Status: Interested in the results of a mic test of the Arctis. For a friend.I'll try and test it out for a quick report (and possibly some sample audio) when I get home. I do know that the headset/transmitter box does have an inbuilt sidetone option for the mic, which is good if you like that.

Status: Discovered "Sort by" button. Reading QOOC thread.
Is the "X years later" a standard functionality or custom modification? Because it's broken in that mode. Also, sorting should be in URL, not save in user settings and carry over to all other topics.

@izzion
Did a couple tests with Windows 10's Voice Recorder. Voice through the mic is really clear.Mic pros/cons:
Pros:
Clear audio
Mic can be pushed back to rest almost completely inside the headset when not in use
Mic has a bright red LED on it to indicate that you've got it muted. LED is off when mute is not on. Mute button is on the rear of the left earpad (same side as the mic is on) and when mute is engaged, the mute button sticks out from the headset farther than when mute is off.
Headset supports sidetone from headset mic naturally, at least if you're using the transmitter box. Not sure if you set that and then use it away from the transmitter (via bluetooth or something) if the sidetone still works or not.Cons:
Mic "stick" is extremely flexible and, while it will stay where you put it, doesn't really FEEL like it will. It's got almost no meat to it whatsoever, and will move with very little provocation, so if you bump that side you may easily move the mic to an unwanted position. It's not far enough to actually get inside my mouth, but nearly reaches the edge of my lips, so if it gets pressed too far in may impede audio.If you're around in the next hour or two, I can demonstrate via Discord or Skype or something if you want to judge the clarity of the mic on its own.

Status: Pulled the trigger on a revamp of my personal web site. It's only the third time I've done major revisions in its long history. It was nice to add a bit of server-side scripting to make updating a bit easier and I enjoyed getting rid of the CSS workarounds for Netscape 4.

I've been playing Metroid Fusion for GBA on an emulator. Now, that's a game where you have to move around a lot, and aim in various directions really fast, and use the shoulder buttons. Playing on a keyboard was very awkward. So I got my trusty 49,90€ Xbox One Wireless Controller™ and started playing. The d-pad is awkwardly placed, but after a while I got used to it.
After many hours I remembered I had one of those 3€ Chinese USB SNES controller imitations. I switched to that and holy shit it's 10 times better!
The moral of the story: use the right controllers.

The right being the DualShock style, of course.

OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
IT FUCKING STOPPED WORKING. The VisualBoyAdvance-M emulator I posted about right now, the one I used flawlessly for hours, has suddenly stopped working. I rebooted Windows to install an update and now it just freezes after loading any game.I deleted the configuration files, and it still happens. Same .exe, default configuration, suddenly doesn't work.
Then I noticed a notification saying Windows Defender had found "Win32/Unwaders.A!ml" in that file. So that must be the cause right?
Except the "thread history" now says no malware has ever been detected or quarantined in this computer. Re-scanning the file finds nothing. It's as if it had never happened. Also https://www.virustotal.com/ says exactly zero antiviruses detect it, so it was just bullshit. I even re-downloaded it and checked the sha-1 hash to see if it had been corrupted (it hasn't).So I disabled it just in case and it still happened. Then tried to uninstall the update which took three eternities. BUT THE UPDATE I UNINSTALLED IS STILL LISTED AS INSTALLED. In fact the updates in the in the two interfaces don't match at all
What the fuck is wrong with this entire OS? I used to defend it but it's just going down the shitter now.

It’s like the hydra. For every windows update you uninstall, it’ll install 7 new ones,
3all of which are buggy.

I used to keep a list of updates I banned via WSUS because it did shitty things like break network cards with static IPs or break programs that wanted to create a minidump for themselves.

@topspin Not anymore, they patched that.

Finally, starting with version 1903, Windows 10 will be capable of removing updates automatically if your device can’t boot correctly after the installation. The new feature works automatically when none of the troubleshooting steps are able to fix the problem.
Also, after the update has been removed, you’ll receive a “We removed some recently installed updates to recover your device from a startup failure” notification, and the system will even block the problematic update from installing again automatically for the next 30 days, which should be enough time until the next patch releases with a fix for the issue.

Windows 10 1809 begs to differ.

Well, seems to be working. Trying to install the newest insider build causes it's removal. (It gets to about 7% installed. Reboots. And we're back where we started.)

Guy running the screen share had a computer issue and fell off the bridge. Started a new bridge from his backup machine and e-mailed everyone "I'm over here now". A few people jumped, but then the original organizer e-mailed back "uh, no, we're still on the original bridge here".Meanwhile, the chickens continued their headless relay race.

I've done pretty well by remapping the keyboard controls (Ctrl/Shift/Z/X if you have to hit the L and R buttons at the same time as the main ones, A/S/Z/X if not) but an actual controller is always nice. I have an adapter for my Genesis controllers I use sometimes because I like to hold those controllers with my fingers on the d-pad and buttons instead of my thumbs.

I do dpad to wasd, the other half of the controller too the numbers on the numpad, shoulder buttons on tab, capslock, lshift, numpad enter, numpad plus, numpad minus, start and select on space and altgr.

It's not likely to damage it, unless it's already damaged and the wheel gets unhooked from the holding assembly.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I'll try tomorrow

@Tsaukpaetra I tried to vacuum my keyboard when I cleaned the living room. I sucked off one key, but was easily findable in the bag at least. I think the WASD keys may be a bit more worn out than the other keys...
Edit: I think it was the D that I sucked off, but I'm not fully sure.
