Splitting my time equally between a silly, overengineered system to anonymise data in a test database, and attempting to fill out my end of year review form. What is my progress towards Living the Company Values?Finding way to properly anonymize data can be a pain if you've not planned the anonymizing script while creating the tables.
What's more embarrassing that, when you take your anonymized data for demo, and found that in a report or two, the name of current user does not match the report being printed, just because someone decided reusing staff number is a good idea?

Status: Fuck. God fucking dammit. Installer showed up but my grandfather sent him away because he didn't want the guy to loose lay the cable across the driveway until it was buried later. Got home expecting faster internet, instead had to renegotiate and reschedule everything.

Because the point of EF is making a model to match the database? If you want it not in the database, it probably doesn't belong in the same class.

What? Do you mean it's not possible now to modify the TT file to add "partial" before the class keyword, then add a partial class with the same name of your entity in different folder?

As someone with training in electrical installations and safety I agree. However, the wiring in the house overall is both old and with ugly monkey patches that wouldn't be allowed under current law and is one of the higher priority targets for total replacement to modern wiring and sockets, therefore calling in an electrician to just fix that one socket feels like a bit of overkill.

I wouldn't even know where to begin.
There ought to be a file with extension .tt in your project in the same folder with the .edmx file, that EF designer use it as template to generate the entity classes. By adding "partial" keyword there, you enable them to be used as partial classes so you can extend them with custom properties and methods that you use to manipulate/interpret data on the entity class..

Status: Just been in a seminar here on the use of bayesian statistics to reduce the amount of parameters required for machine learning. Can't quite see exactly how to make use of it, but I think its going to involve something like considering the balance between the cost of models themselves and the cost of the errors in the outputs of those models. Slightly brain-bending but I can see where the equations are coming from on the physics and information-theory sidesβ¦
Also, the keybindings are broken here. Hooray.

I'm way more effective at designing the database and then asking EF to grab the data from it.

@tsaukpaetra Right, but I still found the least hair-pulling-maddening way to do that was to use a code-first model (auto-generated from DB; IIRC Visual Studio has that tool)

It seems to have a weird bias against doing that though. Like, you can take the initial model from the database, but once you switch to code first a lot of crap goes and says "hey if you touch me things will break! Stay away!" especially if the model doesn't match 100 percent to the database. May have gotten better in recent years, but I don't have time to switch my workflow.
I was also not a huge fan of the drop-and-recreate default mode of code-first migrations, and the basically nonexistent (when I looked) support for stored procedures and views in code -first.
