Edit: Does every eBay competitor say "hmm, people are leaving eBay over high fees...I know, I'll make mine even higher!" or what? This is the "no real choice" scenario all over. Dozens of "different" marketplaces with the same stupid and onerous problems. Why even bother?
eBay is secretly financing these "competitors" so they look better.

@dcon Every
bankcredit union I've ever had an account with has functioned on a monthly basis. I went so far as to verify it with a SQL calculation to figure out how much interest I had to pay on internal loans for my side business.

status When I'm glad I live in CA...
For our company, you're supposed to use all vacation by EOY. With manager approval, you can carry over 40h but those must be used in Q1. But CA allows carrying over 1.75x your annual accrual. So, since I get 3weeks, that means I can carry 210hrs. We just stop accruing when that max is hit. (Minor panic aborted after HR slacked a message pertaining to the rest of the country with a ittybitty link for CA and a couple other states)

Hopefully you two are getting higher interest rates
Cheap accounts mean no interest. Before I converted, the premium acct was paying a whole 1 or 2 pennies on month on a couple thousand dollars.
Here in germany, you are lucky when YOU do not need to pay several bucks to your bank for having money on your account ("negative interest" has become a reality!)
Yeah, that's a desperate and stupid idea that only shifts where the problem stays.
Not really. Currently banks are subjected to negative interests if their funds (don't remember which exactly) are too high. But only people with checking or saving accounts over 50,000€ (IIRC) are subjected to that.
If you put that money into some kind of long-term contract or stocks, then it's not a problem.
Probably also related to those 1,000€ short-term credit contracts with -1% interest I see sometimes.

I finally got tired of FreeCAD. Making a grid of shapes was so hard that I just got fed up and decided to change. So I asked my coworker for recommendations, considering my needs and price range. He tells me I should try Fusion 360. I don't feel like jumping through hoops once a year, but if they have a cheap enough Basic Tier or something, I might go for it. So I decided to check it out.
Nope. No tiers. A flat price. But then I spot something odd in the list of features; 999 schematic sheets. Huh. And the free version has 2 layers and limited board area. This seems familiar. I've been using
CadsoftAutocad Eagle for a few years now already. Even bought the Standard version subscription. But it's now rolled into the same package, with no way to buy separate? Then what am I paying the yearly subscription for, exactly?I login to the Autodesk portal and look through to my subscriptions. "Fusion 360 - Included - Download Now".
ASDFGH
You mean I'm already paying for a Fusion 360 CAD package? Well, f**k. I better use it then, too.
I really have to start reading the notifications I get from companies I have a subscription with. They kept the same price, for every customer that already had a subscription to one of their products. So I'm actually getting the package at something of a discount.

Computer status: possibly haunted
I once worked with a tester who had a computer we thought was haunted. She would find the most obscure bugs. Multi monitior bugs with a single screen. Once in a blue moon race condition that was only reported in the wild. She eventually got a new pc and we put her pc into the test pc rack. No more nonsense from that pc however she still found the oddest bugs. We concluded she was haunted. One of the best testers I ever worked with.

@sloosecannon No, but its bizarre syntax does. Being able to run C# is its only saving grace over BAT files.

Named params, control flow, loops and functions are pretty good as compared to BAT. I'm happy to not have to check ERRORLEVEL or look up how the
%%f
to do a loop.
-
That's true, but "better than BAT" is a pretty low bar. Even bash qualifies.

I'd say it's better than bash too. You can do semi-serious programming in it without enduring lasting brain damage, which I can't quite say about either of the other two...

Status Update: This GeForce Now thing is much better than expected. I have no idea how they do it, but I barely notice the difference in latency between streaming via GFN and playing on the PS4 - it almost seems like the streaming latency is pretty close to the controller latency I have anyway, which would be quite impressive.
Now that the long queues are gone, the only problem I experienced was that there's a certain unskippable story mission that's pretty much impossible to play with a controller. Tried for 2 hours, then temporarily switched to keyboard+mouse and succeeded immediately. Someone definitely screwed up the balancing there.
-
@dfdub The wife's switched from playing CP2077 locally to GeForce Now (mostly for the improved graphics) and from what I've seen it's pretty damn performant. There were a few minor lock-ups here and there, but otherwise it seems very playable.

@topspin I think it's actually Kiki Stockhammer, a spokesperson of NewTek, the company Play Inc sprung from. But, yeah, I thought that picture on the box looked alot like Gillian Anderson too (big X-Files fan at the time).

@Zenith Something else crazy but not technically lost because I knew where it was. I dug out the box to my Zenith DVD player. Apparently, if you took advantage of the offer inside, you got 10 free DVD rentals from NetFlix (yes, capital F). They've been around for longer than I thought because I received it along with Gladiator for Christmas back in 2000. Can you imagine, going to a website to have DVDs mailed to you, because streaming and smartphones weren't around yet?

The world's changed quite a bit since I worked in the VHS rental part of a gas station.
