news report' which would get repeated on Facebook and Twitter as factual by people who don't get what The Onion is.
And there are a lot of them. A lot. Every November some joker like me re-tweets the "42 Million Killed in Black Friday Sales" gag, and every year there are people who re-tweet that in a righteous fury, unaware that it is a joke, and not noticing that it goes back to 2013. Similarly, the 2011 "Planned Parenthood's new $8 Billion Abortionplex" article (which famously fooled a Louisiana Congressman when it was published, and was the impetus for creating LU in the first place) still gets circulated by morons with more outrage than sense, as does the "Brain-Dead Teen who can only roll her eyes and text to be Euthanized", article, which is from 2012 but was still fooling people last year.
Mind you, The Onion generally plays things straight-faced enough that it has fooled people who really should have known better, including Stephen Chu (though he sounds like he may just be in on the joke and playing it for laughs himself) and Sean Spicer (who probably just scanned the headline briefly and misread it), as well as the aforementioned Rep. Fleming. Still, the number of people who get taken in by it - purely unintentionally, as The Onion isn't exactly subtle about being satire - is almost as funny as the articles themselves.

You do know that clickhole has the journalistic integrity of breitbart and the accuracy of a moron trying to give a speech on acid, right? Even just reading the article, it has two sources: a facebook post from a secondary source and a local news site that itself cites zero sources and adds nothing to the credibility of the story. Furthermore, it doesn't list the author of the article. Yet another perfect example of the shady practices that made clickhole famous for being a fake news site. For all we know, this entire situation could be made up, and even assuming the local news site is telling the truth to the best of their ability, that still just means that the McD's franchise owner received a complaint and responded to that complaint in some fashion, which could just as easily have been to check security camera footage, see that the cop was not treated that way, and promptly ignore the complaint.

@jaloopa Is that a quote from somewhere specific, or did you run a travesty generator over a collection of Reddit comments? It reads a bit too much like a lot of actual replies I've seen to people posting about Clickhole 'reports' to be by chance, but I tried doing searches on several substrings and couldn't find a match to it.
If this is a quote, then I'd like a link to the original, as it sounds... well, amusing TBH.
Otherwise, 10/10, would smirk again.

Read the whole of the Going Daily Postal thread for the context, but basically our least favourite vulpine had a hissy fit, was jeffed to the garage, repeatedly tried to restart the flamewar in the original thread (in other news today) and was eventually banned.
Fun times

@jaloopa Ah, I should have known. Yeah, Bra Fox was his own - and his causes' - worst enemy that way.
I have to disagree with him about the Daily Mail, though. From what I hear, Not-So-Breitbart's journalistic integrity beats them hollow - though I'd say that neither of them are up to the standards of, say, the Weekly World News.
Of course, the same could be said of, well, almost any 'news outlet' these days, so it's a moot point. Personally, I stick to the AP video feed directly, and even that needs to be considered with a critical eye. Anything with even a hint of editorial opinion needs to be discarded - not that it can be avoided entirely, but I prefer to limit it as much as possible.
That, and I skip anything to do with politics. I just don't want to be bothered with it.

Yeah, probably. I'm aware of at least three other people with my name--or at least, the emails I receive after they get their own addresses wrong come from local venues in three different states! And my name is far less common than this guy's.

Not sure what cats you know, but I've never met a single one who didn't like to be snuggled. Even the ones their own owners warned me were mean. They're not mean to me. (Dogs, on the other hand, seem to instinctively hate me. Maybe I smell like a cat or something?)
