Did you rename it em9_DO_NOT_TOUCH ? ;)
No, but it is probably not necessary. I seem to be the only one who doesn't understand "If it isn't broke, don't fix it". ;)

@timebandit I have often been told that I could break an anvil. In my prior construction career I had a company mechanic suggest that I should go work at the Caterpillar proving ground.

So you're a pre-war Bolo?

The crown jewel of the 2,600-acre proving ground property is the Machine Development Center. The MDC is a 150,000 square-foot indoor testing arena housing 3.4 acres of dirt beneath a 41-foot roof. All of that space above and around the machines allows Cat to fully simulate load and dump cycles. And below their tracks is up to 50 feet of dirt for excavation simulations.
Can it really be considered a simulation if you're actually doing it?

Is synthetic testing really testing?
-

They're not doing it in real-world conditions. For example, during lunch there's probably not a lot of racist commentary about immigrants... that could affect the functioning of the machinery.

Murphy's First Law of RDP Sessions: Any network change you feel safe enough to make remotely will irrevocably sever your RDP connection and require an on-site visit (or that secret back door through the firewall)

nonono. the workshjop is in the garage, for safety reasons that is excluded from the no pants zone.

"we gotta have something right now close to the ballpark" doesn't mean "we gotta have something right now close to the ballpark". it means "Give us the exact numbers because even though we say we won't hold you to them we're going to fucking holding you to them, with a branding iron if necessary."

No, but still the best poor language gives you.

That so sounds like me with software. I'm just fairly good at putting the pieces back together again afterwards. What's the software equivalent of crazy glue and duck tape?

When we arrived to the MDC, two prototype machines sat in front of a mound of dirt roughly 20 feet high and 50 yards long.
He's certainly doing his bit to keep the Metric System at bay. Are those numbers big or is the place the size of a dining table?

If it makes you feel any better, all the machinery is metric.
-
@polygeekery Just imagining the mental gymnastics the workers have to do all day gives me a warm glow.
-
@coldandtired well, the machinery is engineered in metric.
Even construction projects are done in metric that isn't metric. Jobsites are laid out in tenth and hundreths of a foot. Makes the math easier. ;)

So, I may have done that in my first development job, for an investment bank. In my defense, it was suggested by a DBA and was run during non trading hours for creating a reporting cube.

If you're glowing, that's usually not a good sign unless it's expected. I would probably clear a 4' radius around yourself when that happens, just in case...

status Version numbers. Better known as FUCK YOU VISUAL STUDIO.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 Version 14.0.25420.1. Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp. All rights reserved.
Hmm, that doesn't look right. Looks at VS about box.

@tsaukpaetra We do have very narrow content, since the UI is designed for what people 10 years ago thought smartphone UI should look like.
-
@dcon That looks like 5 or 6 levels of version number (depending on whether you consider the year in the product name to be a versioning identifier; it sort of is, but it also sort of isn't). I've never needed more than three levels in my own codeβ¦
-
@dkf One would think that the
devenv.exe
that displays the about dialog would show the same version as the samedevenv.exe
when run as a command line. (At first I thought our build machine didn't have Update 3 applied)
-
@dcon Thinking that version numbers within a product would be even vaguely self-consistent?

I guess that makes the house a definite pants-required zone.

@tsaukpaetra My father had the garage and me repairing old bicycles was the other half of the garage. I repaired some of my mates mopeds. I know how to use a set of spanners.
My grandfather had a wood turning lathe. It was fascinating watching him carve things on the lathe. He gave it in his will to my brother as my brother was better with dealing with metal and wood than I was.
I got lots of Casio watches that were the smart watches of their day. I dunno if I should sell them or keep them.

No idea. I'm just dicking around scoping out this provider.
Biggest thing I'm waiting on is the ability to boot Windows 10 VMs, which they apparently just forgot to set up some kind of flag or something.
But so much of this OnApp interface is just broken. It's.... Ugh....
