I don't have any big problems with Edge on desktop, though.
If you have a form POST to
target="_blank"
, Edge will invisibly turn the POST into a GET, breaking everything and also possibly leaking private info over your URL.That is a ginormous bug, and to my knowledge Microsoft hasn't even started thinking about fixing it.
A co-worker found that bug about a month ago and I believe my reaction was "holy FUCK!"

Can anyone tell me what benefit this is giving?
The groundlings get nervous if at the end of File New Project they're handed a blank Visual Studio screen with no clearly visible place to start building. This is that clearly visible place.
Well I deleted that file (and two others that were doing the exact same thing) and it seems to compile and run again. Whatever.

@tsaukpaetra Yep, someone didn't pick up their Duplos when they were done playing with them -- probably had a defaulted

-
@magus Nothing's more permanent than a temporary solution.
-
@pleegwat Trust me, I know. This company has software from before I was born full of code comments about things being temporary. But we basically have a week, so I just have to do my best to make it painless in the future. We're going to be yelled into the ground for even doing what I'm doing, but there's no way anyone will give us the information we really need in time.

Also, I have this odd feeling that @RaceProUK is going to reappear three posts from now for a GET for some reason. If this @mention triggers that event, that is fine with me.

For some reason it doesn't properly store the datetime of the alert event for this, and so the order is somewhat random. Rest assured, there are 500 messages there.

Status: I think my 3D printer is finally ready. After I used up the included first five meters of PLA doing the test runs I ordered some new PLA from a reliable vendor. Which arrived two days later, thus the first part of the delay.
When I exchanged the old filament against the new, I discovered that for some reason my direct feed extruder (basically just a wheel bearing against which the filament is pressed by a toothed wheel which in turn is rotated by a stepper) didn't correctly grip the filament anymore, leading to unsightly holes in my prints. Seems that the toothed wheel was too soft or something.
Took a bit to find a proper replacement. Now everything is fine again.Next steps:
- Replace the direct feed with a Bowden feed which has two advantages:
a) Inserting new filament doesn't require a complete disassembly of the extruder feeder and
b) Replacing worn out wheels is easier as well. - Maybe adding a second extruder? The controller board of the printer has the required connectors. And then I could print stuff like water-soluble filament in tandem with standard filament.

Well,
.ts
is technically an extension for "Transport Stream" format files, so it's not entirely wrong...

Oh goody it's done counting all the files and is deleting (er, making ZFS mark the files as deleted) them at a rate of 20 fps on average. This might take all week...

@tsaukpaetra I am highly unsure if we even have anything for sending and receiving faxes here. Fax technology is pretty much considered obsolete, so I think most businesses have scrapped them. Looking at the company website there's no fax number listed either. So, hm. If we got one it's probably hidden in the admin's office or something.

By way of context:
For those of you unfamiliar with Photoshop or similar programs, that tiny image in the right column is the navigator pane, which shows the whole picture and your place in it. That teeny red rectangle in the tiny image marks what we're looking at; that is to say, which portion of the whole image the big central view is showing. At 100% on a 2560 x 1440 monitor.
That is rather a lot of stars.
And for those of you thinking I'm cheating by using the densest part of the image, here's what the least dense areas uniformly look like:

STATUS: Feeling slightly dizzy from running around all morning. Work->bank->work->bank->lunch->work. Also, not dressed up for Mandatory Fun Day again, half due to bank visits and half due to having no time putting a halloween costume together. Thought it may be a good idea to not be all spooked up when I need to go apply for a loan. :P Now more waiting time as they process my application, should have final verdict wednesday at the latest (scheduled meeting to set up the loan and related, if the house is approved). My body has this week not been ok with the stress of house purchasing and my sleep has been hurting, which is taking out its toll on me. I will not be staying around for the extended MFD activities and instead aim to go home as early as I can.
At least the other bank has this far been more helpful with the loan application process. After verifying my income I was given the promise directly. Which also led to a fun conversation as I applied for the loan directly after and I got asked the usual scripted questions including "Has there been any changes to your financial situation since you were issued the loan promise, uh, yesterday?" (Well, I'm down ā¬2 from purchasing a drink on the way to the bus...) The continued waiting will probably keep hurting my sleep. At least it's now weekend so I can stay in bed as long as I want, including next week being very light on work and only half length.
Also, after doing some research, I think Unity is my best choice if I want to try my hands at more game development. It's cross-platform and I have used it in a professional setting before. Just need to get into it fully again. Although I'll probably make a utility app beforehand to get back into app development too. And I need to sort my website, where I'm debating if to use a simple webdev tool like Brackets or a normal text editor, or take advantage of the fact that work gives me access to Dreamweaver. Decisions, decisions... Also, I need to buy a couple new SSDs for my main PC I think. One is getting too small and another is having a few too many errors logged for my comfort (even if SMART says it's still ok).

They work for Microsoft, so they didn't Google it, they used Bing.
This explains why they didn't find the extension was already used

Apropos of this--how does one check an SSD for errors (assuming Windows 10)? Is there a good way that also works for spinny disks? I'm getting concerned by my drives in my desktop, they're approaching 2 years old for the SSD and 4 for the spinny.

For SSDs pay attention to write speed. If it's worse than a cheapo flash drive or stalls often, it's going out the door. There are probably better utilities to check this.
For HDDs, I do a manual surface test (IIRC the program I usually use is called hddscan?) and make sure that the read rate is a nice smooth curve. Failing disks will have access that suddenly take many times past normal to read. In theory this can be (destructively) fixed, but usually such methods just end up getting the affected sectors reallocated.

TIL refugees from Kosovo are crafty backstabbing snakes who are only here to abuse Serbian hospitality.
According to my entire family's collective rant.
-
@benjamin-hall At this point, I think you're more likely to need to replace an SSD due to size issues vs wearing them out.

nine-gigapixel image
I vaguely recall reading an article in a photography magazine back in the era when state-of-the-art digital cameras were still <10 megapixels. The article talked about somebody who had mounted an old aerial photoreconnaissance camera in the back of a large van and was driving around taking hi-res photos. Not very many, though, because the film it used was something like 2x3 ā feet, that is ā with resolution well into the gigapixel range.

Probably every possible combination of 1, 2, or 3 letters has been used as an extension for some file type by somebody somewhere, making any short file extension conflict with something already existing. Maybe something obscure, but something.
-
Status: We have things that register themselves with another thing. They need to be able to send out emails when certain things happen, but while the email events are the same, the contents are different. So clearly the correct thing to do is create an interface, and let each thing implement it. But everything here seems to be serialized, and this interface's implementations have no need for serializable things: while they could have them, mostly they just need to assemble some data for the environment they're deployed to and send it. So all we really need is the type.
And I have no idea what will happen as a result.

Back when Apple had Creator Codes, they kept a registry.
