It's cold enough that they closed the Federal government offices
Something something Trump.
Something something Kennedy, actually,
Am I missing something? How does that relate to closing offices due to bad weather?
but I enjoy blaming everything on the current administration as much as the next guy.
Carry on, then.
Trump Caused Local Cooling!
Well, it's a change from blaming him for global warming.
I think that's why the term "climate change" is preferred. It's not subject to that pesky falsifiability.

Only if there are people who think that the climate has never changed in 4.6 billion years. I have never met such a person.

Whatever causes you least cognitive dissonance when looking at the actual data and muttering “China”, I guess.

Also, TIL about Cochlear Synaptopathy, which is where some of nerves (typically those involved in mid-to-high volume responses) disconnect from the hair sensor cells in the inner ear, leading to a phenomenon known as hidden hearing loss. One of our PhD students wants to see if he can model the effects of this in his full computational model of the ascending auditory pathway…

@anonymous234 Yeah, if hilly terrain is a thing that counts against bicycles. I tend to forget that since around here a 6m overpass would be a large height difference.
I go up a steep hill almost every day. It only took a few weeks before it became fairly easy.

Most meeting environments would frown on it. Though I've heard people here report they'd take their knitting.
-
@PleegWat oh, right. Video conferencing.
...Although sudoku in browser should be indistinguishable from working hard.
-
@Gąska Ah, I missed that word.
You can get away with a lot during video conferencing, as long as you mostly keep looking in the general direction of the camera. So most book/phone stuff is out.
Course most of ours tend to only use screen sharing, and no camera.

@izzion Looks a lot like my forecast, assuming I've got my temperature conversions right (). Above-freezing temperatures that'll last long enough to melt some of the 79823759128379 feet of snow on the ground into slush and water, combined with rain, followed by a flash freeze.

Citation Needed. That value appears to extend several times beyond the orbit of Pluto, and I'd expect that to be easy to see unless you're on the opposite side of the world from me.

Haven't you noticed the giant wall of ice separating the North (Canada) from where you are?
Here's a screenshot from a recent documentary:

Near my home, if you're going to Tim and you drive past it, don't turn around, there is another one close.
Seriously, there's like there 5 Tim in about 6 km of road

Just played: Adventure (Atari 2600).
For a game with just 128 bytes of RAM, it's surprisingly good.

That would be really cool if filled with water and ice-gators.

Considering the bottom I'm going with: used to be a sewing machine, turned into a desk.
Or maybe the sewing machine is hidden inside.

Yep! Ten points to you!
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:

Correct! Nine points and a cookie!
It's really nifty because the cover unfolds and pulls up the machine into place via a pulley (it's all metal under that wood, and heavy!).

I suppose the movement the pedal encourages could cause some amount of warmth.... Two points.
