@hardwaregeek Well, first try didn't quite fit. Guess I'll have to up the tolerances a bit. Though I might also have used the wrong pitch.

@rhywden Yeah, that's not quite as rigorous a standard as ±0.0014" or ±0.0019 (depending on thread class).
Take two went better. I just had to skim off 0.1 mm which I should have expected because that's the tolerance I got from earlier calibration tests.
Next up: Testing a print for both screw and nut.

Trying to copy certain files out of a Volume Shadow Copy is giving me an Access denied, even in Backup mode, which AIUI should be impossible. ACLs on the file both on the original volume and on the shadow copy allow access. Trying to open one of the files with Notepad gives me "Make sure a disk is in the drive you specified."
This is sure a new one on me.

@heterodox Did you try turning it off then on again?

Status: Fucking Python fucking stacked fucking decorators fuck.
A method I was writing a docstring for had two decorators attached to it (to mark it as an abstract read-only class property) but these two pieces of attached code between them (and no, I don't know why) decided that what they really wanted to do was to use the documentation of one of themselves as the documentation of the method. And trying to change anything with the decorator stacking or definitions just made the whole lot collapse into a big pile of non-working. :( Ended up having to force it all by direct assignment to the method's own
__doc__
field, and that's just dirty. I hate Python so much at times; it makes stuff seem simple to lull you into a false sense of security, and then it springs weird traps on you that make no sense at all and force you into doing the ugliest things just to work around them.

Initial model training should take only an hour, or you're doing it wrong....
-
@tsaukpaetra
You've obviously never had to retrain after having spent in excess of 500 days with the previous model :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:

@magus
Not sure where you're getting brown from, I think you might need an ocular enhancement device of your own...

@izzion I have the forum on some slightly bluish dark theme. It's probably the contrast.

Just realized I can't go to the one convention I go to and look forward to every year; it's at the exact same time we're transitioning between hosting providers at work. Good thing I hadn't gotten hotel or plane tickets yet. Wonder if work will buy the $300 ticket off me. :/

Status: Just used Task Manager to kill an unresponsive Task Manager. I have a feeling it's going to be one of those days.
Edit: It's taken all of a minute to confirm that suspicion. Jesus. Powershell refused to launch, every task manager window ended up unresponsive when I tried to close it. Eventually I just rebooted it, at which point it told me that some window was preventing shutdown, and then froze on that screen preventing me from clicking shut down anyway, and then made several 'boop' noises and the screen went black and it didn't shut down.

Status: Apparently it's a bad idea to await and watch a dispatchtimer in the same thread. Or something.
So, because I'm too dumb to figure out what's actually going on, I'm implementing the awaited check thing as a loop on a Threading.Sleep() old-school timer that waits until the Now is past the apparent tick.
Ugh...

Spoil-sport. 600 kW is the peak power (5 mJ in an 8-ns pulse). At 10 Hz, the average power is 50 mW.

status Well, that cost a little more than anticipated... One Synology DS218+ and 2 4TB disks on their way here! It's about time I update my NAS solution. The existing one is getting old (my Home Server - win2003 server based) and the even older Maxtor Shared Storage).

@gąska The really fun part is when the metal plug on the end comes out of the cheap rubber housing, leaving all of the little tiny pins just sticking out the end of the cable. I've threaded the pins back into the correct holes in the cable end a couple of times. It's not easy, but it's possible...

status Officially PISSED
Quicken, you are officially a complete piece of shit. Evidently, I just hit end-of-life for Quicken2015. I can no longer download data from my bank (ok, I knew that was coming - but I thought it was still a ways off). To top it off, I can't even import data that I download from the bank's website! (This I did not expect) Of course, I can pay them a ransom and upgrade... Fuck them.
It's time to stop procrastinating and convert to a different program. This should be fun - I have data going back to 1991...
Finally had time to evaluate other options. Came down to 4:
GNUCash (free): Yuck.
HomeBank (free): Yuck.
Moneyspire: To get the online transaction download, costs just as much as Quicken.
Moneydance: This was a close one. In general I liked it, but I had problems getting it to talk to all my banks.Final decision: Fuck it, pay Quicken. The final cost difference ends up not that large. The time savings for not converting, priceless.

Turns out that If I print both screw and nut then I don't need to futz around with the tolerances. At least for a standard M10 screw.
This will make several ideas I have so much easier.
