Anticipating the panic for the small amount of snow we're predicted to get.

Looking at the stacktrace shows me that the exception actually gets thrown in an event handler because something doesn't get initialized properly
I saw that happen in a Windows Mobile game. The main window would load a dialog with game options, in the onLoad handler. If you canceled out of the options dialog, the game would crash with a NullReferenceException when it tried to delete the dialog. :eyeroll:
To be fair, the developer wrote the game--a Civ clone--to learn C#, so didn't know that you shouldn't do things that way.

I showed my dad Natural Selection II. About 15 minutes into explaining (and demonstrating) the gameplay on a live server, my dad stopped me and said "wait, you mean this is a multiplayer game?"

EDF
I still don't know what it is.
Edit: oh, it's an xbox game. The only gaming consoles I have ever had are nintendo and handheld.

I tried to get my grandma to play Jet Set Willy back in, let's say 1986, when she was probably around 80. She succesfully exited The Bathroom and navigated to the Top Landing, where she was unable to jump over the first moving enemy in the game (the weird cyan utility knife thing), which thus presented an insurmountable barrier to any further exploration. Then I think she lost interest.

so..... nintento or..... nintendo?
the GameBoy series is by nintendo too.
and i continue to assert that the vita is crap (although the playstation it is "based on" is actually really nice)

it's possible he had a casemod dreamcast... i saw a few casemods of that back int the aughts that were technically handhelds.

What about the NeoGeo Pocket? I got one of them a few months ago:
Come on, like I was going to have any other game for it
The D-nub is digital not analogue, but it's nice and clicky, and is probably the best designed D-anything on any console ever, handheld or not. And it has the happiest system menu music In The World™

Damn, that is one ugly console. Was the shitty camo a standard skin or a special edition?

No idea. I just went for it because it's blue, and all my other consoles are black (PS3, Wii U, DS, PSP, Game Gear, Genesis w/ CD & 32X), silver (PS2, 360), white (Wii), or a mix of two of them (3DS, black/silver). My PC and laptop are also black, as is my Lumia 920 and Nexus 7 (2012).As for my old Game Boy Color, that's purple
-
3DS, black/silver
What was the thinking behind the 3DS being two colour (not even two tone, just completely different). It looks like someone's salvaged the top screen off a broken machine and stuck it on as a replacement

On an unrelated note:
purple for me, and my XL is pink.
because yes.

You sure? @ben_lubar, how old are you?

wait... there were actually games for that thing released in english?

Yeah. I had Echo the Dolphin and a couple Sonic games. Possible some others, but I don't recall.

Status: Probably going to be mostly AFK today. The other "programmer" totally belgium-ed his deadline and sent in an excuse email when he was called on it. Status Update: My prediction about that termination getting moved up was correct (assuming he actually shows up today). Now to get to work fixing this FUBAR.

Status: my access to this company's source control server has been broken all of yesterday and (so far) today, and so I'm a useless hulk here. I found out this morning that my water heater wasn't running (I flipped the breaker, if that doesn't fix it-- ugh!). Traffic was excrement.
Basically average.

I really didn't need that ...

You don't have an upcoming meeting with HR do you?
I found out this morning that my water heater wasn't running (I flipped the breaker, if that doesn't fix it-- ugh!).
Was the breaker tripped and you reset it? Or you just power-cycled it? Ours is getting weak, so this spring we are going to replace it with a tankless heater.
Traffic was excrement.
It was here also, due to 6" of snow overnight.
Updated status: Very thankful for: heated seats, 4WD, vehicle stability control, good tires and having a good friend who owns a Bobcat dealership who dropped off a T190 from the rental fleet for me to keep for the winter. It made clearing the drive very easy and warm...
-

No, but I imagined it is what your situation feels like.
-
Was the breaker tripped and you reset it?
How do you tell? I just flipped it off and back on.
Ours is getting weak, so this spring we are going to replace it with a tankless heater.
If I need to replace it, I'll probably go that route as well, but I'd have to have a tankless one professionally installed whereas I could install a tank one myself-- hm.
-

Close. Fortunately, I've been somewhat prepared for it. Think getting hit with an aluminum bat while wearing a cup.
-

A breaker will go to roughly the middle when it has tripped. If it was all the way one way or the other, it was still on and it is likely a thermostat or element issue.

Electric water heaters are pretty easy to diagnose for issues. There are very few parts and all can be tested with a basic multimeter, assuming the tank is not leaking, etc. If it is less than 10 years old, it should be a pretty easy repair. Just trace the electricity through the tank and wherever it stops, that is likely your issue.
If it is over 10 years old, the tank is likely to be done for pretty soon and then it is a judgement call as to whether it should be repaired or replaced.
We have to wait until spring for a new water heater because the exhaust will have to exit the house underground and through a basement wall, which will not be a fun hole to dig with frozen ground...
-

A tripped breaker is often in a "near-on" position. They don't usually trip all the way off, but they aren't really in the on position. This means you still need to flip the breaker off and back on to reset it, so most people don't even notice the difference.
-
I really didn't need that ...
sounds like that's what happened to you metaphorically...
-

Not any one in any house I've ever lived in. Usually the best you get is the spring releases and it's "easier" to slide it to the off position, but since I only touch the breakers once a year or so, I don't know how to judge what "easier" means.

Yeah it is.

Well, like I said above, I don't exactly spend a lot of quality time with my breaker box, so I can't tell the difference between "near-on" and "on". Either way, I cycled the thing.

No, they pop back some. How much depends upon the manufacturer, etc. But they do move some from the on position.

Edit: I cannot tell if that is a horrible picture, or a horribly photoshopped horrible picture. Either way, it illustrates the point.

I'd bet on horribly photoshopped horrible picture. The lighting angle is wrong on the tripped breaker switch.
-
Agreed. Let's try this one:

Looks like @blakeyrat is part of "most people".

No, they pop back some.
I've never seen that happen in any house where I've had to reset tripped breakers. I'm sure, in theory, they're supposed to move-- but the fact that even the guy trying to demonstrate that had to use Photoshop does not fill me with confidence.

No. Just no. Pick another one:

but the fact that even the guy trying to demonstrate that had to use Photoshop does not fill me with confidence.
I'd rather believe that he just didn't feel like tripping his breakers. Or he didn't know the circuitry in his house well enough to do so.
-
But you have the Bobcat now....
The core we will have to drill will have to come out between the air conditioning condenser and the foundation wall. No way to get anything but a shovel in there or I would have had him deliver a mini-excavator also. ;)
The Bobcat is for clearing the drive, and then when spring breaks I am going to use it to dig out for our new patio and auger out the holes for pergola posts, etc. It is good to have friends who equipment. :)
