I smell a WDTWF-worthy situation.

@Zerosquare Maybe. I don't have any idea what the situation is, though.

Duh. How would Google scan the contents
for monetizationto deliver you a better servicefor security?I just wanted to send something to myself because I thought it would be (and it should've been) more convenient than getting my USB stick or connecting my phone. Was there some big epidemic of Gmail users sending themselves viruses?

@hungrier They should have this

I don't think they anticipated that use case. Most people don't send executables by email, much less to themselves.

But how would you know it was an executable if it was encrypted?
-
Trivially. If it's encrypted, it means you've got something to hide, which means you're obviously a bad guy who's not to be trusted.

I'm so bad the virus scanners just give up now, even for non-encrypted attachments.
(this is from a message I just sent)

Say it with me everyone:
If you've nothing to hide you've nothing to fear.

I just found this weird thing. It seems to be a toolkit to write web apps in C++ as if you were writing a standard (Qt, Windows) app.
For such a seemingly niche product, it seems very well polished. Is there actually demand for such a thing?
Edit: if you replace /wt/ with /jwt/, you can see they have a Java version too, but they don't otherwise advertise it in any way.
-
It seems like every time I write spec tests, I find bugs that no one has reported.
-
Stop writing spec tests! You're causing bugs!

@anonymous234 said in The Official Status Thread:

Yes. It's the sort of thing that is popular with people who want to take their skills at making desktop applications and use them pretty much directly to make web applications (often SPAs) so as to gain access to the ability to deploy on users computers without explicit installation. It's a clunky way of working, but when the application area is a bit niche in the first place there's not really a lot of money for hiring an extra, specialist front-end developer.

Maybe. Takes forever to get more than a sample. Probably why sessions are six hours TBH...

Status an hour or so ago: Have a PS4 controller that is having slight drifting issues on the right analog stick. Got a kit for opening it and watching some guides for trying to fix it.
Status now: Have a PS4 controller that now is basically for parts, as it now only supports "up" and "down" on the right analog stick.
Glad I decided to buy a replacement controller before trying to fix this drifting issue.

Disappointed. Despite the URL, this is not a story about a parallel port.

Today I brought my npm package from 0% test coverage to 100% test coverage (and fixed a few bugs I hadn't known about in the process).

The trick is to buy a used controller from Gamestop that looks identical, then come back tomorrow to return the broken one. At worst, you get two controllers for the price of one.
I've uh... Heard.

Reminds me of when I tried to repair the L and R buttons on my DS Lite. Now neither button works properly, but the rest of the thing is fine. I ended up getting a DSi XL to replace it.

ASRock C236
On the not unreasonable chance that it just simply doesn't like the CPU (that's probably the only actually-required thing needed to be installed to at least POST), I'm going to order a Pentium G4560, which is listed explicitly on their compatibility list.
I don't know how having an unsupported CPU will cause the board to not even try to power on, but I need another CPU for this now-extra Micro-ATX board I'll need to figure out what to do with...
Edit: You know what? Fuck it. Let's get the Celeron C9300, which is listed as compatible with ALL BIOS revisions, and an actually-rated-at-2144MHz RAM stick to boot. Fuck it.

LED sounds encouraging, have you checked for an incorrect standoff shorting out underneath the board? Removing all memory and seeing if you can get a beep code for that is a good test too.
Edit: flat CMOS battery can do this too. I had a brand-new motherboard that refused to do anything. Put a fresh CR2032 in and it sprang to life, put the old battery back in and it did its dead impression again. I wouldn't have believed it until I saw it.

That in turn reminded me of when I tried to replace the case of my DS Lite. I was careful with all the buttons, screen ribbons, touch screen assembly etc. I had it still taken apart and mostly in the new shell, working perfectly, with just the step of reassembling it left. I put everything back together and... the power button just wobbles back and forth uselessly. When I put the thing back together, I had accidentally snapped the power switch stem, making the whole thing unable to turn on. :womp_wah:

@Cursorkeys The PC-Module in one of our SmartScreens exhibits a behaviour we first put down to a bad CMOS battery - namely, it would reset the boot order on a regular basis which of course led to a "bad boot device" screen because, just as fates would have it, the first device thus appearing in the list was only almost capable of booting.
I'd then enter the BIOS, put everything back to where it should be and it worked ... for some days until it reset again. However, after having a closer look (and receiving it back from our supplier with the sole message of "replaced CMOS battery" after which it promptly showed the same symptoms again), we discovered that everything else remained unchanged. Which is usually contraindicative of a flat CMOS battery. It's only settings related to the boot order which are reset - and it's really "reset", I can disable everything save for the one device it's supposed to boot from and, presto! next day it will be at default settings again.
