Status: Hitting myself to simulate a DOS attack.
Command:
vegeta.exe attack -targets targets.txt -duration=10m -rate 3/ms | vegeta report
Where targets.txt includes a ping URL on localhost (
GET http://localhost:8080/status
)Thus far, seems to be going well. Master Server isn't complaining/crashing, and is even giving vegeta a few freebies every now and then just to be nice:

Is this about right?
I have no idea how well it would handle a DDoS though...

Computer reassembled and working. Cable modem/router purchased and configured. I can't change admin username, but at least it has a very strong password. Just waiting for free self-installation kit to arrive tomorrow so the modem can be actually useful.

Isn't that usually just a modem and instructions on how to fit plug A into jack B?
-
@Tsaukpaetra In this case, it doesn't include a modem, because I opted to provide my own rather than pay $11/month for whatever piece of Comcast supplies. IIRC, it includes a piece of coax, an Ethernet cable, and some instructions. I already have an Ethernet cable and the instructions; I could have picked up coax when I was at Fry's this evening, but free is free.

So in other words, you should be able to have the modem hooked up already and just waiting for sync and authorization from Comcast?

I agree with Blakey. Asshole was rude. If there's no expectation of getting an INSTANT reply (as in Instant Message), then send a fucking email.
"Do not Disturb" is dumb as fuck, because it isn't granular enough.
Trying to control notifications individually is dumber as fucker. Have you ever tried to control notifications on Android. Is it system sounds, or app sounds, or notification sounds, or a setting inside the app, or something you have to go into the individual person to mute? Can you set a time period? Probably not. And does all of the above apply to notifications, or only lock screen notifications, or some other type of notification that Android just made up.
And even if you figure all that out, it'll only be for one specific version of Android.
And even if you have that specific version of Android, then it'll probably only be for a specific launcher.
And even if you figure out for your specific version of Android with your specific launcher, then either Android or the launcher or the app will update and reset all of that.
The easiest solution is-- have some fucking tact and don't send people messages that you fucking KNOW make noise at inappropriate times.
PS: Sorry to hear about your aunt. =(

"Do not Disturb" is dumb as fuck, because it isn't granular enough.Ok to close the loop on that story:
- He apologized to me before I could apologize to him, so apparently even he realized it was rude
- He then showed me "Do Not Disturb" has a mode where it lets VOICE calls through but blocks everything else, which none of you motherfuckers even mentioned, and that's probably the best fit to my needs.

I thought that was merely an oddly specific example. You did say it was an example, so why would I believe (and react to it) like it was truth?

Presumably because sysadmin position does not specify certain stringent github commit requirements... yet. They should dump their AD logs there or something.

Probably not, because product IDs are auto-generated and don't necessarily match the import file...

The first option, at least as far as @pie_flavor seemed to explain it. It's a reusable box you purchased (one time) to fill up with food. Reusable indicates you don't need to purchase it again to use it to carry more food.

Nonono. I bought the to-go box for $20. It's mine permanently.
Hell, I didn't even seriously pay for it. I used meal plan credit for that.
-
@pie_flavor So you're getting as much food you want at no cost as long as you use the box?

@pie_flavor
In reality, an AYCE dining hall wastes a lot of food over the course of a day, from having to rotate food to keep it fresh and just raw over-made food at the end of the service period. I think they probably see the To Go boxes as taking food out of that waste bin, and not likely to significantly increase the amount of food they're making for each meal service. And, once the novelty wears off, I think they'll be pretty correct with that assessment; most college students are pretty lazy and won't be taking tons of food to distribute to people who wouldn't have been eating in the dining hall to begin with.
Also, INB4 there's fine print that says if they catch you redistributing To Go food to other people, your box privileges are revoked.

Yeah. DevOps wasn't supposed to mean that, it was supposed to mean applying operations techniques to development and comanaging the two sides of the coin.

You can explain how every good idea in this industry went by explaining its goals and reasoning and then appending "and then management happened". It's like "and then the murders happened" for IT
