If I ever start interviewing, open space will be a good reason to say "thank you, let's not waste our time" as I walk in for an interview.
I worked for this client previously. They moved to a different building while I was working for another client. When I walked in and saw the open space, I almost turned around and walked out. If I didn't need the paycheck, I would have.

@tsaukpaetra Given how little of your last payment went to interest ($15.93), it looks to me as if you are getting close to paying the whole thing off. Plus, your last bill said you've satisfied (paid off) $15k of the $16.5k of the principal. I think you need to call someone at the bank that loaned you the money to clear up the confusion.
It's a loan servicer, and I've dispatched an email, indeed.

You better check your bill, someone swindled you into a promotion that will quadruple it in six months.

I know the promotion, and it's me paying half price for getting the fiber connection installed by locking myself into at least 500/500 for 2 years. Still works out a lot cheaper (β¬500 or so) than if I'd pay full price for installation and have a slower/cheaper connection. So, yeah, now I can disconnect my monkeypatched broken phoneline and throw that one away and never look back.

@Cursorkeys I have the option of going up to 1G/1G, but I think I'm gonna wait until the install fee has been paid off, then I can consider it. I have also noticed that 10G fiber has started appearing as an option for home users in some places (Stockholm at least). And it looks surprisingly inexpensive at β¬50/month.
@ben_lubar During my 6 months of DSL I had slower internet than my parents, which was very sad. Speeds between 13Mbit/1.5Mbit and 0.8Mbit/0.1Mbit, sorta stabilized at 8/1 compared to their 10/10 fiber.

-
@tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

It occurs to me that I want a ring buffer that acts like a Monopoly game board, but which you can't add more "pending" data that would "lap" a player.
I don't think this is a common task, it seems most implementations assume a single consumer...
-
Status I find myself completely without motivation today. To do anything. Everything's boring. No motivation to write setting materials, play games, write school stuff, watch anything, talk to anyone (if that involves actually going anywhere anyway), go outside...
And most of all no motivation to actually care that I have no motivation. It's just...grey.
Meh.

Ok, so I foolishly took some pleb's sample code from MSDN forums from four years ago.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't do what I want, so yay...

Not sure, apparently.
My code (for anyone else who's bored enough to point out why I'm wrong:
public void syncTail() { //Advance the tail to the last token int lastPosition = m_Head + Length; foreach(int position in Tokens.Values) //Each token represents where a given consumer is on the snake. Presumably they're between the tail and the head, working their way up to the head { if(position > -1) { int NormalizedPosition = lastPosition >= m_Head ? lastPosition : lastPosition + Length; lastPosition = lastPosition < NormalizedPosition ? lastPosition : NormalizedPosition; } } m_Tail = mod(lastPosition); } private int mod(int x) // ensures a positive mod. { return (x % Length + Length) % Length; } private bool isOOB(int x) { int normalized_Tail = m_Head < m_Tail ? m_Tail - Length : m_Tail; int normalized_x = (normalized_Tail < 0 && x > m_Head) ? x - Length : x; return (x > m_Head && normalized_x >= normalized_Tail) ; }
Essentially, on each
Add
I callsyncTail()
to make sure the tail is as close to the head as the last straggler is, then check to make sure that the head doesn't overpass the tail.To see if a token has data (i.e. it hasn't caught up to the head), I call
isOOB
with the next position it wants to read.These functions are... kinda working. But also not, especially at the array boundary, which caused an infinite write loop that ate 200Mb of file before I killed it...

Edit: no that's wrong.
(pos < start) xor (pos < end) xor (end < start)

I 99.99% guarantee you it also has file syncing as a feature. Office 365 does. Google Apps does. The only one that doesn't is possibly Lotus Notes.
I thought you were talking about email clients, not a RDBMS and IDE

just spent two and a half hours convincing people that adding 1 extra column to a primary key will let my html generator do nested divs (for row / column layout).
Important fields currently are: Table ID, Field ID. There's already columns called "Sort Order" and "Field Type". They are currently ONLY used to generate
<input>
or<textarea>
type HTML fields. Basically "Edit or present these fields on a form in this order".Field ID, technically, can be 0. But only one instance per table, because that's the PK.
I just wanted PK (Table ID, Field ID, Sort Order).
That way I can do
Table 1, Field 0, Sort Order 0, Type="Open Div"
Table 1, Field 1, Sort Order 1, Type="Input"
Table 1, Field 2, Sort Order 2, Type="Input"
Table 1, Field 3, Sort Order 3, Type="Input"
Table 1, Field 0, Sort Order 4, Type="Close Div"
Table 1, Field 0, Sort Order 5, Type="Open Div"
Table 1, Field 4, Sort Order 6, Type="Input"
...That's it. That's all I needed. So I can created a nested div layout so the front-end developer can properly position & style things. (There's a CssClass field in there, too).
Two and a half hours.
"Why don't you just use a Field number of over 1,000,000 to indicate an open div, and a field number of over 2,000,000 to indicate a close div?"
Putting aside the magic numbers, the Field is part of a validated foreign key. There is no field number 1,000,000 so it doesn't work. (Field 0 works in this context, it's a virtual field).
"How about we add a new FormType (which is part of the PK, long story) for Layout Field?"
Because then how do I match up the records with LayoutField with other FormTypes?
"How about we just add some dummy fields to the table for open and close divs, so you can reference them?"
End result? Adding Sort Order to PK, and creating the new Types I wanted.
